It's time to change out the air filter in the F250, 7.3 PowerStroke Diesel. While we're at it, may as well do the filter upgrade mod and see if it makes any difference. The new filter certainly appears to have more surface area, so maybe it'll help. Join us and find out!

Thanks! Got a wet filter on mine and looking to go to a dry one like that. Reason: found out that wet filter dicided to let small small amount of dirt particles in, then found blowby coming from pcv valve and dirt patricles partying all around the inside of intake tubes. Thankyou for providing us with a part number for the filter. Moral of story: Don't have a wet filter on your 7.3.

I swapped to a K&N filter in my Peterbilt 386 with a DD60 12.7 (tuned by The Diesel Dr in Chicago). I gained .6mpg and pulled a mountain grade noticably better. My shop foreman was was sceptical until I showed him my fuel avg. He was so impressed he popped for every 386 we had (10, I think?). Last I heard, he had my bought them for the 389'sor 379's with dual external breathers, but was looking into it

I guess that stands to reason. If it's getting more air, efficiency would go up too.

nice choice, I've been debating what to get and for the price those are hard to beat, I will be ordering myself one of those. I have a k&n one an have heard a few stories of them dusting trucks so been looking to switch. Gotta love the sound of the intake tho after you change the filter out from the stock one tho sure can hear the difference. And egts go down as your getting more cooler air flow is what I figure as I noticed same when I did mine. Love the vid as always!

Thanks Wyatt, makes sense on the EGTs, I just didn't expect it to make such a difference. As far as the K&N goes, i think it all boils down to making sure they are oiled regularly. They rely on the sticky oil to help catch particulate. Knowing me, I would definitely forget to oil it and end up with a dusted engine, so I'm happy to stick with the good old tried and true Napa/WIX stuff.

Hey there I got a question for you 1998 E450 7.3 L the air filter was saturated with oil
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage 4 месяца назад
I'd check the PCV first. Other than that it could be blow-by.
@Littlebitz3211

So you have to cut metal piping for it to fit? I’m considering doing this and idk how hard it’s been be to find piping
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage Месяц назад
It just needs to be a piece of 4" OD (Outer Diamater) pipe a few inches long. Something like this would work too: amzn.to/3zv98ag

Very nice, Pretty easy to screw up a good thing eh. Now you have a hot air intake instead of the factory cold air intake hahaha.
@ProjectTimeGarage

Not sure how many good things actually got screwed up. No power gains, can't tell of any power losses, but my EGTs are WAY better. I'm still claiming a win.
@LemonySnicket-EUC
@LemonySnicket-EUC 3 месяца назад
There's plenty of fresh ambient air getting in there. I also fell for the "cold air intake performance mod" Those washable filters get dirty very quickly and then don't perform any better than stock.
@jmackoregon

@3:19 see the white airflow censor near the top right screw. what did you do with that in this scenario ?
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage Год назад
Oh, you mean the Air Intake Sensor. Yeah, that stays, just keep it plugged in and locate it near the new air filter. Basically, it just wants to know the temperature of the air that's coming into the system.

So how long do you change it out at 12,000 miles 20,000 mi 30,000 MI I also heard it should come with the cover I guess to make sure it doesn't get wet
@ProjectTimeGarage
@ProjectTimeGarage Год назад
About every 4 oil changes or so. Ends up roughly 20K miles in my environment. I think you can buy the "kits" that come with the cover, clamp, etc. In my case I just bought the industrial filter directly from my local NAPA. I've not experienced any moisture at all near the filter area, so I'm not concerned about it getting wet.
@supremekingjesus425

@@ProjectTimeGarage thank you . I wanna add one to my 6.7 Cummins. I was gonna go with a washable filter but I noticed that even if u clean them it will still show some dirt debris clogging up the hoses within time and plus you got to ask some spray oil for those filters to work right which is something I do not want.

Yeah I had one of those air filters but they get wet and then let your engine suck water up, definitely not a smart decision
