Upgrading the Gameboy macro into a Nintendo Swap

Today we are adding back features to the gameboy macro. weather you started with a broken ds lite or you just removed the top screen maybe you still want to play ds games that use both screens but you want to keep your macro as an open face device (i dont judge) today we solve that problem for you.

Is there a kit for replacing the DS screens with hi-res ones? I just got tired of seeing all the subpixels. They give me headaches.

@@sqlexp I actually love the subpixels on the gameboy advanve. I can‘t stand the high res ips screens. Thats why i always play gba games on my ds lite

The TV out seems pretty great. Play DS games on the big screen, use the touch screen as needed.

ive always been meh with the macro, and this mod kinda seems counter productive, but you have a good point around sentimental value. games id play like the ds zelda, animal crossing or even dragonball origins would use both screens simultaneously and need touch so i dunno. its niche but its also super cool at the same time!

I would never do it with a working, functional ds. But if the DS Slot Broke, or the screen broke, then it would be worth it. I certainly prefer having both screens though. Still a nice mod for broken ds's.

Oh I found it so tv out plus a custom shell that looks like the gba micro. I def want to add tv out but idk if I want to change the shell.

This will probably outlast all the hinged DS versions. The 2DS was a personal favorite for how weird it was.

This is an incredible mod! Too bad I went the BoxyPixel route when I made my Macro. Clipped the ribbon cable port to make room for speaker in the top left

if your not afraid of soldering you can still add the switch and solder some wires to the test pads for the connections you need the points are on the github page for the switch assembly. but i suppose you still would be missing the x and y buttons :P

Depends on which one you mean. The one with the macro bezel was from someone in Europe but idk if they still have it I actually bought it years ago. The normal size one I just stole off of a damaged top screen I had.

The sticker came with a glass screen lens. It’s been out of stock from the original supplier not sure where you can get one now. If by little board you mean the buttons to swap screens I got it of the eBay listing in the description haven’t seen if they still have them it’s been a while

Imagine a wireless top screen, you can have the top screen on a table and the bottom screen in your hands. Like that you can play select which screen you want to be, and if you have to, like you can play by alternate between bottom and top screen with the bottom screen only !

Unfortunately the creator of the board does not have any more but the link in the description goes to their GitHub project and you could get the files for the pcb and have a service make it for you then you would buy the components and solder them on your self

Would there be any way to set up screen switching without getting a switch? Ex: pressing a combination of buttons to switch screens

I don’t think so but I’m not an expert. I think it is using circuits that are on the top screen connector so it’s not really a software thing more of a “when this pin is 0v perform switch” but there are other buttons/switches that don’t mount on the rear of the board if you don’t have the space back there

What about a macro without the gba cartridge sticking out and yes I want it to be a ds lite macro and no I don't want to use a flash card

I don’t think it’s like conventionally possible since the cart slot is soldered to the motherboard you would need to somehow move it further in the case and while you could remove the ds card slot to get more space but then it would be a straight macro mod and you would not be able to play ds games anymore. Plus you would have to some how hold the slot in place and also connect it back to the motherboard pins remotely. It’s possible but at what cost.

What do you mean like the same mod but with a touchscreen it would be an identical video just instead of the screen lens it would be the touch screen it would not effect the mod at all I used the screen lens because all the spare touch sensors I have are really scratched up and cloudy

You don’t need to do this to play gba games it normally plays them I just added the switch in the back to be able to swap what screen is on the bottom because all my top screens were busted.

For most users, I feel like this isn't very practical with how inexpensive DS Lite's are now. You can get them for $40 or less, easily.

hi for anybody wanting to do this mod beware in the video he says its compatible with a digitizer he is worng it does not fit i wish he tested it so he knew instead of assuming because i bought a shell just because i thought the digitzer would fit and spend 2 hours trimming it so i want everybody to not suffer through that like me do not buy if you want to use the digitizer

Huh I guess I need to find a decent touch screen that’s one more thing I can add on to tv out and maybe figure out a nice shell for it that fits the digitizer
