In this video we have a 2nd attempt at upgrading the head unit in our Range Rover L405 2013. This is the larger 10.25 screen without the side switches.
Y'all are just amazingly helpful and fun to watch. I know the entire community is appreciative of all that you do. One request, open a location in the US please!!! Preferably close to Auburn AL :)
Thank you for all these helpful videos, I’ve used a load of them in just a few weeks of my l405 ownership. Wouldn’t it be easier to connect all the cables to the car and then connect the screen, saves holding it the whole time and scratching your piano trims :)
Nice mod chaps. However you should not use magnetic screwdrivers and as you mentioned ESD protection should be employed. Damage occurring now may only manifest itself in the future. Quality working practice with electronic equipment ensures reliability. Oh and you really need the fan.
Great video guys! I’m trying to understand how the phone pairing works, can you help? For example, the new H/U comes with a new mic and presumably your phone connects directly to the new android unit via Bluetooth instead of the factory Bluetooth. Does this mean that all calls etc are made using the new 3rd party mic and the original factory phone kit/mic is effective redundant? I assume that you can only pair your phone to one unit at a time (I.e the original LR Bluetooth or the new android unit). Can you confirm how this works please? You can see in my videos that I fitted a similar unit in my X5 a few years ago and the mic supplied with it was useless, nowhere near as good as the factory one. I’d hate to install one of these in the Range Rover then be stuck using a poor quality mic. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Also on a separate note, would you happen to know if one of the new style ‘frameless’ rear view mirrors works in the pre facelift? The connectors look exactly the same. TIA for your help!
Good video guys I have just fitted one to my Jaguar XJL had a few problems with it not working had to contact the factory they sent emailed me 3 software up dates got it working but still having a few issues still talking to the factory in China. Did you ever do a video on the using and operating of the unit?
I purchase one of these radios for my range rover sport 2014. But the funtion connector I received is different than the one you have on this video on mind it has only the female you plug where you plug the left side funtion button and the small white plug tha goes into the screen. Do you know how i can make this one work?
Hello! Excellent video, we also install these monitors! Tell me, do you have a 2013 car with a resistive touchscreen, you can’t see in the video whether the left touch buttons work normally on the new monitor or not?
Hi MRW sloution type already combine resistive and compacitance in one monitor which means you only need to set in factory when finished installation and also the side buttons , they made an switch cable for the side buttons function ( dvr , P radar , P assis , Music , Navi ) ntaudios.com/range-rover-vogue-l405-2012-2016-android-navigation-multimedia-system-head-unit-with-carplay-goolge-map-fit-for-bosch-system.html
hi Dan , the mic is for android BT calling and also in carplay mode, you need this to wake up siri , but if you never use the android BT to make calls , no need to connect this mic
@powefulukltd I purchased and installed my android 10.25 and feel like it’s a bit staticky when in auxiliary mode with RU-vid on. Would you happen to know what the issue could be? I grounded a black wire from the screen to the CD player.
Hi, what is the speaker that is connected to the unit used for? Is that where the navigation directions sound comes from? Will there be a video with a full review soon? Thanks and awesome step by step guide.
the extra small speaker is for the aftermarket navi sound ( google navi , igo, waze etc .) when you run the FM radios both time , Radio sound comes from oem speaker , navi sound come from small speaker
Hi, I just got a similar Android unit + 20118 style AC unit from China. Got the same wiring harness but I was wondering, Can you use a Fakra-splitter 1to2 for GPS antenna and connect it to the original car SatNav antenna? or do you have to use the new GPS antenna? has anyone tried it?
can you please help me on the customer service side i need those knobs without the clip just the push on billet units i would love to return the wrong ones in exchange for the correct push on knobs... plz respond god bless, -peter joseph
What about "voice command" button on steering wheel problem? When press it both voice assistants (oem and google voice) starts together, and it is very problematic talk only with one, beacouse the other hear and answer different things,,,,
hy i have the range rover sport L494 and i installd the new android screen but my old system dosn't work and now back camera you have a solution for this?
The question is, if it automatically switch on the rear camera view when you take rear gear, or first you have to switch to the original car view mode?
Hi Chaps, Love the look of this upgrade and I realise this question has been asked here before. But I was wondering if you'd made any progress with the L494 upgrade? Really interested in this for mine. I noticed you also mentioned doing a video showing how the system works at the end of your install video. Sounds very needy I know :) its just you seem to be the only UK based company working with this system?
@@meestert33 No I didn’t. I went ahead and purchased a system via Android Aftershock in the US just after posting the original question. Been really impressed with mine, but it isn’t without its niggles. But well worth the upgrade in my opinion.
@@LaurieBenjamin The ‘niggles’ I’ve seen are: can be slow to startup (although questionable if its actually slower than the original head unit). In the winter when its cold, the display will start as normal but the touch screen can take up to 5 minutes before it will work. I generally only use the CarPlay functions, and I’m seeing an issue of audio echo on telephone calls (the person calling can hear themselves back through their own phone). I’ve reached out to Android Aftershock and tried the Land Rover forum section that specifically talks about these units. Thus far, I’ve not had a reply or message from anyone. So for calls, I’m having to just use the speaker on my phone! Not ideal, but fortunately, I don’t take many calls whilst driving.
powerfulukltd That is good news as the audio choices for those dark years of the RR Sport L320 were simply none existent so trying to have Apple car play was out of the question .... So far hopefully the answer will come from China .
What about the genuine function like TV and rear entertainment screen? They are working? Anyone find a similar product what all function works? Thank you
Desmond A.B it does, you have to manually select them but it does. System actually works really great, and the guy Ray is a super nice guy. I picked mine up from him locally chatted for a while about rovers.
Hi Guys, great video, did you have to go direct to the supplier in china for the unit or did you order through ebay or Amazon as I can't find any on ebay for sale...
Hey Guys, loving the videos! I've just installed the screen upgrade on my RR L494 - everything seems to be working well. I'm just wondering if anyone has had an issue with the reversing camera? When I activate the camera, the parking sensors engage however the screen is blank. I'm assuming that the camera resolution is not compatible with the new screen? if so, does anyone know where to source a higher res reversing camera? Cheers
hi Jazz, android monitor with MRW solution can works with the camera solution well , original rear camera, original sound camera system and also aftermarket camera, you need set the correct menu in the Rear camera setting
Does any android head unit work on my jaguar f pace NLI? Do you know where I can buy screens like this? I can’t find then for my jaguar on your website please help

Quick question Could you fit in On a ranger over sport 2013 A New technology modern dashboard with double screens make it look more like a newer model ranger over sport from the inside Because I prefer the shape of the 2013 model Way better than the new shape they have given to the ranger overs now a days The idea is having that nice shine black car but updated that disgusting old dashboard with newer and better equipment

We are still playing with this unit and working with Merryway to make improvements... I will keep posting videos as we work through the features.... we have a few problems at the moment that Merryway are working to fix.
I'm sorry to post on this item but have a problem with the same system, I have had to factory reset the item so the language has changed back to Chinese, I can change it back to english but when the car goes off and back on then the car changes back to Chinese, does anyone know a fix for this, Thank you
Do you guys know if the original headunit will work again if reinstalled? Just thinking ahead for if I end up trading in the vehicle to a dealership at some stage. Cheers
@@L663 thanks the reply. Is this merryway unit a yay or nay at this stage? i understand from the comments there were some issues but can't find any video reviews of the system post installation
Guys I'm asking those who have a sensitive ears! -How dopes a sound quality? In my experience android units makes sound quality much worse. How exactly with those units? Also how about speed of the unit?
Hi Russell we are on it ! we have it fitted but a couple of problems 1 - holidays at the moment 2 - the amp on our project car is not connected - so need to fix this first !
you can take this from simon and also you can take this here ntaudios.com/range-rover-vogue-l405-2012-2016-android-navigation-multimedia-system-head-unit-with-carplay-goolge-map-fit-for-bosch-system.html
The problem is my crashed L494 has a problem with the sound system on the original car... i need to fix this then do the upgrade.... so much to do.... and Ian has left me now so i need to get a new helper...
@@L663 Ok thanks. I think I'm going to dip in. I have a client that lives in Shenzhen that's going to check them out for me (Merryway). I'm not really excited sending cash into the blue yonder. I live in South Africa so not even sure if they'll send it to me.
@@copperstoneserver6632 I'm also in ZA, and keen to get one of these, but no car audio shop seems to be able to source one for me. Did your import come through?
Hello, would you be able to come to me and fit this exact kit, I live in the uk. If you would be available to do so, can you please give me a price including all the kit etc. Thankyou P.s I have alot of freinds interested too so if you would like I can give you their details aswell if your interested
Hi - getting it fitted and set up is a good idea - that is why i dont sell them as self fit units.. I do know one guy that has been fitting these and has worked with the factory to get things sorted. What rough region are you in - the guy is based around Gloucester area.
I resently bought Disco 4 and the original touch screen is irritating. I really hope to find unit that integrates with car buttons and functions without significant delay. This looks promising..
