Dude this is something. The cable management may be overkill but that level of obsession with detail is becoming a lost art. Thank you for taking the time to share. Thumbs up.
Cut two holes in the wall to make a 12 inch cable run. Gotta love that commitment to detail! My lazy ass would just throw some spiral cable wrap around it and call it a day. Great looking setup!
I know here in Canada and the states we get what is called an old work box which is a frame with the wings but no pack panel. It's a bit easier to work with multiple cables as you don't have to worry about holes in the box or grommets to protect the cables from rubbing. You can also get a box that can let plastic conduits attach using fittings that snap in place if you want a conduit run between locations. Handy for the attic to basement chases providing you don't have to block across vertical struts for fire protection. In that case, you have to cut above or below the blocking drill a hole in the blocking run the conduit through the hole, and then place fire retardant foam around it on both sides of the blocking. Now the final exam. repeat your process for the other 300 rooms in the hotel and have it done in two days!
I am using the M1 Mac Mini and also have the exact same desk the Mickie from Ikea. My set up looks so cramped and squashed where as yours looks spacious. Great work.
Really enjoyed this video and loved how much of the process you shared. Bit of an odd one but I loved how you articulated yourself throughout which made it easy to watch and/or listen to as you were extremely descriptive regarding what you were doing and why. Thanks again
Doing a very similar set up here in Cambodia (M1 Mac Mini, Magic extended keyboard, and a 32” curved 4K screen). Wish I’d seen this video a few weeks ago... the hub is a brilliant addition. Will order that this week.
I was thinking the same exact thing!! Is this a video about the M1 Mac mini, or is it an old PBS "This Old House" show with Bob Vila??? (big thumbs down)
Shouldn’t have any issues if you enrol in Big Sur Beta program download that as well as SwitchResX and make sure you use a USB-C to display port either 4 or 8k cable. Easily gets 5120x1440 32:9 using SeitchResX Done this on my new M1 MacBook Pro with a G9 Odyssey. Works fine.
Mechanical keyboard will make your set up look more cool. But nevetheless, very nice set up. I have ny LG 34inch ultrawide screen and im planning to buy myself a mac mini M1 so thanks for the idea 😊
Where did you get the round mount that goes to the monitor itself? I just bout the CHG90 and don't seem to have that piece. Thx for the vid, clean setup!
This is the mount I used, hope it helps: Wall Bracket mount (Lindy) - www.lindy.co.uk/audio-video-c2/display-brackets-c195/led-lcd-tv-low-cost-adjustable-wall-mount-bracket-for-up-to-15kg-19-screens-black-p8926
Great video, just wanted to know how the monitor is going after all this time? anything you don't like? im thinking of buying one to use with MacBook Pro M1.. and will soon get a Mac mini M1. wondering what the screen is like. not sure if I go this big or just stick with a 34" Ultrawide. have you played any games on it? how is it for video editing? thanks! cheers!
Its still going really well. I have not had any issues with it at all, its reliable, no pixels have dropped out etc. I don't use it all day every day but I am happy with it.
Beautiful set up but I would be VERY worried on how you mounted your monitor to the wall. The grip-its are fine, but putting all that weight in one area can & will in time cause your wall to fail. You really should have used one of the larger rail mounts to spread the load. I pray it doesn't happen but as someone who regularly does this kind of thing, I feel like I should tell you. If your TV installers used a similar bracket with grip-its in your other room, I would be very concerned about that too. To use that type of mount correctly you would need to be attaching it to a concrete wall or directly on to a wall stud. Im sure you will say well it hasn't fallen off yet! And please God it doesn't, but I certainly would not be hanging any monitor directly on to plasterboard that weighs over 5KG. The mounts won't fail, the plasterboard will!
Thanks for the feedback - TV installers did use the rail mount. Following this comment I make sure to check regularly on any signs of fatigue or failure. No signs of movement at the moment!
I have the same setup with an M1 Mac Mini and CRG9. It’s a very wide monitor, but really pleasant to work with, especially having tuned the sharpness. You do need quite a deep desk. I have mine mounted on a swing away arm, but the weight is right on the limit. Need a decent cable to make DisplayPort work.
I did look at the swing arm but wasn't confident enough in the weight limits so opted for the wall mount - it also worked out slightly better for me due to the space. Thanks for watching.
Hi I have tried with both. Started with HDMI which worked fine but to get the higher refresh (144) rate I had to use USB-c to Display Port, which is what I still use.
@CMF unboxing I watched your video of this monitor because I purchased the Samsung - CRG9 Series Odyssey 49" LED Curved Dual QHD. But I am using a MacBook Pro 2020 to drive the monitor. I was just wondering what are you using for the display settings. Mine seem a bit to large and I do not know what to change. Any help you can offer up would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
inbuilt storage is faster than a sata ssd , i doubt you will feel it other than file transfers but in workload it useless to go even nvme over basic sdd :D people forget that because something is faster that does not mean it can be distingueshed amongst something slower
So let met get that straight... you bought a 700$ Mac mini with no dedicated graphics and paired it with a 1K 49" *gaming* monitor just to have the widest view possible? You're a mad lad. I love it! Normally I wouldn't do anything to the wall but I guess you can't really upgrade a monitor like that.
Hey mate, amazing setup and neat cable management. I’ve got the same monitor connected to me MacBook but the colours in it are terrible. Especially the blacks in movies can make the whole seen look dark. Do you have the same problem? Did you use a colour calibrator?
Hi - I haven't had any issues like that. I haven't used any colour calibration or anything, it just worked from the start. Sorry, I know that won't help you with your issues but I can't offer much more really.
Hi - i went for the 256GB inbuilt storage version. However, I also have a hub connected that has a changeable SSD storage on it which I currently have a 2TB SSD connected
Thank you and well done! Without a USB C port available on the Samsung monitor, how do you connect the Mac Mini to the monitor and what refresh rate were you able to achieve?
Interested to know why you went for a 49" screen rather than two screen setup. Was it purely for gaming, of which I have virtually no knowledge or interest? Recently bought an M1 to replace 2010 mini, so looking at options to improve experience. Currently using 27" Iiyama so considering two screen option which will give more than adequate screen space - there is sufficient space on my desk for the width. Always had at least one Mac in the house since 88, 86 if you include when I used to install and support them around the country for a dealership. Also any specific reason in choosing the Hagibis over AGPTek (or others) for the hub?
Nice setup, but uh why did you do the whole in-wall cable management if in the end we can still see the opening in the wall behind what I assume is a mic ( the spherical white thing on a tripod)? Wasn't it supposed to be higher up on the wall so it's behind the monitor?
So when you want to close a program completely, you'll have to drag your mouse across the wide screen to close it on the far left, no? Or is there a shortcut key for that?
Looks like a great set-up, clean and uncluttered, just two problems with it. As I have a PLEX system with 4,200 Blue-Ray ripped 4K movies and the 1,032 iTunes purchased movies all stored on my WD My Cloud PR4100 24Tb I most likely would mount that on the side or underneath the desk. The other thing is I would never put a 49’ers helmet on my desk, it just seems to cheapen the whole set-up. I personally would have a Detroit Red Wings helmet, I know they are in a rebuilding stage right now but you can’t argue with the fact that since 1984 they have made the playoffs 30 times including 25 years in a row from 1991 to 2016. The really impressive thing is in the 93 years of the Red Wings they have made the playoffs 64 of those years. Anyway nice setup, just lose the 49’ers helmet 😜
The Niners Helmet does take away from the elegance and grace you've achieved by mounting the display so perfectly to the wall, floating with no cables to see. Kill all the nick nacks and watch the mind become more centered ;)
Did that resolution work out of the box? I was reading that the new M1 macs were having issues displaying ultrawide resolutions, and people were having to use software workarounds to resolve it.
I’m getting the max that I can with the monitor I bought. So that’s 144hz refresh rate and 1080 resolution. Unfortunately the monitor is not a 4K one so I don’t know the answer to that!
It is still working very well for me. I haven’t got any dead pixels or issues of any sort. However, I will stress that I am not a everyday or massive user.
you are a risky guy))) Hang such an expensive monitor on a plasterboard wall))) Thanks for your review. I have the same table from IKEA and now I understand what size monitor to buy👍
It was super easy - but did take a bit of time (3 - 4 Hours). Powered up both macs, found the migration system on both and turned it on. They found each other by bluetooth, conformation password/code and the exchange took place. It took a while, but was really easy and seamless. My only advice is to clean your old device up and delete any files you don't need, just to shorten the transfer process. Sorry I didn't film it! Thanks for watching
Can you slide the monitor up and down on the wall mount? e.g. if you had a stand/sit desk? Also, can macOS use the "native" split screen (PvP) feature of the monitor?
Hi. No I can't slide it up and down, its at a fixed height - does have some left right and tilt on it but not fully movable. Yes I can split the screen between two inputs using the functions in the monitor. Ive only tried it a couple of times but works ok without any complicated work arounds.
i used a tv mount for my phillips 49 inch (same as this but gave it to my wife as the resolution is kind of useless for my workload) nice choice of parts ;)
I have the same monitor and also a mac mini M1 16GB 512 SSD version. Do your mac work beautifully with this monitor or do green and purple squares appear on the screen from time to time? After the last update a few days ago, the screen started blinking two or three times in half an hour.
I haven't had any issues like you describe. The only small thing I have is on the boot up - I have about 6 small green purple squares then, but once boot up is complete they disappear and all works well.
Are you using HDMI or Thunderbolt to Displayport? I have the same setup, but I can't seem to get the monitor to recognize the Mac mini using Displayport to USB-C. Any thoughts?
Hi - Im just using a HDMI at the moment, that worked straight out of the box - I have to say a few comments on here are making me think about the thunderbolt to display port but I'm sorry I don't have any advice or solution. Would like to know how you get on as it will influence me to give it a go or a miss.
@@cmfunboxing5309 I was eventually able to get my thunderbolt to display port cable to work. Importantly, I had to unplug the HDMI cable from the back of the Mac mini computer before the monitor would recognize the thunderbolt to display port connection. I also turned off and restarted all devices. That also seems to help. Be sure to set the higher resolution of 5120 x 1440 In the settings display tab.
i have a g5 with a mac mini on the way :). were u able to connect the monitor to the thunderbolt hub and use it? are u able to use another monitor as well?
Top wall hole should have been equally in height as the mounting plate for the monitor. You can clearly see the hole in the wall when you finished, nice try hiding it behind the snowball.
did you go through the trouble of fishing cable thru the wall and have them come out underneath the monitor? talk about washing your car in the rain lol.
Easy answer - no, no issues at all. The screen size is bigger for more windows/apps etc - but the size and clarity of the text remained pretty much the same. I have no issues with clarity or definition. I'm not a trained eye, but I don't notice any difference.
@@cmfunboxing5309 what resolution are you running at? I’m having the same issue as Mario Medina. Coming from a retina iMac, the text etc doesn't seem as crisp. I also have an issue with needing to unplug and plug the MacMini with the monitor upon turning on as the G9 doesnt identify it automatically. It's a known issue and I wonder if you're able to solve this?
I really like it for the sheer amount of real estate you have to work with. Its not perfect and the lack of speakers is a bit of a bummer considering the price I paid. Probably should have done my home work a little more!
Just bought the new M1 Macbook Pro 14' and the same monitor. The issue is I can't get the quality I expect. I cant turn freeSync on. The fonts are weird and blurry. I suspect it's the cable but I'm not sure of what to get. Any suggestion please?
Hi - I didn't raise that the cables were so important! I would suggest a thunderbolt to Mini display port of a reasonable quality - that allowed me to the get the max out of the monitor. I originally tried HDMI to HDMI and that was a little limited in its capacity. Hope it helps
This is almost my upgraded system excepting the wall mount (I have a massive desk) and MacBook Air as opposed to Mini. I was hoping to see how you convinced your Mac to see your 49" super ultrawide monitor as my Macbook doesn't seem to see it at all. So, at the moment, I have a 49" super Ultrawide boat anchor. Any hints?
Sorry no - I connected with a HDMI straight from the mini to the monitor and it picked it up straight off and I've not had any issues. Thats a big bit of hardware just to have laying around. Sorry I can't be of anymore help.
@@cmfunboxing5309 Turns out all I needed was the appropriate cable that could manage high-speed USB-C connection to my dock. Additionally, Big Sur update now offers 5K monitor setting The monitor is now a beautiful experience.
I didn’t have to use any apps at all. I managed to get the full refresh rate if 144hz but had to change to a display port cable not a HDMI. Think the monitor Max’s out at 1080p. Works well enough for me!
Don't route power through the wall...(I mean - do whatever you'd like, but I would advise STRONGLY against it) you could have spent some more time to just add a proper insulated box for wall power that piggy backs off of an existing outlet on a power strip...or anything else. That would be the ONE cable I would pull back out and keep outside of the wall.
I didn't use the one in the box as I thought I might need a longer one. Got a decent one from amazon (didn't want it to be the weak link in the set up) see link below: www.amazon.co.uk/IBRA-High-Speed-Supports-Compatible-PlayStation-Orange/dp/B07WN8C7XV/ref=sr_1_14?dchild=1&keywords=hdmi+cable&qid=1617037571&sr=8-14
Good Looking Set-UP [] re: 2010 i Mac > If You Got 11 Years Out of Your i Mac, that's exceptionaL as I've never gotten more than 8 Years from an i Mac before they dyed. Nice Video !
