I am all over the place asking for your help, Willie; and it seems I need your help again. I had to trim all four sides of the top and bottom panels for my buttoned rectangle cushion. That means I lost the part where I backstitch the seams. Now, I am trying to figure out how to secure those stitches. They will be in the half inch seam overlap for the top-to-side and bottom-to-side seam overlaps but I still worry about them. I am considering using leather cement for all of these seams but I do not want to go forward until I know what I should do to secure the stitching. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Looking good. You don't need to use a needle just pull the bottom thread and you'll get a loop to pull through.

Depends how far you sewed and where you want the knot. But yes if you plan ahead you can skip the needle. Best

One thing I've noticed is DIY'ers do not have the correct size staples. That is always good to highlight, especially for a bar stood.
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker Год назад
It's true, many people start out with T50 staples instead of fine wire upholstery staples. Thanks

Hi, I want to know if this machine can use #23 needle
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker Год назад
No, max needle size is 22. But there's no need to go above a #20 with this machine, because it maxes out with 92 weight (Tex 90) thread. Thanks

How does it sew with foam?
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker 4 месяца назад
It would do 1/4" scrim foam ok, but the presser foot doesn't lift very high. Max it will sew is about 5/16" compressed thickness.

You can research price here... www.sailrite.com/leatherwork-compact-leather-sewing-machine or compare it to a popular industrial walking foot that can sew thicker material... amzn.to/48RZRWi Good luck.

So are you still monitoring this 2021 video comments section? I discovered the base material of my kitchen stool is a piece of fine 'grain' particle board. Have you any experience substituting it for more sturdy material? The hardware mounting screws were pulling out hunks of the old board as they became use over time and I am reluctant to simply use it again. Simple plywood looks like the edges can't be trusted.
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker 2 года назад
Hi Michael, particle board actually works okay for stool seat bases. I've found particle board in original Stickley chairs. Plywood is even better. I usually buy plywood from a hardwood retailer for better quality. Best of luck.

@@TheThoughtfulWoodworker Thank you very much for the comeback. I had hoped with your shop equipment and presentation manner that you might know. I realized this morning [guardian angel at work] if I simply flipped the particle board over and used the other side my concern about edge deterioration would no longer apply. My chair had a rim roll of welting and the mfg stapled it VERY close to the edge. I am wondering if the welting is actually required. It gives a nice edge, but I am planning to use the solid thick tacks instead of staples and am afraid it will break out the wood. I have T50 and T25[for round elec wire] hand staplers but doubt if they are strong enough to penetrate the wood properly.
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker
@TheThoughtfulWoodworker 2 года назад
@@michaelpcooksey5096 Edge roll is usually optional, as long as there's something to pad the wood. I've never had very good luck with manual or electric staplers, but they work in a pinch. Pneumatic staplers, especially fine wire upholstery staplers are preferred if you're doing much upholstery work. For one or two projects a year, just use whatever you have. Best

Hi Wendy, that's a pair of small magnetic edge guides. They're the generic version, but Sailrite sells a long magnetic edge guide that's better. Best
@dannyl2598
@dannyl2598 2 года назад
You may find that the platform of your sewing machine has one or two empty screw holes near the needle, these are for attaching an assortment of things such as edge guides. Just don't use long screws that could interfere with the machine.
