My wife and I have hiked to Ramsey’s Cascade twice. We ventured past the falls and I can tell you that it’s not worth the risk. Ramsey’s cascade is really the peak of the hike. Anything we saw above the falls, is no better than all the great views we saw before the the falls. At 8+ miles round trip my recommendation is to pack a nice lunch to eat at the falls and then head back to the trailhead. Enjoy this beautiful and challenging hike and then go see other falls before risking an off trail trip that really isn’t worth the effort. Love the smokies.
