I am very sorry to hear about this terrible crime especially in Iceland where people still trust in today’s world. I was sicken and very angry at the same time. Please if you witness a girl anywhere who is showing signs of vulnerability like this please help out. At this time of day especially. This sign of intoxication could be from a spiked drink as well. Observe from a distance and call police. Monitor the situation and if they are hassled from someone trying to pick them up show that you are recording them from a safe distance until police arrive. Video of this beautiful girl with an incredible smile will forever haunt me. She should still be alive today. I will never forget and will do what ever it takes so it never repeats this again. If it means calling a cab and paying for it or the police. I would be very proud of the speed and efficiency of the police investigation and all the well organized coast guard search and rescue. Such a organized turn out of this scale is unheard of here in Ontario.
You're a good man, to be so affected like that. It's good you want to stop it happening again. But you say 'I will never forget and will do what ever it takes so it never repeats this again.' As much as you want to, you can't stop most things like this happening alone - rape, robbery and/or murder happens everyday, to thousands, even hundreds of thousands, of women (and men). But you are right, individual men (and women), can protect individual women (and men) from something this terrible. Intoxication isn't a reason you'd want to see something terrible happen to them. I'm a woman, and I once stopped an unconscious, alone, intoxicated man choking on his vomit by turning him over, and called an ambulance. Obviously that's a yuckier example of saving a life, but absolutely you really can save a life (or the person from serious trauma), if you take the time to care. Certainly younger women, frequently don't seem to realise how vulnerable they are to sexual assault or worse, alone in the dark, intoxicated. You can walk home 100 times safely, and on the 101st time, a pervert rape you. Rapists will often hang around looking for young women in that situation, knowing they are easy pickings. In my nearest city (Manchester in the UK), one poor girl got raped twice within an hour, by two completely separate rapists looking for victims. Together, we all have to remind each other, about watching out for each other. It's better than waking up the next day to them missing, and you knowing you could have done something. If anyone of either gender can't monitor a person of either gender for any reason, you usually only need to call the police and tip them off. I don't know what it's like worldwide, but here in the UK, the police will then drive by, or CCTV operatives will keep the cameras trained on the person. That's all you need to do, if you aren't able to monitor them yourselves - call the police and state your worries.
More like, you're 'stupid'. For telling someone they're 'stupid', and to 'shut up', because they saw something different to you, on misty, dark, CCTV footage. I'm not going to try to explain to you how complicated human vision is, and why different people sometimes see different things to others (WITHOUT being 'stupid'), when they can only see a little bit of what is going on. But for now, try to learn not to call people 'stupid', or tell them to 'shut up', until you're old enough to understand psychology and human vision. Also, try to learn that whilst that sort of response is common amongst adolescents, it still just makes you look silly and immature. Good luck with it.
The longer she is bent over, the more coins appear to fall from her person. She is wasted. She spent a minute too long bent over, as well. When she stands erect, the blood rushed to her head and she about stumbled into traffic. I don't care if it is Never-never land, a woman should never venture out on her own at night. Dang!

Thank you David for giving Birna a voice! If people had been following this story which started mid January they would know that a young lady who was at the same event was drugged and had to go to the hospital. So what may look like a vulnerable "drunk" young lady walking down the steet might just we a poor victim of a person trying to take advantage of her! The Killer/Rapist was at the same event she was that night, the Killer/Rapist has Raped any innocent women before!
Thank-You Chris for letting me know. I just had a feeling about this and is no different than the sinking feeling in my gut when I found out Birna was missing. I do not have any powers that I know of and am not a overly spiritually person but the connection is very real to a person that I did not know. The loss of Birna has was no different then losing a loved one or family member to me. Still have not been able to watch this video after the first time and I don't thing I ever will. I hope the other lady recovered ok. Sorry on my poor translation above as I am still trying to learn the beautiful language. Lets hope everyone keeps an eye out for everyone and stay safe. So sorry once again Chris about this horrible tragedy and that you knew Birna. Justice needs to be served soon. This has had a deep impact on myself and will never forget nor should anyone else. The feeling was very strong that Birna was drug-ed and regret in not emphasizing that more after reading it back. Yes, read the context. She was an Icelandic girl, who got murdered, walking home drunk and alone. It made big news because Iceland rarely has any murders - let alone ones by strangers.
