MRIs require a coil to capture clear images of the anatomy of interest. Be prepared for your MRI by understanding the complete exam experience. goo.gl/VG52l9 www.rayusradiology.com
I had an Upright MRI done ten years ago (for my pelvic area) and most recently (5 months ago) for my neck. It is the only way I can get it done. I get claustrophobic and have anxiety disorder. I traveled 3 1/2 hours away to NYC to get it done but it is worth the effort. I had zero anxiety.
I can't do it laying down I can't lay flat because I can't breathe well from chronic sinusitis and I have acid reflux. I can't lay flat when I sleep either I have 3 large pillows. I tried laying down and I started having trouble breathing and post nasal drip and when they put the things around my head and went to move me in the tube i yelled I can't breathe. I was so mad at myself I really need this done. They said they have another facility that does the upright MRI where I can sit. I'm going to try to do that.
@@c.b.jersey7304 Were you able to tolerate the upright MRI? I suffer from the same issues as you. I walked out of the wide bore and open machine because I couldn't do it. I'm awaiting authorization from my insurance to have the upright scan at an out of network facility.
I am afraid of the coil on my face I have anxiety over things that I can’t control holding me down or feeling of suffocation. Please loving FATHER GOD in the Mighty name of JESUS CHRIST your loving Son our precious SAVIOR protect me and take away this demon called fear. In JESUS Mighty loving Name Amen🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
I suffer from anxiety which results at times in instant panic attacks and I am claustrophobic as well....at one time I was able to handle a MRI and short elevator rides but no longer....when visiting someone in a hospital I will now use the stairs even for a lousy 2 floors but now even the stairs have started to give me great anxiety....the fear of the door I enter to use the stairs locking behind me and the door at the end of the stairs for me to exit being locked etc....and for a cylinder style MRI forget about it.......I was able to tolerate an MRI when i was younger ( 20''s-40's ) but the older I got the worse it became and now I absolutely refuse to have an MRI done....and than this past summer I started to have terrible sharp pains in my upper legs and my doctor told me the best thing would be for me to have an MRI of my lower lumbar......and he mentioned that I might be able to handle a stand up MRI......so I made an appointment with the nearest one to me here on Long Island which was about a 35 minute drive away and It was a world of difference and I was able to have it done with only a bit of anxiety but without having a panic attack or fear of no escaping......I was placed in a sitting position and in front of me was open with a big screen tv screen on the wall ahead if I wanted to watch TV. ..they had a local news station on but I requested the sound be muted which they did....and while the sides were close to me having it totally open in front of my vision field made all the difference in the world for me...along with my being in sitting position and not on my back .......it took about 30-40 minutes and only near the end did I start to have a feeling of claustrophobia but no where near as bad as the old style cylinder MRI......so for those like me who would rather take a bullet than to have an old style MRI I strongly suggest finding a place that has a Stand Up MRI......after experiencing one I wish there were more places that have them as the difference to me was like night and day.
Tommy I have also same problem its instant panic attack.I am suffering this when I did my first MRI that was 2011.and now I am only 30years old.still I have this problem.
I can’t take elevators either. I walk up the hospital stairs but I check first to always make sure the first floor stairs are not locked just in case the other floors are locked. I been there to after reaching each floor I check to make sure the stairs is open not locked. I like the standing up MRI but can’t do the head coil. I seen other standing up MRI without the head coil but maybe it depends on what is being examined meaning what part of your body is being viewed.
I just had my MRI two days ago. I have low back pain and didn’t like this at all. I didn’t find it to alleviate my fear of enclosed spaces either. The large open disc that floats above you on the other types of MRI machines works much better for me. My back was aching from having to sit up so straight for so long.
A lot of doctors prefer this style of open MRI because when you are laying down, the pressure on your back is evenly distributed throughout. When you are sitting upright, there more pressure on your back from gravity pushing down.
Can you do MRI on pelvis area without me laying on my back? It is hard for me to lay on my back for more than 10 minutes. I tired on both the conventional and tilted MRIs both requiring me lay on my back, and had to stop because of discomfort. Is it possible to undergo pelvis area MRI while standing or sitting? Please advise.
Science needs to get real with this ! These aren't comfortable either ! It is unrealistic for a human to be shoved in a tube like a torpedo and these are better but not nearly enough !!!!!
This wouldn't even help me. It's not only the small space that is terrifying. It's having my head stuck in that coil. even if I can see, I will have a massive panic attack if I can't easily get my head out of that thing by myself. I have PTSD and a massive fear of being held down or trapped. I haven't slept at night since finding out I need a brain MRI. I might just not do it and put up with dizziness and daily non stop headaches. 😭
Totally understand! For me, laying down made me TOTALLY feel vulnerable and then having that f'n cage over your head just made it unbearable. With the sitting down, I feel more in control. Even the helmet allows me to see forward I believe. Forward open space. The think that would upset me I THINK, would be that seat going in further between those big magnetic discs. But I'm going to try it if my insurance allows it. I would also take about 3 mg of klonopin before. Valium doesn't help me. Well at least the 1 mg they gave me the last time I tried the traditional way. And I would need some one there to make sure I don't fall over because I would be loopy. lol. If anyone is going to do this, post here again. Let us know how your experience went. If I do, I'll share my experience. Take care all.
I did - or was supposed to do - the regular one for my head and they put the "helmet" over my face and I panicked.I went back twice, the second time with valium, and I just couldn't go through with it. This looks a lot better, but they are all torture instruments regardless!
How loud are these relative to conventional MRI's? Anyone have a relative decibel rating? Trying to get more information because I am unable to get a supine MRI.
Looks like one of those dental x-ray machines you around someone s head. Never worked on FOnar, Would be interesting. Looks like the patient is about to about to go on one of those spiral, gyroscope twristing, roating rides or at space camp. lol
Highly advice against going to Rayus Radiology for any of your imaging needs. I went in around a month ago and they literally microwaved my back leaving nasty 2nd and 3rd degree burns to my right side. I called the place up and reported the incident. The manager was so rude she has yet to accept culpability already and apologize. If you care about your body and piece of mind look for an imaging center that actually sees you as a patient not a dollar bill!
I tried this machine for a cervical neck MRI. The chair “flips” backward and it is horrible. I noped right on out of it in under 2 minutes. Ending up getting mine done in the pancake style open MRI. Doc prescribed me a Xanax before too lol. Much better.
Can this be used for finding parathyroid adenomas? And is the quality of these images really good? The tube version of the MRI machine supposedly yields better pictures, but for claustrophobic patients this is no option.
For a parathyroid adenoma, you’re going to want the higher resolution that 3T or even 1.5T conventional scanners offer. The is at a 0.6T so the magnetic field is weaker resulting in loss of image resolution.
Can you do breast MRI with this type? I'm a heavy set lady. I tried getting it done with a regular machine, and it was squeezing my back and sternum so much, that I couldn't even take in a breath! They couldn't do the MRI! The breast MRI requires the ladies to lay on top of a piece that raises your upper body so the breasts hang down through the thing that raises you up. So, if you are a larger woman it is impossible! I found out I have cancer, and they really need to do an MRI so they can see how far it has gone, what stage, and probably a lot of other things. Between getting referrals, approvals, and find one that works... I'm terrified the cancer will be all through my body by the time I can get it checked! Please pray for me 😢🙏🏼
I need a heart MRI and they told me it would take 2 hours. The tech did a test run and I was in there for about 10 seconds and I said nope. Got some meds gonna try again in 2 weeks.
Yes because they gave that person earplugs. It may not be as noisy though but I have no idea. A lot of the older and perhaps newer OPEn MRI s purr like a kitten so they say
This upright looks more “doable” for me. I hope this is what my Dr is referring to for my brain MRI. They are scheduling me for an open MRI since I failed miserably with the tube type and the confined space.
I ended up with the standard open MRI. I would not necessarily describe it as easy since I had to wear all the “head gear”, but I did it. If I had to do another I would be less apprehensive.
@@tomhb9479 I hope I can find one in my area. I live in St Louis Missouri. Times like this I think why's life so hard for us because... it's ALREADY hard for us. I have a clogged vessel in my eye and it's blurring my vission. i have no support from others right now so thanks for your comment.
I’ll say a prayer for you Damari for complete healing. Try and not get too down. I know these things can be depressing. I’ve been dealing with issues from a car accident for 6 months now. I am getting better with some symptoms and I try to stay positive just because the alternative is worse.
NOPE NOPE NOPE Look the tube ones aren’t fun but it’s dark and all 5 I’ve ever had done have had music or noice canceling shit. But I’m getting stressed watching this. Like, tied in a chair, a weird cage around your head, leaning back at strange angles without your feet on a truly solid area.
Because it's expensive beyond imagination (there are so many magnets, which require liquid helium for cooling to remain operational). Though, apparently, it's also capable of some unique feats, such a full-body scans in different positions (sitted, standing, bended, twisting), which normal MRI machines can't do at all (it requires patient to be able to move).
Daniel Yahudah Israel I just had my MRI two days ago. I have low back pain and didn’t like this at all. I didn’t find it to alleviate my fear of enclosed spaces either. Because it is more expensive, needs more room, exam takes way more time and image quality is shit. If you're claustrophobic, then ask to be sedated. If the sedation risk is bigger than whatever you wanted to look for with an MRI, then the MRI wasn't needed. Now they try to market it for full body scans. FBS is BS.
The reason that these aren’t more available is that the magnet strength isn’t as good on theses kinds of machines. The highest this machine will go is 0.6 Tesla, while the closed bore MRI machines can go up to 7T in a clinical setting. This machine is also limited to the kinds of exams it can do, so it wouldn’t be able to scan the more intricate exams like the other ones can.
Hi Jane - thanks for your comment! We have the Open Upright MRI at our centers in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin, Creve Coeur, Missouri, Renton, Washington, and in the Twin Cities. Let us know if you have other questions!
Just think if we dont have MRI or CT scan its hard to know or much worse coz they dont know whats happening to ur brain or body....how will they know if we dont have MRI or CT scan.?
nope, once I was raised, tilted back and then sucked back into the machine with the walls squeezing me from both sides I had to get out. I'll stick with the new Tesla wide MRI's instead.
Omg the helmet is the worst!! I think I may have been able to deal with the brain mri but they pit the helmet and slid me into the tube and I immediately had a panic attack and begged them to get me out! I then tried to take the helmet off and it was locked! Longest 30 seconds of my life. I burst into tears and didn't just leave-I fled. I'm now having to do an "open" mri but there's still the helmet! What kind of psycho invented this torture device? I'm hoping the Valium doctor prescribed works this time. The feeling of being trapped is just too terrifying 😢
all in all a great idea, but that scanner look so narrow, i don't think my shoulder would fit inside it and i don't think i am abnormal wide :) ban the magnets be moved to make more room
American system: Get to sit up in a fancy scanner, but I’m sorry, your insurer doesn’t cover you for what we found NHS system: Bear with us in this lay flat MRI and don’t worry. If we find anything you’re covered.
Nock me out with some good sleeping stuff and then we will talk after the process than aigan I might come for another appointment i wake up to find me still in the machine ahh running out of thare grabbing the clothes I came in with see ya im out here doc unless I can watch some paw patrol on the TV in front of me oh look you came back ok doc let's do this bye see ya later doctor.
