UPS paints our aircraft every 6 - 10 years. Most aircraft are painted in Peru, Indiana at Dean Baldwin Paint. Watch this video to see how we're working to improve the process. #avgeeks #UPS #paint
MD-11, Mr. Bouncy. I love them too, especially watching them bounce on landing (every MD-11 will bounce on landing because of design). I always loved trijets like the 727 and DC-10 as a kid, the MD-11 was the last hoorah for them and is still being used as cargo luckily so we can still see them. Unfortunately they are being replaced more and more every year, they will soon be gone.
@@shapman280 I heard Boeing is shutting down production of the 747-8F's for good, the 747 will no longer be produced pretty soon. They are losing money for each one built, so even though cargo companies are begging for them, they are sadly going extinct.
Nice, great job by the people who did the paint, kind of cool when the dad looks to the sky holding a child’s hand and says, look, I painted that airplane!
To be absolutely specific, it’s in Pipe Creek Township, at Grissom Air Reserve base. It’s great that you acknowledge the companies that to this amazing work. Especially one with as interesting a story as a $140,000 per year Ma and Pop company, to a lady bringing it up to a $30,000,000 dollar company. Great job to UPS, Mrs. Baldwin, and the employees thereof.
Thank you for clarifying where at in peru..I live in ks but am very familiar with grissom and peru as I have close family north of Peru and have been traveling there for many years.
Who says you can’t polish a turd? Hahaha Just kidding. I love the MD11. The amount of overtime it takes to keep them flying is going to pay for my kids’ college.
When I still did autobody work 10 years ago. The epa mandated all paint be environmentally friendly by 2010 or so. It was way better then the oil based stuff, with a lot less oder. I don't know what the system is now, but it way better then when I left.
I've painted a couple of triples and I can tell you, its bloody hard work. Hot, sweaty, my right arm ached and you have to wear a breathing apparatus with full body paper overalls. Still, it was a good experience.
N286UP = this is an ex Swissair MD11 (former HB-IWH) so that means it has PW engines as well! The old paint job look totally wasted and it stripped off with ease.
SDF is one of the few airports in the world where you can still see DC-10/MD-11s on a regular basis. I think all of the passenger versions have been retired.
Yeah, Sdf is a great place to spot. Tons and tons and tons of trijets, also 767's are pretty common as well. The occasional a300 which is always a great plane to see. Before I went plane spotting I thought living in Louisville was the most boring thing ever.
sure if they pay me $30/h other wise HELL NO it would drive me insane but if there's money involve i can keep my self sane by thing about all the upgrades i could do to my Land Cruiser with that money.

Thanks! I wonder how could I be so stupid to forget those things exist, given that I had the opportunity to see the devices in action (in other cirumstances).
Cargo carriers generally buy aircraft that have been retired from passenger service because they are cheap and cargo planes typically fly short distances between hubs so maintaining the older planes is not a big issue. Apart from practical purposes, I'm just glad that classic former airliners such as the MD-11 and DC-10 have found another place in the sky despite their obsolescence.
You are misinformed. Regularly painted planes are more economical (reduced drag). You can be sure that the time between paint jobs is thoroughly calculated to ensure the lowest costs.
Oh definitely especially when they have the car show there every year. Last one was August 1st of 2020. They have really neat cars there posing with the old aircraft pretty neat.
Maybe Paint It Custom Green Gold and Pink For All The Health Care Workers And The Love and Respect We All Have For Them Around The Globe . UPS and The Pilots are NUMBER 1
Get a job for UPS, FedEx, or Western Global and you may have a chance. It’s a bit too late for Lufthansa Cargo, because theirs are quickly being replaced by 777Fs.
Yep is done at the Grissom Air Force Base South of Peru Indiana on 31 about 5 miles. I drive down 31 quite often and if you look a lot of times you'll see Air Force One sitting there that's. That's where they paint the president's plane at. Vice president Pence lands there whenever he would go to Kokomo or Indy. If you're ever in the neighborhood they have a fantastic Air Museum there.
MD - 11 шикарный самолет, обожаю эту машину!!! И благодаря ребятам из таких компаний как UPS эти машины до сих пор в строю а не порезанные на металл. Круто!
