Tung-Sol KT120 - Super cool KT88 variant made by New Sensor in Russia. This tube is a drop-in replacement for KT88s... no special re-wiring required! The KT120 is rated to have a plate dissipation of 60W... compared with the 35W of the 6550, the 42W of the KT88, that's a lot of juice!

The filament increase between KT88 and KT120 is an extra 1.8 Watt (9.5W versus 11.3W) and I doubt if that will give any amplifier a problem. So no surprise manufacturers are say that it is OK.

That's not true. McIntosh states the KT120 tube can not be used in the MC275 IV amp. I don't know about the other series of 275 amps.

Why oh why doesn't someone with "a true and complete understanding and passion of valves" apply their rare multi-faceted genius to the long lost art of valve design and manufacture. Even at a rate of a quad per day would return $1,000,000,000+ yearly.
