I don't fully understand. Joe was dead on board but made a deal with Seb to survive, but somehow Seb worked for you and concedes when you die?

@@befuddledfaun It's Kingmaker that benefits those that are ahead typically, but it can be fun. It is completely offputting in game recordings though, since its so contextual that without the dialogues we can't pick stuff like that up.

Players at a table make a stupid deal, deal immediately bites them in the ass. I'm all for politicking in commander but that's just awful and y'all need to learn to get better at it.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend, Seb had the most life and he knew Joe's deck was able to deal damage to each opponent, so he was comfortable letting him take them out for him, and he would of won if Joe didn't get that last extra turn spell. It's a free for all game, not 1v1 or 2v2, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

It depends on the board conversations went during the match. On a free for all game those can massively change the focus and outcome of the game. In my personal experience it usually those conversations end in one of the following: - A personal vendetta were one guy had enough and decides to throw the match you to get 1 player. - A 2v2 were two decide to settle things betwen them after the other two are out and the other two join forces because they have to get rid of them. - An Archenemy were one player is so ahead or its end game was revealed that everyone agrees that they must take him down. - The clown fiesta were the caos on the table its so bad that everyone is just fucking with each other. - The low profile / snake tongue / scratch your back player manipulates eveyone to ignore him until he obliterates everyone in 1 turn.

Disregard what everyone is saying. Seb knew what he was doing, it was just he made a deal to turn a blind eye for one reason or another. Kevin posted a comment saying this (though he didn't give the details of the deal, just that Seb apparently worked for Joe?)

@@Someone-lg6di because it was likely that joe's hits off the top would kill Seb's opponents, since he was at a relatively high life total. Allowing him to then kill Joe and win the game. Smart play, just unlucky

@@Tehnameless1 I see... in this case, Seb failed to put an insurance clause in his deal. ALWAYS have an insurance clause, like "after the other two are down, you'll spare me and let me have at least one more turn."

Because most casual EDH players are very, very, very, VERY bad at using countermagic properly and wind up blowing these critical interactive spells on pointless shit that doesn't matter.

If I remember, I wanted the cards right then and there. I was less concerned about what it countered, and Max just happened to be the last in the cycle

@@90spepe no it just shows how bad the table is at threat assessment. He had 2 life left and was signaling a win. It's not like he was countering every spell while drawing a million and at 400hp. Any deck above focused that is just left to its own devices will just win

I think his topdeck options were poor and he wanted to avoid drawing early hate to himself until he could either get better cards on the top of his library or multiple Yuriko triggers per combat.

luckily, the other players missplayed just as bad so he could still win

@@DarkEinherjar he had brainstorm and vamp tutor in the first few turns, arguable some of the best spells in the deck. Idk if he runs Draco but i would have vamp tutored Draco for 1 trigger and brainstormed it back in response to the next and killed the table

@@DarkEinherjar I have a Yuriko deck myself, don't think the correct play is to attempt to optimize your triggers and sacrifice the card draw aspect. The card draw of Yuriko is the strongest aspect of the deck imo, the damage is just gravy. If you can manipulate your deck to get better triggers, great, but you shouldn't go out of your way just to do that and sacrifice card advantage.

Nope, Max played a Merfolk Trickster which when enters the battlefield makes a target creature lose all abilities, he chose Marchesa

I have some steal effects in there so if they make tokens I can rub it in

@@Sir_Logurt it's so painful watching someone pilot a yuriko deck so wrong, lol.

It's actually not. If you just focus on getting a ton of triggers, you'll out-card-advantage everyone by so much that it'll hardly matter, and with the proper selection of spells that cost less than their CMC to cast, you'll still do enormous damage over a long enough time period. I run a Yuriko deck with no topdeck manipulation and no extra turns, and it's still really nasty despite the deliberately toned-down nature of it. If you want optimized, then sure, you need topdeck manipulation, but optimized isn't always the most fun.

for the casual crowd, lol. in cEDH rack and top are generally bad.

Extra turn cards are incredibly powerful if I know someone has an extra turn and I don't have a counter congrats I'm now doing player removal

Is it? If we keep in mind Seb had the most life by a solid margin, then I think it makes a lot more sense. Yuriko will kill his other opponents before she kills him, and he can easily kill Joe at any time (or so he might think). I can understand the thought process, and while it didn't pan out, it would have without the second extra turn spell off the top. He'd have a much harder time winning by battering down several opponents than by sniping them when they hit low life. Even when something turns out badly, that doesn't mean it was a mistake at the time the decision was made, with the information available then.
