I have this bike! I commute everyday on it and drop the kids off to school on it. There is no other bike like this on the market. Great review 🙂 btw. I have upgraded the rear cassette to 11-32 teeth and the cranks to longer 'normal' 170mm ones and the bike loves it.
Nice! Those are great upgrades... was it difficult? Did you order the parts and do yourself or get some help from a shop or something? Also, how much did it cost?
@@ElectricBikeReview It was just a normal crank and chainring change but you do need a crank extractor, £40 from eBay and the cassette just needs a cassette tool and a big adjustable spanner. £30 for the cassette. They are the old school threaded type. I did it myself but I did used to work in a bike shop 🙄. Any shop should be able to do it if they have the 'fairly common' parts.
@@mikeyg5159 - it's an extended seat. Check it out. Still 1299 + 99 shipping on Indigogo. Ending soon. I don't work for them, just like the bikes and the company.
I now like the real time riding without holding the camera. Gives it a true perspective of the ride. The only issue other than the price is, if you live in an area that is tough on ebike laws they might stop you because it looks so much like a vehicle that requires a plate. I am blessed I live in a small town with few cops and they don’t care what you drive as long as you respect the speed limit. You always do great reviews. Keep up the great work.
When police stop you, then only because they're curious what you're riding on :-P never had a bad experience with an officer as long as you respect the laws!
@@UrbanDrivestyle Aussie cops get you on technicalities regardless of what speed it was driven, take a 1000w Bullet scooter for instance doing 12 mph, they get you on the wattage and vehicle type
There is nothing new in this bike. In feet most e-bicycle, except they have motor and battery. Call this e-moped or whatever, except bicycle. I even wonder the cost of motor and battery is so expensive. Because no major manufacturer have made e-motorcycle?
So you're signing on as an endorsement for a silly bike you can't adjust the seat to extend your legs on. It's amazing what people will do for a 12-cent ad
I have 2 of the step thru versions of this bike (Unimoke Swing) one is setup for fun and the other for cargo, out of the 6 bikes I own these are by miles the best bikes I have they are so versatile thanks to the huge amount of accessories available from Urban Drivestyles website. They are comfortable to ride with an extremely solid build (built like a mini tank tbh) and the WOW factor is through the roof I always get asked about them whether I am just out for a ride or carrying a load of supplies on the front and rear racks people just want to know about them :)
Great comment, Dave! Yeah, the official accessories are great, I love when companies offer a full range. Glad to hear the hardware is tough and holding up well for you!
One can never go wrong purchasing a SweetPea approved bike. This looks like a great fun loving bike to own. I like the combination of a torque sensor coupled with a throttle. Great combination from Bafang.
What i like about the super long banana seat is you can in theory seat 2 children in front of you. Maybe install a child handlebar. But its a $2k bike, not a 3k bike.
Hi Donnie, the price we were told is $2,990 and I always round up for the shortened version in the titles here. Sometimes, companies will have a high MSRP and lower actual price to make it seem like a good deal. Where's the price you are seeing?
I'll have to find a picture of my Frist dritbike .My tecumseh lawnmower powered Looked almost Exactly like this Even The Seat was and released just like that. And that was in 1972.minus the front suspension.
Huh, that's awesome! I'd love to see that picture, if you get it! Share a post in the Bike Garage back in the forums :D electricbikereview.com/forum/forums/introductions/
Let's just say I have more than 1 of these bikes. My whole family rides them. Everyone loves them. The extended seat is a key feature. My son loves it. My wife loves it. But; riding it with all three together is priceless. Love this bike. Best purchases ever!
Here's a similar one for $1.7k from Spark Bikes electricbikereview.com/spark-bikes/blade-ebike/ and Pedro makes a good point about the RadRunner being another option that's fairly affordable electricbikereview.com/rad-power-bikes/radrunner/ and here's another from Ariel Rider called the D Class electricbikereview.com/ariel-rider/d-class/ what's your favourite?
@@pedrofernandez3893The Radrunner uses the same motor as the Unimoke except Rad refers to it as a 750w motor while in fact it is a 500w nominal 750w peak they always quote the peak numbers on their bikes
Finally! Been waiting a while for EBR to review this brilliantly engineered ebike. By far this is the most versatile, utilitarian ebike you can buy. Check their website to see all the different configurations you can build. Yes, you can take 2 people on it, and you can carry cargo for shopping runs, outings, etc, which makes it a very practical vehicle. My only gripe besides the price: Why no mid-drive??? It's almost a deal-breaker for me.
Ossian Vogel - I understand the pros (many) and cons (essentially cost) of having a mid-drive, and that the existing frame design of the unimoke makes it quasi impossible to integrate such a motor. All I'm saying is that from the perspective of a rider who rides in hilly areas (San Francisco or Seattle are perfect examples), and/or plans on taking a passenger often, torque and power efficiency are key, and especially for a heavy bike, a mid-drive is optimal, also because it brings the center of gravity closer to the center, which is what you want. I've ridden a mid-drive (Bosch) and the difference in performance is very clear. Also it makes rear wheel maintenance much easier, saving time and money. Regarding your point about mid-drive models, I agree that trying to come up with a frame which accommodates many different models, would not make sense to do. What would make sense would be to pick a good model/brand, like Bosch, and partner with them. Of course you'd have to change the frame design in order to accommodate their mid-drive, but then you can justify your higher price point. Bottom line is that an e-bike of this form factor and utilitarian function, is begging for a mid-drive, and if the Unimoke had one it would undisputedly be the top-of-the-line option, with a justifiable price.
Ossian Vogel - Ok, I see (regarding Bosch) and your philosophical position. So then, does Urban Drivestyle sell the Unimoke bare (no motor, only pedals)? If so that could be a great option for us "tuners" to install a mid-drive ourselves. If that's the case I wouldn't mind buying the bare bike, which would also cost much less I'd imagine.
@@EPSTomcat11 You can definitely get the Unimoke frame on its own, it's on their EU website at least. I just wish they did an aluminium frame. Too many eBikes go with Steel, even in the mini-bike category and when you add that to all the weight of the motor etc it turns them all into tanks. I get that a lot of people say "well you're gonna ride it with assist anyway so why does it matter" but i'd at least like the option to ride un-assisted when I want to (not least in case the battery dies) and it will make it easier for the motor to push up hills.
Lol, yeah... most of these scrambler style ebikes aren't that fun to pedal. I covered one from Spark Bikes a while back called the Blade and had a good time romping around :P electricbikereview.com/spark-bikes/blade-ebike/
She is so adorable ♥️ I would get her some sunglasses, so she doesn't get anything in her eyes. Looking forward to the accessories! I'm considering a similar type bike from AddMotor, and came looking for reviews... hint hint 😃
When do you plan on posting the accessory review? Also curious if you plan on doing a review of the Uni Swing? I'm pretty sold on Urban Drivestyle bikes over Rad Power or Juiced because of the load capacity of 400lbs. I plan on riding with two (adult) passengers quite frequently and no other bike in this category markets load capacity anywhere close to 400lbs.
... I hope we can get bikes that look like this to denmark / eu market soon. We are so far behind in denmark and bikeshops here sells bikes that aint half this great at this pricepoint and that looks like the ugliest bicycles ever.
Does this bike operate on the throttle alone, or do you have to pedal the bike in order to get the bike moving? In your review you say you prefer to operate the bike without pedaling, but it seems like you are pedaling the entire time and never solely using the throttle to power the bike.
You're joking right? The Luna Banana BBSHD eBike is available w/a 'hotrod' 52v - 1500watt+ for only $2600. Triple the power & 160nm of torque all for a lot less money and... they're a USA based supplier. Just sayin' folks!
@@ruskokollektiv5457 - I wouldn't buy an Addmotor bike. Average bikes, extremely bad company. JUICED bikes are incredible. Their new Scorpion is an offer on Indegogo for $1299 right now. Simply unbelievable specs for the price. Great company. American. Classy owner.
@@spfttt I agree with you. But I have a suggestion for you. I think you should try purchasing the (Juiced Scrambler) it has that same type of old retro look at about half the price now that is on sale at $1,500 USD. They also have an new ebike out that's call the (Scorpion) but I don't know the exact price of it. They are great bikes because I have one and it's fast and the battery last a long time.
I like when the other guy does the reviews. Because he gets right to the point on his reviews. A half hour is pretty long to review an ebike. Plus for some reason he loses me as the video goes along. He just makes the reviews more boring and complicated
Thanks for your feedback, Eric. This is the other guy (Court) and I'm working to cover lots of bikes but also be high quality. I couldn't do it without some help, but we are always working to improve and I know that Mikey is trying his best. Again, your direct feedback and criticism is always welcome and appreciated.

@@ElectricBikeReview Hey Court I also want to apologize to you as well about my negative feedback on your ebike review that @MikeyG did. I also want to thank you for bringing to my attention of the high amount of ebikes you review and that you wouldn't be able to do them all without help. Now I realize the amount of diligent work and time that's involved with it all. So I thank the both of you for everything.
Due to the electric bike's high value, they have become favorite targets for theaves. Trying to install an aftermarket tracking device would seem futile. Why not pre-install a GPS tracker device and charge a small fee for their customer to join the network.
Hi Dennis! I got to cover this anti-thief thing a while back called the Boomerang. It's not perfect, but might be worth checking out electricbikereview.com/accessories/boomerang-bike/cyclotrac-gps-bike-security-alarm-tracker/
Hi Maria! That's a great request, I will start asking more when we cover the bikes... many are made in China but companies are moving towards Vietnam and Taiwan too. I don't know about where Urban Drivestyle sources their bikes and parts.
True, they look a bit different and I like how the RadRunner has the adjustable height driver seat. Both bikes are neat and I'm glad that we finally got to cover the Uni Moke :)
I almost bought this bike! The capability of seating your child in front of you really sold me as I have a four year old. But the price was too high for the specs, 500 watt nominal was too low for that amount of money. If it was 750 nominal, I would have bought it but 3k was just too much.
Awesome, how are you liking the Ariel Rider D Class so far? Had a great time covering that one a while back electricbikereview.com/ariel-rider/d-class/
@@ElectricBikeReview it's actually because of your review that I decided to buy the bike so... High five! I haven't received it yet not withstanding the fact I ordered it almost 2 months ago but I'm excited to get it. The one thing I will say though is I guess it's really popular because there is always a long wait to get the bike! Maybe Ariel Rider can work on that 👍
