Hey friends,
This video is a part two to my urban planning q&a from a few months ago answering some of your questions! I talk about the differences between urban studies and urban planning, job prospects, and book recommendations for aspiring planners!
Ultimately I decided not to work as a traditional planner, but instead to work in community + economic development as a commercial corridor manager. TIMESTAMPS BELOW

This is so inspirational! As a Latino construction worker wanting to do more for my community , I decided to go to college at the age of 30. A bit late but I am glad I am taking this step in my life. I am also grateful for your videos and all the information you have given us. This is so helpful for those of us who are interested in joining the field. Thank you !

One thing I’ve learned while surfing the web...there’s a lot of job posting that won’t explicitly say “urban planner” but when you look at the description it uses a lot of the skills we learn in school

I haven’t met anyone that went through this path so your video reassured me. Trying to get back into the profession directly. I worked for a poor rural county and my bosses were very difficult, the region was very undeveloped, and I got fired :( Currently I work as a GIS person, but using it for I.T. purposes is not really my skillset and it is too hard! Hopefully, some of the local planning positions will give me a chance!

University applications are due in less than a month and I've been feeling so lost on what I want to do. I literally came across urban planning yesterday and I kinda love it? Yes! I love your videos! I am studying urban studies at UIC in Chicago and hoping to get a master's there. Urban planning is so interesting, I am mostly interested in environmental planning and protecting natural resources in cities.
