Agree! Other songs that join this category in my opinion is: Euphoria 2012 Alvedansen 2006 World 2017 We could be the same 2010 Tout l'universe 2021 And last but not least Nocturne 1995 The 7 entries that blows me away with their uniqueness and refinement
2009 had juries and was the best year of the decade. Before the juries half of the entries were trash and joke entries. So no, the juries saved the contest, and that was always meant this way because before the 2000s it was a jury only system.
I love when Eurovision fans scapegoat the juries, when the reintroduction of juries was what made the quality of songs and of the competition skyrocket.
It's crazy how Estonia went from Neto Svet in 2008 that did not qualify, to this masterpiece right after in 2009 that ended in 6th place. Gorgeous song, I really think it should've been at least 3rd place.
This entry is a proof that it is possible to make an impressive perfomance without dances, magic walls, acrobats, naked girls, fireworks and that sort of thing.
@@myharlequinn It's interesting that there's no focus other than the song itself. Certainly, everyone's wearing flattering outfits but the colors are subdued to blend with the backdrop. The stage looks lovely but it's not really a big sensory experience. There's slight swaying but that's more the for singers keeping the rhythm than the audience. There isn't even very much in the way of gestures and emoting -- this performance was all about the song itself. But, maybe since you didn't comment on the point OP was making you already agreed?
Harut Hovhannisyan it is and to me it rivals French language used by Zöe 🇦🇹 2016 Amir Jessy Alma 🇫🇷 2010 2016 2017 and Celine Dion 🇨🇭 1988 in Eurovision
Fairytale is easily the best eurovison song(maybe even the best song) of all time. Rändajada and is it true are up there for sure. That's just about it. No other song really stood out enough for me. Düm tek tek was aight and always on my mind became super famous but I hated it. Nothing else really came out of 2009.
Oh yes it was GREAT! While it is kind of sad that the so many legendary entries slayed each other. Too much winning material in one year. 5 entries, France, Estonia, Iceland, Bosnia-Herzegovina & Norway, all deserved to be Eurovision winners. The good part is that not only we had them there but surpringly enough they all ended up in the top10. Eurovision made me so happy that year.
I just wanna remind everyone that if this song won, the 2010 show would be in Estonia and the show would’ve been opened with THIS SONG. It would’ve been the best opening to a show of all time
@@user-fj4xw9on4i ekhm, Leto Svet? Irlande Douze Pointe? Century of love? Bad hosts, bad "interval-acts" (what was that wtf) and breaks between performances (rly, on SF1 short film about parties in Serbia before LAST CONTESTANT?!). And don't forget about these postcards... imho the worst year in ESC
It is so enthralling, so alluring. Who can contest that it is better than Fairytale? It is so genuine, so alternative. True winner.6th place doesn't respond to the quality of the sing. So underrated
That's my favourite song from all Eurovisions I have watched since 2004. I had the piece of it on the ringtone for years. Thank you for your beautiful music and language from Ukraine ❤
Мне тоже очень нравиться эта песня . Тоже считаю , что она должна была занять первое место . Я тогда голосовала за эту песню . Русская , живу рядом с Москвой .
That was the year of the violins I guess xD Anyway, voice, instruments, music, song, language (Estonian is one of my favourite-sounding languages in the world), stage colours, everything about it was awesome. Lowkey wish this had won.
I’m not a Eurovision nerd, but this song I _still_ get back to now and then. It’s magic! And I LOVE that they don’t sing in English. Makes it more interesting, actually. Very well done, Estonia!!!! 💚👏 Love from Sweden
All these good songs happened in the same year that's why she didn't won. If Estonia performed this just a year later they could have won by a landside cuz the staging in Oslo is still suitable for this
Eeli Hakala as Serbian...i can tell u Hungarian,Finnish and Estonian are so similar :P I of course cant miss hungarian wenn i hear it😂😂 but wenn i hear for exemple Finnish and Hungarian it looks like you can understand each other :P
@@erenovich48 no. Neither Estonian Hungarian nor Finnish are Altaic. They're Finno-Uralic languages. While Finnish and Estonian are the same root and quite similar to get to know each other Hungarian is Ugric language and until now there're only 3 languages belong to Ugric root. They are Hungarian, Khantian &Mansian(fromRussia)
Finnish and Estonian share many similar-sounding words while Finnish and Hungarian intonation are quite similar to each other. Hungarian vocabulary looks very different nowadays although there are some similar basic words in all of these languages.
I rember when i was 8 years old back then and i was addicted to this song and i was saying things that sounded like the lyrics...2009 Eurovision was the best without a doubt...!!!
This song definitely proves that singing in your own language isn't a burden, but certainly an advantage if you know how to use it. The ESC should really get back to the "must use your own language" rule. It would make it so much more exciting and diverse. I'd rather have a song sung in the native language than in some bad english, as it is so often done these days.
@@escfan2706 That rule is restrictive and only sounds good in theory. The few times that my country sent a song in our native language we finished badly.
RᴀɪɴDᴇᴠᴏᴜʀ Yeah that is a fair point. Having diversity and different languages in Eurovision is great but some Eurovision songs are just way better in English imho.
Unfortunate that rule would benefit Great britain and Irland since their native language is english...most ppl would understand their lyrics...and have no clue about the rest..
It's a song that's one of a kind in all of eurovision, I'm so sad they almost made it in the top 5 but failed and that they didn't win, it's also the Eurovision discord server's winner of 2009 (according to all votes done by hundreds of people)
