I accidentally called the radiator a "hot water heater" in my narration. I'm well aware it's a radiator. It uses hot water, which is why I misspoke. I placed a corrective video annotation in the area long ago, but apparently some viewers are not noticing it. Hopefully this preempts anymore correctors.
*DEMOLISHED*
Exploring an abandoned gorgeous farm house untouched by vandalism with some older furniture and appliances left behind. Everything else was cleaned out, so I had no clues for dates of abandonment.

For those viewers who cannot see the correction annotation at the 2:52 timeline, I meant to say "radiator". Because it uses hot water to heat, I accidentally called it a water heater. When walking around an abandoned house with a camera to my face looking through a tiny view finder at the same time checking my footing and safety, all the while narrating, it's easy to misspeak sometimes.

3:07. Inside the medicine cabinet, at the very bottom of the frame there is a small slit in the back of the cabinet. This is a little slot for disposing of razor blades. The blades just fell into the wall.

It would appear that the house had been added on to a few times. Looks at though the original part of the house was built in the 1800's but the newer part was the 1950's. It also looked as though the whole house was updated now and then in parts.Who ever lived here did love this house and kept it up. But I just get this sinking feeling that the last member of the family that lived there for years either died or was put in a home, and the relatives have no interest in the place.

The stair trim and the baseboards and door frames are gorgeous, there is so much of this house that could be reclaimed and re-used! Plumbing and appliances look like the 60's but the house has many features of the late 19th Century/early 20th century, i.e., the colored glass in the front entryway and the door knobs on the bedroom doors.

A little trick on determining when a house was built, Lift the lid on the toilet tank and it will have a date it was made stamped into the under side. Jim
@crosmas
@crosmas 9 лет назад
That works if the house wasn't built in 1850 and the toilet put in in 1920, lol.
@JimForeman
@JimForeman 9 лет назад
Jamie Crosmas You are right to a point but in structural archeology, one looks for the simple things first. It takes a bit more effort but metal nails changed about every 25 years.
@crosmas
@crosmas 9 лет назад
Yeah that's what I was saying, a toilet lid isn't going to date any house older than about the '20's to the '60's in some cases.
@JimForeman
@JimForeman 9 лет назад
***** True, but the toilet is about the last thing that people replace. But it is a good indication for any house built in the past 50-60 years.

Jim Foreman I'm no expert but I'll bet that steel I-Bean was put in to shore the sagging original log floor beams. Those logs were prolly in the oldest part of the building. I'd say if you want to date that structure, that would be a good place to start. Looks 1800's or older to me from what I could see....

What a beautiful old house...no sign of kids but there must have been a woman living there at sometime with all the frilly curtains maybe and elderly couple that both are gone now...I don't understand why people just let places like this go to hell it would not take a lot to fix this beautiful old place up maybe it's in probate hung up in the legal system with relatives fighting over the estate. When I was a kid we moved to and old farm house that had a wood burning stove I remember helping cut wood for it...

Definitely a nice period home. Shouldn't take much at all to fix it up and be livable within a short period of time and a little bit of work. Wall paper> Gone most definitely with a new coat of paint. Furniture> Restored. Pool Table> Upstairs, out of basement into Family Room. Roof> Completely redone. Ceiling> Completely redone in sheetrock. Plumbing> A little bit here and there. Electrical> Brought up to code.. It's just good to see no real vandalism has taken place. Excellent job Tiki.. Have a great day.

Ok I can help you clarify some things. First the wood stove in the kitchen. Fire compartment is that square door right under the stove top. The compartments right below it would be where they had fires as well for the oven the lower pan was for ashes which you would clean out as they built up. You got the radiant hot water heat right and it was a water heater in the back basement room. The cement thing is a cistern which they no longer had in use. The stuff coming off the ceilings is actually horse hair plaster the sheet rock you referred too came later. It was mixed up and smoothed onto the lathwork you saw upstairs. You first big room was the living room..second smaller room was the formal parlor....smallest room downstairs was the formal dining room. The upstairs room you referred to as a attic was the servants quarters that's why there were stairs into the kitchen from there. The other door to upper hall would seldom been opened unless family wanted them at night. The pipe you saw in that room actually was the kitchen stove pipe which was what heated the servants quarters. The house from what I seen of the structure was build in the late 1800's I would say between 1885-1895. So the steel beams are a much later addition due to moving or repairing of foundation. The horsehair plaster...lath....and floor beams you see in the basement would all indicate that. The rooms at the back were a much later addition the pipe you saw went to a stove that would have only heated that addition. Yes the shed area would have been for the wood. The mold you see upstairs is from leakage in the roof and why the horsehair plaster was coming down. The open pipes you would see in each room upstairs was to let heat from the downstairs area to the upstairs. My old farm house had ornate grills. My theory why its abandoned would be last owner had no next of kin or they did but it became too costly to maintain and rent out. Structural wise it still looks good and could be salvaged and restored if the roof is repaired soon.

I just can't understand why people would leave (almost like they were being chased out). There are so many homeless families today... why hasn't anyone moved into it? The only explanation I can think of is that it could be haunted, or perhaps something terrible happened there!

@prairiewanderer5040
@prairiewanderer5040 10 лет назад
tycobb83 Could be, I've seen that a lot of times and usually the new "owner" destroys the farmstead to lower the property taxes. I've seen other cases where the home belongs to an elderly couple and when they passed their heirs don't live in the house and they won't sell it. Then unfortunately the homes decay until they're worthless and then destroyed. This is a beautiful old home and it's a shame it wasn't rehabbed and used.

That was probably an upscale home in it's time. Guess something happened with the old folks and nobody else wanted to live there. The cost of heating something like that in these days would be uneconomical. Judging by the old furniture and stove, this house has been vacant for many years. It IS odd that it hasn't been vandalized. Any history on the house and property? Thanks Pam, this one was a real treasure.
@cortrichards8179
@cortrichards8179 10 лет назад
Excellent! The house looks like it dates from the 1850's to the 1870's when it was built. I can tell by the way it is built with the steep pitched roof, the brick work, the woodwork, the stained glass, the very thick walls and the old rubble rock or field stone foundation in the basement/cellar. I can't believe how pristine the woodwork is inside! Never been painted, which many did in the 1940's and 50's ruining the beautiful woodwork. Nice to see the people who lived there never painted the beautiful woodwork on the steps, bannister, spindles and around the front door. You can tell the house was added on to at some point but originally would have just been the brick part of the house. That old stove in the kitchen is very kool! You should go back and snatch it up before the house does get vandalized. I seriously hope it does not, though. It's such an historic and beautiful old home. They sure don't make them like that anymore, which is why I always have preferred to live in Victorian era homes and farmhouses like I do now. I just love that woodwork and the stained glass at the front door entrance and upstairs where the old veranda / widows walk is. That house could really be fixed up beautifully and what a showplace it would be, eh? Just imagine it all restored to it's original state with gorgeous gardens out front and all around. You should maybe try to do some research on the house and see when it was built ( I still say 1850's to 1870's at the latest ) and who built it and owned it over the years. There might be a very interesting history behind that place. I'm betting there is, too. I would love to walk around the outside with my metal detector and see what we might find too. It does look as if someone has been there though trying to maybe fix it up a bit or something what with the new fuses in their boxes and the tools and light bulbs and the various power tools needed to sand stuff down, etc. Funny to see all that really 1950's, 60's and 70's furniture all around the house too. I'm sure someone likely took all the original Victorian furniture that the house would have had originally. Anyhow, I'll stop droning on and on. Thank you for sharing this with us all!!! I absolutely LOVE exploring old deserted homes and farm houses, etc. and we have a lot of them here in Montana. Wish I could join you on your excursions! Take care and thanks again.

@GrannyLaLa1960
@GrannyLaLa1960 7 лет назад
First of all we have what..100000 times more the population than you do? Second you have extreme weather in areas that keep people from living there and doing things. Next we have a lot of illegals and refugees that have been welcomed in the past 8 years that have doubled and tripled our crime rate without using guns. Recently a car and knife was used. We are a bigger melting pot and unfortunately our government and liberals have decided to allow everyone to do whatever is right in their own sight. Last there's many of these homes that Tiki shows in Canada that have been vandalized. Check out her cat lady home for one. It was ransacked many times before burning down. How did it burn down? Maybe your tiny bit of the snowy area isn't much in the way of crime but there are areas that are considered high crime areas in both Canada and the USA along with other countries.

That place had to have been beautiful in it's prime. Loved the stained glass. It looked like there might have been some housing across the road, so that might help deter vandals. The TV looks like late a late 80's to mid 90's model. My best guess would be it was taken for tax purposes. If the foundation is good that would be the kind of place worth fixing up.

True as it is, a big part of me wants to move from CA back to Detroit to live in these beautiful homes. Ohio and Michigan are great places to live. We had diversity and common love for the mid west. I would love to see Detroit make a come back. They just need to kick the Dem party out of there.

geologist100 What on earth are you talking about? Michigan has a Republican for governor, the Senate and House their have very large Republican majorities. Just like in Kansas you invariably find that where Republicans have control of the state government prosperity does not follow, as it takes taxes in order to invest in the future of a place, with things such as infrastructure and education and that is the antithesis of the modern Republican party. Nothing like Eisenhower, a Republican of integrity who invested heavily in America, in things like the highways system, when taxes were super high and America was prosperous. Republicans now are all totally against any sort of investment and are always talking down the country and are all negative, angry and scared, and are all about just making the rich richer. Sad. They don't seem to believe in an America that can do great things. And no, starting very il advised wars is not a great thing.

This is the old Morris family farmhouse! Run fer yer life! Haunted to tha hilt!!!!! The specters embody preying mantis, termites, old stoves and mirrors! The back doors on these old houses are always, and I mean always, either open or closed! No one has ever determined why the Morris family left but everyone agrees on one thing, they "did" leave! This movie is sooo spooky! The hair on the back of my neck suddenly sat down as she opened the shed door! How does that circular light always appear just before she starts describing what she sees? And the whole thing goes to another level when You wonder, "Who tha hell is she talking to? Spooky!!!!!

very nice house pam, it deffenitly would'ent take much to bring it back, and the fire box in the stove is at the top the bottom is where you clean out the ashes. there seems to be more than one stove in this old house at 11:26 looks like the hole in the floor is for a pipe for another stove, or is the the living room over the kitchen
@trevorr.eagles5377
@trevorr.eagles5377 5 лет назад
That IS correct about the stove. I grew up in an old farm house where we had a stove similar to this. I used to have to haul out that ash box, and dump the ashes into a metal can that we had. On the middle of the door is the heat thermometer indicator.
