There was a radio station called Szabad Europa in Germany, and a dissident Hungarian hosted the Sunday afternoon program. I heard the first Uriah Heep songs there! A love that continues to this day, because they not only wrote simple songs ahead of their time, but also composed pieces, e.g. Salisbury! Well, the point is that my first two recordings of Uriah from the "Géza Ekecs" program/German radio/ were Gypsy and Come Away Melinda on a cassette tape recorder with a microphone! Here it was decided, and I started bringing the LPs to Hungary in 1972-73

The sheer power and the deceptive simplicity of this song make it a timeless masterpiece... Between this album, Black Sabbath's first album, Deep Purple's In Rock and Led Zeppelin's third album ( and many others ) 1970 was a good year 🙂🙂🙂

I must say Gypsy's riff was so memorable for me that it's really brought me to heavy rock sound when I was about 7 in early 70s. Way before AC/DC..The other was Purple's Smoke on the Water. My much older cousins played it and it caught me. I didn't play instrument then so I just hummed it a lot especially when doing something..😅
