So informative and amazing of you to share this because many people me like to own Chromis but don’t have much luck with them at all. Great way to know that we can treat them with these remedies.

Thank you for all that you folks do, priceless! Does UV usage make any difference in the fight against Uronema? - Ed from the Reef Corner
@HumblefishReef
@HumblefishReef 2 года назад
Hi Ed - A UV may help limit transmission of the parasites to other fish; however it won't help a fish already infected because Uronema does not usually drop off like Ich & Velvet. Any parasites that do happen to exit a fish do so inadvertently.

Great video. I have a question regarding Metronidazole, how long does it last in the water? Does it accumulate if added daily? I have dosed my QT tanks with it but only once when I put the fish in. I used Metro tablets 500mg and dosed at a rate of approx 200mg per 100L.

Typically, metro lasts 24-48 hours in the water before decomposing. However, biodegradation plays a large role in this; so the longer a QT is setup (and propagates more bacteria) the faster non-copper medications will degrade. This is why I recommend completely sterilizing your Fish QT every 2-3 months.

@@HumblefishReef cheers that makes sense now. I would also like to say a big thanks. Because the hard work that you have done, and then shared has saved many of my fish. I had a velvet outbreak and thanks to your website saved most of my fish and taught me how to QT my new fish. I now feel much more confident going forward and have skills and knowledge I did not have. I bet I’m one of thousands you have helped. So THANK YOU 😊

How long can Uronema stay on a fish and be "asymptomatic"?
@HumblefishReef
@HumblefishReef 16 дней назад
@@ReefHead Depends on the fish. Most species will only display mild symptoms (occasional scratching) of Uronema, if any at all. However, chromis & anthias will most likely experience outbreaks (red sores) quickly.

@@HumblefishReef Okay thanks for the information. I have a couple of Chromis in my display tank for over 3-4 months now with no signs of anything (look completely healthy). But I was worrying after reading a bunch on Uronema that they could be carriers.

I recently quarantined a bunch of Chromis with Copper Power. The plan was 2 weeks of Copper Power with Prazi in between. I realized after I dosed Prazi, the next day the fishes started dying - they look super lethargic (breathing looked okay or labored, can't say tbh) and they would just 'doze' off to their deaths (like sleeping off and then breathing stops). No visible red marks like shown here for Uronema or any missing scales. The QT size is 15 gallons and I quarantined 12 chromis (too many?). A few days later the die off would stop. I then did a big water change and re-dosed Prazi - - the next day, the die off started again. The QT is heavily aerated with HOB filter and air-stone but is it possible oxygen levels were really low? Even after a big water change the die off continued for the next 1-2 days. In the end on Day 13, not even 1 Chromis survived the QT. My last quarantine was more than a year ago but I used Cupramine + Prazi combo and don't ever recall this kind of die off, so this is the first time I am using Copper Power + Prazi. Copper was checked with the Hanna Copper checker at 2.50 ppm (highest around 2.62ppm but never less than 2.50ppm) and was raised slowly for 7 days. Oh, the Prazi has expired in 2020 (but from what I heard Prazi _can't expiry_ ?).

@Ken Lu Were you using an ammonia alert badge to keep tabs on that??
@kenlu7261
@kenlu7261 2 года назад
@@HumblefishReef I didn't use the ammonia alert badge. I only did WC weekly (~70-80%) during quarantine (with copper measured new water). I was under the impression that the QT is fully cycled as I ghost feed where there are no fishes and did a big water change prior to getting in new livestock to quarantine. So could this be the issue, ammonia poisoning? If that's the case I will definitely keep tabs on ammonia with the alert badge in future.
@HumblefishReef
@HumblefishReef 2 года назад
@@kenlu7261 Ammonia is probably the #1 killer of fish in QT. So, I advocate for active monitoring even if you have a cycled QT.
