You can dress up the last one (# 5) by twisting the two braids into a two-strand rope braid: two strands, coil them both one direction and wrap around each other the other direction as you go.

Hi Lacey, I believe as long as it looks natural and professional and fits the description in the hair regulation wigs shouldn’t be an issue. (And likely no one would even notice) I would double check the rules, by googling ‘AFI 36-2903’ and ctrl + f for hair. 🤍
Can someone please help me!! Are pony tails allowed in BMT I’ve been told they don’t accept the new regulation. I have short hair and the ONLY way I can get it all back is in the SMALLEST of pony tails. Will I be allowed to wear my hair like this? Has anyone had girls in their flight have very small pony tails. PLEASE HELP
Oh that’s a great question! I would say a regulation is a regulation, so yes it should be accepted. However training environments are known to have stricter rules. I would need to get in touch with someone and confirm. I will say though when I went through basic training girls who had cut their hair short-by the 6th week it grew out and they were tying them into those mini-tiny ponytails and it was accepted. When are you scheduled to go? 😊

So, girls who had mini pony tails were given the "ok" for those? Because thats basically what I have right now with my hair when it is all pulled back. I asked a reddit forum if pony tails were accepted since the new AFI change and everyone who replied said BMT does not accept the new regulation which blew my mind... but if I can't make a bun with the hair that I have, at least I am able to pull it all back and out of the way in some sort, just not in a bun style. Thank you again for your reply, and if you find out any new info or confirmation please let me know! I would greatly appreciate it! :)
Update: no one answered me on this question, but I don’t like to leave people hanging. I’ve been around enough to know that one of these two things will happen: Scenario A) You make your hair neat as possible (in as little time as possible) and no one says anything about your tiny pony Scenario B) *someone* makes a huge deal out of it 🙄 and you have to trim it to be collar grazing length and it falls in your face during all of basic. You graduate and it grows back, you’re no longer in basic so no one cares about a tiny pony. Best of luck ladies I think you will do great! 🇺🇸
I was always under the impression that military women could wear their hair in any style they wanted as long as it: was secured, not past the collar, didn't show under the front of a hat, and didn't interfer with wearing a helmet. Am I right or have the regs changed?
