@@rossr6616 I didn't say Trump was the first, only that it is not wise to depend on another country for your survival, be that military, food or energy. Europe needs NATO and strong military forces so that they can take care of themselves, that way any US support is just that - support.

You cannot take 70 years of the US taking command in Europe and in US policy to set up European bases and US nuclear bases in Europe and then say Europe was depending to much on the US. The 2% NATO guide line was obviously a problem, however the US in past policy led other Counries to be dependent and slack off. Just curious do you actually know how many US troops and bases the US has through out Europe, I do and in is mezmorizing. So if the US wants to cut back then they should just announce it and come up with a formula to withdraw over a period of time and turn all these bases and resposibilities over to Europe however I would say that would not be in America's best strategic interest going forward.
