From an old vet here are some survival tips: Yes, your first night will be strange and for some, difficult. Buck up. You are no longer at home so get over it. One day at a time. Don’t take the long view. Deal with today. Don’t draw attention to yourself. Stay in the middle, be low profile. Don’t volunteer. Don’t be a screw-up. Develop military bearing.and courtesy. Show some hustle. Understand everyone goes through this. Basic and BCT are not intended to be a good time. You will survive the gas chamber and your rifle does not kick. Give everything your best effort, especially written tests. Now you are well armed to deal with basic. I’d say “enjoy” but that would be BS. Just deal with it and move on. This is just one hurdle in the Army experience.
@@daxlucero2437 “Do not volunteer” is old school army advice. If volunteering can be to your advantage, go for it, especially if you are interested in a military career. It won’t take long until you gauge military situations.
Joined at 19 10yrs ago and BCT was so fucking easy. I too went to Ft.Leonardwood! I saw my old barracks here too haha! I don’t miss the rubber tire pits. The best part was clearing sadr city and the Drills would be tf outta us during that.
My step grandfather, a WW2 Veteran and retired MSG (was an officer in WW2) gave me this advice: Go along with all the things that will be done to you. Do not take any of the above personally. Learn the lesson(s) and move on. Remember that everyone in the Army passed Basic...
I’m taking that Mos to. I did Marine Corps bootcamp. You’ll be ok. I’ve seen people who barley ran mile and half under 15 min. Or did 3 pull ups. Came out doing 3 min 22 min and 12 pull ups. You’ll be alright
I’m a 26yr old leaving June 3rd, 2024 to Ft Jackson as an 25H E-4, this day by day breakdown of when the ACFT’s are given helps me understand just how soon I’ll need to be ready. The rucks as well. Thank you for this free info
@@BLGNDRY365 I guess I’ll see you there👌🏾 if I don’t, I hope you have a successful run through basic with no injuries and stay mentally focused man Best of luck
Biggest tip for anyone army or not. DONT MAKE THE SAME MISTAKE TWICE. It’s ok if you mess up it’s normal but if you mess up the same thing again or a third time then it’s a deficiency which will require more negative attention towards you.
Don’t over think guy. Shits easy just do everything at 110% and look forward to each chow & you’ll be solid. That was 10yrs ago. I know for a fact it’s easier now .
Always give 110% future warriors. You will be tested for hardship for sure. If you grew up hard, you shouldn’t have any issues. If you grew up soft, you gonna be challenged. Long hours, long days, and long wait time. Stay focus and you will be alright. I lost 10 pounds and I learned how to eat right thru the chow hall. My first time eating grits, sausage gravy and cornbread. Till today, every time I eat those food, it reminds me of basic training dining facility. I will pray for all future Soldiers for their safety and success. This video is very informative. Thank you for this. In God We Trust 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Graduated May 2022, actually from Leonard Wood where these videos were taken from. If you're going soon and nervous, just keep your heads up and take it a day at a time. It's gonna be slow as hell early mornings late nights and long days with little sleep but if I can do it, so can you. Also the dfac over there at Leonard Wood is fire :D
Man thank you so much for this video. It helps take the edge off. I'm shipping to bct this Monday at leonard wood. I'm 27, never ran a mile in my life and I barely made the body fat index required for enlisting (25%). I know it'll be hard but as long as the drills don't give up on me I will not give up either. See you after I'm done
I graduated from basic training in Oct/1978. I will admit that Basic Combat Training is a lot more complex than when I went through. Soldiers get a lot more out of it today. Probably have a bigger sense of accomplishment after they complete it.
Thank you for this video! I’m Utah National Guard, 13B. Headed to BCT and AIT at Fort Sill on May 21st. I’ll turn 32 on May 20th and am excited for this new opportunity. Again, this video has been great for me in my preparation and knowing what more I can do before I leave. 💪🏽 Thanks again!
Just got out of basic. This video was incredibly accurate. It gave me a great idea of what to expect and how to handle it. The only thing different is that my forge was 4 days instead of 3, and we did nic on the first night instead of the last.
Thank you for this information. My son is a few weeks into BCT. This gives us a real life look at what he's doing. This video is very informative and laid out well.
As a 21 year USAF veteran, in ended my career as an AF MTI. My son recently enlisted for Army Infantry. He leaves May 6. Thank you so much for this video. Really helps me understand what he can expect. Spot on sir! 🫡. Nice work.
Thank you so much this video was extreamly helpful, I was nervous but the video broke it down very easily and im no longer nervous. I ship out on March 12, 2024!
Im 39 Shipping out April 1st 2024 MOS 91c. 374th engineering co (sapper). Im looking forward to this life changing process. I've been training for a year now. Trying to improve my 2 mile times before i ship out.
Me and my company are in this video! Yippee! Anyways, basic training and AIT aren't that bad. The whole thing is really not as bad as you may make it out in your head. Good luck!
@@SkunkFracker Okay right on.I apologize ,times have changed my Drill Sgts. We're not cool like that except maybe one. They were all business Im not sure they would of talked to us if they seen us after BCT LoL. Thanks for your service Drill Sgt. And molding our young men and women into the soldiers of tomorrow.
@@JimD410 I’ve only ran into a few after they graduated. Being a drill within a “small” MOS I knew I’d work with them again. I didn’t want them leaving under the impression that I wouldn’t help them in the future.
@@datboilee6859 I didn’t do too well on the ASVAB so I’m going to study and retake to get better jobs but within the next couple of months I’d assume .
Thanks bro i just got my medical papers through now im going to Sacramento for my physical and ive been worried about basic, but as youve broken it down and made me understand it makes me feel a whole lot more at ease for whenever i get to it. Thanks man.
I'm leaving June 11th for the army reserves, 31B. I'm doing the split program and this video made my worries about bootcamp much better. I'm legitimately looking forward to the transformative experience I'm about to go through.
This looks like this was taken in Fort Leonardwood, MO. I was there for my BCT from 10/2/2023 to 12/7/2023. I went to AIT for CBRN (74D), and I went back to Leonardwood for additional training. My company did not have to wear those circles as our patches.
Very different from my basic training in 1982- we had our weapons with us at all times, not just on the range. And our drill sergeants were, for the most part, Vietnam combat vets.
Man things sure have changed since I went to BCT in 1985...we had yellow phase red phase blue phase...yellow was about 4 weeks...and to me that's where we were messed with the most...alot of DNC..alotta push-ups because that seems when we messed up the most...red phase was intense but that's where we qualified with the m16...still alot of push-ups and pt...but seemed like it was more motivation than punishment...then blue phase more combat readiness...grenades m60 and other weapons...final pt test and getting ready for graduation
Thank you so much for this insightful video! I enlisted as Active duty 35W transitioning to 35P as a mandarin linguist. My ship date is July 7 for Fort Sill, Oklahoma (3 weeks after I graduated high school) so I’m feeling kinda nervous with it coming so soon. What I love most about this video is the analysis and commentary on every event and it’s nice to know that a lot of my fears (of heights and the gas chamber) really aren’t as scary as I make them up to be! Hopefully all goes well and then I can go to the DLI :)
Great video. I went through Basic at Fort Benning in 2002 and a lot of things with BRM have advanced. Great update. My son is leaving for Fort Sill next month. Glad he will still get to do the traditional stuff like Pugils and the Gas Chamber. AATW!
...."Left! MY HOME! ..." ..TO join the Army... ...Left my Homie... To join Army... ..And the Day..... .came back home.... To find her... With another Jodie.... So left that home.... .....To join the...Army! "Hoo-Ah!"
Shipping out April 16th. National Guard 31B (MP). Fort Leonard Wood for OSUT. This video has helped me learn what to expect and hopefully be ready for basic.
This video really helped me understand what to expect!! I’m shipping to fort Jackson on the 30th of April and I’m a little nervous but like I always say we have to finish what we started so wish me luck.
It mostly just a smoke and mirrors mind game with the drill sgts. Just do your best and you'll be fine. Get to AIT, and thats when the fun starts. Years later and I still hang out with my old AIT buddies ! Good luck.
Man, youre not gonna believe how easy it is. Just remember to listen,The DI's are gonna teach you the basic stuff and itll be second nature before you know it. Last thing its all about the teamwork not just you alone..Listen,Listen,Listen!!!!
way overweight at the moment but I have about 5 months to get right. This video by far was the best to prep me for how to get ready and what to get ready for. I expect I will be the old man at 28 going in lol appreciate the video!
The worse part of Basic was the weather 100%. I thought i was going to actually die freezing to death multiple times...we made little fires in our fox holes..
Thank you for the video it will help me a lot during BCT, shipping out August 19th for Fort Jackson. Only thing I am really worried about is not being as physically fit (skinny person).
Went to Leonardwood BCT, 1990. We had the cattle cars. Soon as we crossed the tracks from reception, the DI went to work. I like to watch these Basic training videos to keep up on my own training. In this age, remembering it might be useful.
It was Ft. Benning for Basic/AIT (11B), Air Assault (Ft Campbell), Jump School (Ft. Benning), Ranger Indoctrination, Pre Ranger, Ranger School. Never stops 13 yrs of pain.
@@itzromario too easy, I shipped out Dec 27th and was at reception until Jan 02 and graduated March 07, first few days at basic training suck esp the first night. The smoking session was definitely smt else but just keep your chin high and spirits higher bc you’ll make it through. A lot of bonding moments with the platoon. You hate it when ur there and can’t wait to leave and when u leave it feels unreal. I’m at fort Sam Huston rn but I was in 3-60th BN river raiders. Also cold asf in the winter they left our asses outside for like 3 hours at reception.
Best tip I can give is don’t try to be the tough guy or the know it all guy. The number 1 thing that was told to me C Co 3-10 was the fastest way to leave was to graduate. It’s going to be hard some days and it’s going to suck some days but remember why you joined! I promise you it gets easier ( depends on MOS and duty station and or unit) get everything you can out the army!! Utilize your TA ( If active) go to any and every military school possible and lastly right place right uniform and show up 15 mikes prior good luck
Good afternoon US 🇺🇸 military am Joseph okumu from Kenya am based in Nairobi Kenya I always admire this job to join the US 🇺🇸 military I always follow on RU-vid and Facebook and Instagram and tiktok just so much admirable my heart always desire for this job to serve USA 🇺🇸 am 36 as per now by March 23 I will be 37years old can I be taken I long for this job imagine
Back in 2020 when COVID was a real bad thing I got through in-processing at 30TH AG at Fort Benning. The day I was supposed to go to my training unit we got sent to a quarantine camp. I spent 3.5 months at 30TH AG and never even hit my training unit before something happened and I got medically separated. Here I am about to Go back to MEPS for 68W and I’m really nervous to go back to BCT. I drove truck for a bit and got really out of shape 😭
My husband just left for Fort Leonard Wood too. Flew out on 1/16. I had no idea arriving at 3am in the morning to the base was a normal thing. We're in Houston, Texas and we're having weather alerts for several days. I thought his flight had just been delayed. Wish we had watched all these videos together before he left..
watching this has helped get a better understanding of how basic will work out so thank you for this lol, ship out to sill in june cant wait for the heat to kick my ass
Leaving jul 29th, 2024! National guard 92A planning to join the AGR program. I’m not nervous about the yelling and the pressure from the drill sergeants im more worried about the physical part. I’m very out of shape. I have been to drill 1 occasion and although the physical part was hard it was super fun! I have to go to the weight loss program before BCT so I’m praying that will prepare me a bit for BCT. A little nervous but more excited than anything!
