I am german. We are told, if you do something, make it good or let it be. Do not care about speed or profit. That is the difference.

The real reason is education! Back in Days were Literacy was a problem, Germany went for it. Free school, free university, Knowledge, Education is accessable to everyone, thats the reason.

realy? I thought it was the competition btw. European Nations to be ahead of each others in any aspect just to laugh at the one who is not so far. There was no European Union , there was hate and no trust in each others.

There's a huge advantage of the german region: its richness of natural fresh water supply and its location in central europe with natural boarders (north&east sea in north, alps in south). You can tax any economic route crossing through, which brings wealth. And water is imo even bigger. We have so much water to even make use of water power, so food supply was made by some for many. This way, creativity of the few geniune people could broke through and opens work time for invention. Wealth makes science financal quite unindependent. In a world, where every invention is still to be made, this cycle fuels kind a itself

It's fascinating to me how someone that is making a living out of talking into a microphone is fascinated with somebody making a living out of blowing air through a horn.

I don't think Germany had a rocket laboratory and manufacturing in Berlin. It was in Peenemünde, population 350. Peene is a river, münde means mouth.

@@Jensn1337 what do you mean by "both" wrong? What was wrong? You gave no facts/counter-arguments. Where was the rocket lab/manufacturing in Berlin? Was there no one in Peenemünde? Is Peene not a river? Was the population not 350? Doesn't Münde derives from Mund=mouth? If not, what's the real etymology?
@morbvsclz

Yeah, a lot of BS here. Germany were not even working making a bomb, but just on theoretical stuff. There were no rocket factories in Berlin. V1 Peenemünde, V2 (actual rockets) developed there and later mainly manufactured underground in Nordhausen. V2 was the basis for the space programs of both the US and the USSR and they took any scientist involved they could their hands on. And that's maybe the weirdest thing. How they were hugging each other and celebrating their victory as friends, while the leaders East and West already knew who their next enemy would be and were working on getting ahead in the potential next big war to come. Humanity should be very luckly that next war never came (so far).

i'm sure some has to do with the things they mentioned. germany is in the middle of europe. it is a crossroads, meaning trade runs through it anywhere. but at the same time there are possible enemies on all sides. good reason to build castles and fortresses everywhere. to protect the wealth you need good fortress builders, so learned people. they secured lots of wealth through trade and stuff which leads to opulence, and gave rise to the age of poets and thinkers. that held on for a few centuries and knowledge became a highly regarded thing and produced lots of world renowned scientiest, musicians, writers and such. after the industrial revolution germany put more focus on teaching people how to read and write then any other country. that lead to highly skilled workers and of course later on lots of engineers and mathematicians. so tl;dr (threat of) war and trade lead to those engineers. but that is just my speculation.

Hi, German engineer here... “Hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard.” Same in engineering. This is not an art (even if some see themselves as an artist). It is hard work. Structure, brain, no stomach feeling and again structure. Order each single topic in impact factors. Work on the once with the highest impact first and so on... Creativity is just 10%. From that spot on the one who works in the most structured way will win. Follow the rules... this is why Germany.

The secret of Germany was just that the the industrialization started in Europe and Germany was big and close to England too. Also they had national recourses, which they could focus on instead of colonialism advantages. You could also argue that the Netherlands are very good at engineering or nowadays many other countries like China, which is now bigger and better

I think the big difference is that the country "Germany" has a very long history with failure and success.
@itsmebatman

They are guessing wildly, because they know little about German history. The real reason was, that the book press and the enlightenment lead to people writing and reading a lot of books. And through that they influenced each others ideas. That's why Germany had so many brilliant scientists. And the engineering came from that too. They looked at the problems that existed and tried to come up with solutions to them. It is really not so different from the Brits. Those went through the same cycle.

Moin, Mace! I found this: Julius Robert Oppenheimer was born in New York City in 1904, the son of Jewish immigrants who came to the United States from GERMANY and became prosperous by importing and trading fabrics. (His name Oppenheimer is already german!!!) 🥸 Btw: You almost don't want to mention it, but this comedian's hairstyle (which is reminiscent of "earlier times") is worn by many young (mostly Muslim) "fellow citizens" here in Germany! 😶‍🌫🤔Kind of interesting! But hey, “fashion” repeats itself! ...The haircut is also good for hairdressers because then you have to get a cut often! 😅✂💰

But one thing it's for sure, he dislikes Germany, or Germans very much and nobody knows why besides himself. Some years ago, I came in contact, with a Jew from Finland. It seems, that this women, try to make the Germans, the most evil people in world history. She tried to blame the Germans for the Spanish Flu, at the end of WWI. But everybody knows, that it started in the US. How do you handle, with such guys? I realy don't know...
