The creepiest thing by far is a baby born laughing. That’s got to be like... all of them, right? Because most babies cry after being born. Like immediately. Cedric W Still no guarantee you’d be able to kill them. They’re faster and have had years to plan their attack. You saw how fast they took out the entire white family. Unless you have a gun glued to your cock 24/7 even when you’re at home late at night in a dressing gown. Plus how fast would you react to recognise your doppelgänger and your first instinct is to shoot an exact copy of yourself. Obviously some people did succeed as their were helicopters flying over the line in the ending, unless those helicopters were from other governments.

Honestly that's the least of the plotholes in the film; start asking questions and the entire thing falls apart. I think the film works best if you try to think of it as like an old fairytale or parable where the message is more important than the story actually making sense. eg. Little Red Riding Hood; it shouldn't make sense that a wolf is able to secretly replace the grandma without anybody really noticing; but it is important to the message as the story was originally intended as a metaphor warning young girls to avoid rapists and pre-marital sex; both of which are represented by the wolf.

There is no "REAL VERSION" of Jason! Both he and Pluto are half breeds (half tether and half human). Jason gave his mom (clone Adelaide) that look bc he now knows his identity and his mom's unlike his dad and his sisters. The reason why Jason lacks rhythm is bc he inherited clone qualities from his mom (clone Adelaide).

The Jason theory is flawed because if he did get swapped how does one year in the tethered world make him become animalistic..and on the flip side how does one year in the SURFACE world teach the tethered version speech. Lupita had to go to years of therapy to learn speech.

The son is a product of a tether and regular person. This would explain why he's weird. The tethered version of the son is also half regular and half tether. This explains why the sons connection with his tether is strongest. They're the same. Wouldn't be much of a twist if they were swapped because it wouldnt matter. They're the product of the same thing. And if he's a swapped out tether why can he talk? Makes more sense that he's unique in the sense that he's from both worlds, essentially. The mask may represent this fact in some way or something else entirely, Idk.

@@TruYu maybe it's how young the boy is. The older a person gets the more experiences they have which would lead to more opportunities for your tether to resent you. Jason is young and aside from burned face they seem very similar. If anything it shows how we are more of a product of nurture versus nature. Our surroundings and experiences/friends and direct family mold is into who we are. I for one believe in personal accountability and that choices define who we are ultimately and that even someone born into a bad situation can get themselves out with the know how and dedication. Although learning proper values can be difficult with parents who think they are victims and claim the same for you. Anyway this comment isn't about that though. I might know why Jason wears the mask. I think he is compelled to wear the mask because his connection with the tether is so strong he feels the need to cover his burned face, even though it is not his face that is burned. Yo ken let me know if you think that's right I'm just spit-balling here. :D

They weren’t snapping off beat, they were snapping on the upbeat. Which is even more symbolic that he could’ve been a tether because conventionally, people clap on the downbeat. They snap on the second half of the note hinting they are the other side/part of the same person/note.

I think the real explanation for why Jason is "different" is he is more strongly "tethered" to his doppelganger than the others, so the thoughts and feelings of his doppelganger bleed into his mind and psyche affecting his behavior and personality.

Many of the tethered mirrored the actions of the real ppl. The roller coaster scene, every scene at the boardwalk showed that. Jason learned his shadow mirrored him in the closet. He's not tethered, but his shadow probably was trying the magic trick underground and burned himself.

I actually like hearing the movie explained to me because it makes it less scary. I also watch the making and bloopers of movies afterwards as well because it prevents me from constantly thinking about it at night and having nightmares about it.

Try hereditary, it’s another horror film with a satisfying deep lore. Hereditary and Us are my two favorite horror films right now. I would also recommend the witch, but that’s a slower burn than hereditary, and can be off putting if you’re not into pre 1800s themed horror. But I swear I’m tellin u hereditary is some good shit, just remember it’s half family drama/half horror

There's no Tether like behaviour though. The Tether just don't have the same upbringing. Because they lack certain opportunities they didn't have ability to talk and possibly even write however they are exactly like their counterparts. So it would reason that Tether like behaviour due to being birthed shouldn't matter. This is exemplified simply by the fact that Red took Adelaide's place and assimilates into the above world. So even if you were to argue that the children are half Tether, they aren't in the same situation as those below so it wouldn't affect their speech and behaviour.

I agree Pluto and Jason were switched before the movie took place. At the end he is looking at his mother wondering if it was safe for them with respect to their secret. Mom reassures son that it is OK and he put down his mask carries on as "normal". There are other clues, but in this scene it is all in the face. I hope to see an interview with Evan Alex some time in the future for clarity because he had to know the context of the scene in order to act it out.

Jason was not replaced. Here's the reason. Red is good at ballet, Pluto is good at fire trick, Umbrae is good at running, Then Adelaide is bad at ballet, Jason is bad at fire trick, Zora is bad at running, You can see both underground and surface kids inherited their respective mom's bad or good talent. We can see that Adelaide and Jason are both bad at their talent so Jason was not switch. And also, Pluto's face burned coz while Jason was always failing to light the lighter, Pluto was always successful burning his face in the process since tethered people just copy the surface people's movement.
