Thanks Marwan for your perspective! I agree with you that the US has a crrlucial tole in bringing about a ceasefire in Gaza. From my perspective, as a humanitarian, three things need to happen in Gaza immediately to end this genocide: 1.. A comprehensive and permanent ceasefire. 2. Unhindered access into Gaza for humanitarian aid as famine is already present in the north of the enclave and is spreading south, according to the head of the World Food Programme, Cindy McCain, speaking on Al Jazeera today. (Israel is still blocking aid from entering and being distributed in Gaza by various means. A driver of a truck bringing aid to the north was shot dead by the Israeli military earlier this week, other drivers in the same convoy were injured as well as Palestinian people seeking aid.) 3. No invasion of Rafah under any circumstances at any time!!!! Once the ceasefire is established, these things need to happen to make sure this genocide and violence in Israel-Palestine will never happen again: 1. .Cleanup and rebuilding of thr environment in Gaza. 2. A free and fair election of all Palestinians to elect their new Government which can make a plan for the establishment of a Palestinian State. 3.. All those people responsible for war crimes in Gaza, Israel, the West Bank and East Jerusalem need to be held accountable for their actions at the International Criminal Court. Thank you! Both parties are helping each other to not end the war. Hamas requiring “time to think” about the cease-fire proposal is disingenuous (since they got what they wanted in the negotiations). Netanyahu immediately seized the opportunity to give Hamas a off-ramp (saying Israel will invade Rafah with or without a deal). We’re looking at a conflict both sides don’t want to see resolved. The rest of us are pulling our hair out, and are criticizing each other and oneself, but it’s time to call a spade a spade. Neither side is willing to resolve the crisis.
