The C2 is designed for emergency rescue in peacetime disasters rather than wartime. They deliver food, medicine, tents, blankets, etc. to evacuees in disaster areas. In addition, off-road vehicles (e.g. Land Cruisers), 8-ton trucks, helicopters, and excavators will be transported from Japan for transportation in disaster areas. The scope of the relief efforts includes the Caribbean (e.g., Haiti), South Pacific (e.g., Tonga), Turkey, and Africa (Sudan). It is, so to speak, like Thunderbird 2 in the 1960s British puppet TV drama (International Rescue Team).
I am Japanese and this is a translation using DEEPL, so I apologise in advance for any errors in my English. In Japan, this type of aircraft is called an '飛行艇'. Each of the kanji used in Japanese and Chinese has its own meaning: 飛行 = flight, 艇=boat. So in the Japanese subconscious they may be boats.
Shin Meiwa is produced in Japan...but the original prototype was manufactured in USA in the 1960 to 1970....and already used by the US Navy.....now the USN did not use it anymore.....only the Japan Maritime Defence Force still uses it for search and air sea rescue operations.............. .😊😊😊😊😊😊😊🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
They usually land in or close to harbours behind protective sea walls, not out at sea. Clearly they can't handle high sea states, you're absolutely right, so I think their utility for air/sea rescue is limited. 🙂
@@dalehill6127 On January 23, 1992, US-1A (9081) was dispatched to rescue an emergency ejection pilot from an F-16 belonging to Misawa Air Base, approximately 1166 km offshore from Tokyo. On September 29, Air Force Lt. Gen. John Dolan, commander of the U.S. Forces in Japan and Fifth Air Force, during a visit to Iwakuni Air Base, was reunited with the brave Maritime Self-Defense Force personnel who rescued him more than 20 years ago. General Dolan, who was serving at Misawa Air Base at the time as Deputy Director of Standards Assessment, Flight Assessor, and F-16 Flight Instructor, was flying to Tyndall Air Base, Florida, that day for a "Coronet West 30" deployment. While performing a collision avoidance maneuver, a KC-135 Stratotanker unexpectedly struck him from below. The F-16 in which Lieutenant General Dolan was flying lost control and immediately crashed into the Pacific Ocean. Approximately five hours later, a Maritime Self-Defense Force rescue flying boat arrived on the scene. As we approached the site and began to lose altitude, we could see that the conditions were very difficult because of the high waves." said First Officer Kamouchi. We felt we had to rescue her immediately." Rear Admiral Dolan recounted the incident with the three SDF officers and expressed his heartfelt thanks for saving their lives. Before leaving the tarmac, Lieutenant General Doran shook hands firmly with the three men who saved his life, and gave them a challenge coin as a token of his appreciation for their rescue at that time and for their ongoing rescue efforts.
