A very intense pursuit began when a Deputy United States Marshal recognized the car of a fugitive who had helped kill 5 people in an armed robbery. Immediately after blocking the fugitive's car with his unmarked Explorer, the suspect took off speeding. During the pursuit, a passenger (believed to have been a part of the robbery) opened fire on the deputy, as well as 2 other US Marshals who joined in the chase. Multiple civilian injuries occurred during the pursuit, yet the Marshals got the word to keep pursuing the suspects. After many crashes, the suspects' car became disabled and the passenger opened fire, forcing the original US Marshal to take her down. A fuel line believed to have gone off in the car sparked a fire and an explosion within seconds of the passenger being killed, also killing the wanted fugitive.
