We show some old technology helmets that you can get on the surplus market. I talk about their comfort, their prices, and try to help you decide what you might want to get for your collection. I show you which ones you still can actually use for NODs (i.e., PVS-14).

I'd say I've always liked the m1 and PASGT because of the old-ness, shape, and material (suspension is both great to me)

Wow, I think you're the only one who likes the old suspension system!

I like it cause that's the only kind I have, also, because history is great and so is the military in my eyes

And I also have ways to not have my head hurt if I wear it for hours upon hours if I do, and to me its pretty comfortable

Why do you have the cat eye band turned around backward on your ACH? The squares are supposed to be on the back, not on the front where the NVG bracket is. That said, I have an ACH myself set up in the current US Army configuration with an OCP cover, Ops Core Head-Loc harness, cat eye band, tan NVG bracket, and nape protector pad. I've worn it for several hours with the standard-issue suspension pads, and it was perfectly comfortable; I even forgot I had it on at one point. I hope to collect more helmets in the future, with the M1, PASGT, IHPS, LWH, and a German Stahlhelm being high on the list.

These helmets are great, imo LWH or Pasgt has more coverage than a bump style helmet Most importantly the ears, these can be heavy but id rather have them than a team wendy or ops core tacticool helmet. A lot of guys would get hit in their helmets by bullets and shrapnel from the ear portions and brim this is why it helps to have better head coverage. BLSS kits can help mitigate with the weight and comfort like the setup you have there. Just my thoughts and opinion, yeah bump style helmets are cool but for like special operations like close quarter combat. But i wouldnt trade my LWH for bump style.

So where did you purchase these from? Specifically the ACH?

Everything is from Ebay. Make a saved search with your size and it'll notify you when something is available. Usually within a month or so you should see a pretty good deal. I got mine with the helmet cover + hardware for $212 shipped (including taxes) just this March (2023). If you want to save some money, the LWH can be found for

I CANNOT STAND the ACH helmet. It sits too high on the head, doesn't cover the ears and has no brim. If there was a helmet for dorks and internet geeks that would be it. The PASGT/ LWH look so much more badass in comparison. The way a grunt's helmet should look.

I'm glad to hear we both share the same sentiment. Wish the USMC wouldn't abandon the LWH.

Are their any new production pasgt LWH available? Ive seen some links like tac helmets but idk if theyre legit or not

Not sure actually, LWH is old generation, but I think they still use it. Any reason why you want a new production one vs. a lightly used surplus one?

@@MilSurpCatAppreciate the reply! I managed to find a LWH for a much better price (about 100$) than what I was seeing (around 200-300$) and I was tempted by these shady looking website with so called brand new LWH but the specs were off and the suspension system looked weird. I didn't even know the LWH was even a thing until I saw your video, just PASGT so thank you!

@@jasonvu2466 PASGT and LWH have the same shell design and can be almost indistinguishable at a glance, especially with a cover installed; the differences are in the suspension system and straps. Original PASGT has the old-school 2-point chinstrap like on the M1 steel helmet, whereas the LWH is going to use the newer 4-point retention system that looks more like what you'd see on a bicycle helmet. LWH will also have the Velcro pads for suspension vs the old-school bungee-style suspension on the original PASGT. The Marines are also beginning to phase out the LWH in favor of the Enhanced Combat Helmet (ECH) which is similar to the ACH except with a thicker shell offering a higher ballistic rating.
