I have 2 one was built in 1918 low serial number but i guarantee it was used in ww2. As it had a new barrel from 44 put in. Also have the a4 version weather it was origional or made later has same scope for it as well. Both beautiful pieces of history.
I have a " sportorized" a3 03 & I know a lot of people hate these versions, but that's how I got it from a dealer & it shoots great! I don't know it actually saw any service in combat, the serial number according to the N.R.A. that was put out a few years ago,it was manufactured in 1944 ; it now has a European walnut stock with a Monte Carlo style cheek piece that fits me perfectly!& it has been drilled & tapped for a scope, it has a newer stainless steel bolt that is angled slightly to accommodate the 3×9scope I have on it & it has a 5 round trap door floor plate magazine. It would be interesting to find out if it actually saw any combat service; It is amazing that as old as it is it still works!
Deeply respectful that you showed forgetting hearing PPE. I've mild permanent loss in my right ear from a short exposure while on an exercise in the Army. We had PPE provided but as a SAW humper I chose not to use it. Young and dumb.
I have been pretty religious about PPE since I was young. My dad had hearing loss form his time in the army and working in a factory. I have spent most of my career in factories and I want to keep what I have. Thanks for watching!
Back in the 50's and 60's the 03 was one of the most customized sporting rifles out there. Everyone was selling customization kits for it. I even customized mine which removed the military look.
In 1971, the Navy used the ‘03 at RTC Orlando for drill purposes only. The drill team used a polished and chrome version. We cleaned all the metal parts on the regular rifle with a big ass eraser. LOL
@@fuddlife The eraser removed surface rust and brightened up exposed metal. Recruits never actually “cleaned” the rifles. They were for drill purposes only.
Hello, the statue over your right shoulder, is that a gyrfalcon? Nice rifle, I have a bring back mauser from my dad. From the stamped numbers it's manufactured in Berlin in 1938. The rifle is in great shape except for the barrel. I hope to replace the barrel, the piss has been shot out of the rifle. Everything else is in great shape and a good shooter. U forgot to ask, any idea what you think a fair asking price for the mauser would be?
Its a Red tailed hawk painted antique white. I'm still looking for a K98. They are out of my price range for the most part. Its hard to estimate a price on a riffle I can't see.
Great rifles!!!😍😍😍Aiming and shooting is like the M1, M14, and M16 series sights but the recoil is not bad as long as you keep it tight, concentrate a good sight picture, and squeeze properly with a concentrated sight picture. Extremely accurate rifles.❤❤❤❤
@@fuddlife I out shot a guy once using my friend's Smith Corona A3 against a guy with a H&R M1 with a prestine barrel and zeroed. We shot at a 12×12 inch plate at 100 yards. 8 for 8 to make the shot. He made 6 out of 8 and I made a perfect 8 out of 8 using American Eagle 150 grain FMJ. I won $50.00 that day.
These are great rifles. It is a shame that they couldn't have put the same type of rear sight that was on the M1 Garand. That would have made this an awesome rifle.
I would call it more of a simplified version of the M1903A1 then an "up-grade", great rifles and yes to my mind a much better rear sight than the original M903A1's. Still great quality! One question is yours one of the 2 grove or 4 grove barrels? Again a great video!
I just started a collection of WWII rifles. I only plan to get 6 rifles as the three Axis and Allied countries most previlant in the war. My grandfather brought back an excellent example of a Czech built VZ24 that he personally took off of a conscript he thought. Then another he took off an actual Nazi solder that has all the proper Nazi Germany stamps and so forth. Then i recently purchased a Carcano 91/24, that were also used during the war by the German, Italian and other allied forces in the Mediterranean. So then a Japanese rifle and then it's a US , Brit and Russian rifle. I can expand from there im sure but those are the 6 main countries involved. This is an awesome rifle and i hope ot get a number of American ,firearms of the war? Although it is getting quite costly! :>/ I am really looking for good shooters and the exact correctness of the history ,dosnt matter as much ,since i have the one my Pop's brought back as my historical example. Theres a bit of trench art on the CZ24 and its dated to 1926 ,the 1st year they were issued ot the Czech which ended up as allies of the Germans. Along with Romania and others. In any Case a Garand ,Nagant and No4 MkIII Enfield is what im hoping for. Considering the CMP program for the Garand though? Works out to be a bit less money for a good ,shooting example of one! Too bad some companies arent making reasonably priced ,working replicas? I know id just like to have a good shooting example while the historically correct ones are wall hangers to retain their value! LOL
Wow! thanks for your grand dads service. If they only could speak of the things they saw. I don't think Ill be getting any German rifles. I'm not even close to being confident enough to be able to verify if they are fakes let alone the prices these days. I have some US, Jap Russian and Finland rifles. Not a fan of the Italian stuff and no German. don't
Didn’t Mauser sue them. Think I remember Mauser won but then WW1 began and they didn’t collect a dime. The most common rifle for the US was the 1917 Enfield.
Mauser did sue and did collect some royalties. C&Rsenal has an informative video on the 03 rifles and covers the subject. They do a great job on the deep dive history stuff. Thanks for watching Alan!
I'm just seeing this today 3/28/ 24. Sir you have a nice looking 03 Springfield. You need to consult your Dope .Data of previous engagement.lol I like your Table cloth , I have a Shower curtain with the same pattern.
LOL its actually a bed sheet I picked up at the thrift shop but it serves as a table cloth for my videos too. The Rifle is one of the ones I'll keep until my dirt nap.
@@fuddlife I understand that . I have a British Enfield Sporter 303 . I bought it from a fellow Marine in Maine. 1980 . I won't part with it. The Marine saved me from serious bodily harm or possible death in a Non Combat situation.
