The US Navy Blue Angels’ daring maneuvers with jets hurtling through the air at insane speeds - mere inches apart - never fail to leave us in awe. But did you know that Blue Angels pilots have died on the job? Behind these thrilling performances lies a constant battle for safety. It’s a display where even the slightest miscalculation can have deadly consequences.
So, what exactly happens when the Blue Angels fly too close? Do they risk a crash, or do they have special ways to stay safe?
The US Navy Blue Angels have been captivating audiences with their airshows for quite some time now, and it's safe to say they never fail to impress us. Their breathtaking formations leave spectators hooked by their precision and skill. Among the various formations they showcase, two stand out as particularly captivating: the diamond and delta formations.

What do you think is the most challenging aspect of the Blue Angels' performances: the precision required in their formations, the ability to handle G-forces, or the constant vigilance against potential mid-air collisions? Let us know your thoughts below! 👇

I think the most challenging aspect of their show is the absolute 100% focus and concentration needed--with no time out for rest--all the while being physically pushed to their limits by G-forces that can barely be tolerated

The Blues were my introduction to jets,Naval Aviation,and air shows. When I was ten,I'll be sixty eight in August. I still love to watch them fly. One point to make,they perform military maneuvers,not stunts.

I flew Navy jets and many times in close diamond formation. You just have to give full attention.

Watch the Blue Angel flight done to the song Kickstart My Heart. The #5 plane/pilot shown later crashed. The town has a memorial to the pilot.

Agreed! Sadly some pilots have been lost. Most recently, Captain Jeff Kuss at the Smyrna Tennessee Air Show. I had just seen the Blues perform at the Knoxville Great Smoky Mountain Air Show a couple weeks before. That tragedy hit me pretty hard being so close to home. One day I wanna go see the Memorial Smryna erected in Memory of Captain Kuss.

Here is a question, in Top Gun would it be possible for a f14 Tom Cat to fly with each canopy as close as they did with that Mig 28?

The 7 jet is used for celebrity/news reporter flights. Clearly YOU don't know what you are talking about. P. S.the most dangerous maneuver is the diamond roll in the Yankee set!!

Also, pilots are not going to take their hands off the throttle or control stick during a close airobatic manuever to give a hand signal! If they get too close or something else goes wrong, each pilot must know exactly what to do and do their part to safely break from the fornation and avoud a collusion. Also, except for the two solo pilots that rarely join with the formation except for a couple maneuvers, nearky all verbal communication during a formation is done only by the lead pilot. Even the spoed and tone of his voice, as well as tge actual wrods he says, communicates what he is starting to do and what he continues to do through the entire maneuver.

Why don't the Blue Angel pilots not wear G-suits?
@raptoroptical2991
@raptoroptical2991 Месяц назад
Because their damn flight suits are so tight they don’t need to! Lol
@thewildgoose1979
@thewildgoose1979 Месяц назад
They use a control stick in the middle and rest their arm on their leg to hold the stick in place while doing maneuvers. G-Suits are air bladders that expand and contract to keep the blood in the upper body while pulling high G's. If the G suite is moving on their leg portion it would continually be moving their arm and hand that's keeping their plane if the precise position it needs to be so they dont hit or get out of formation that could cause a mid air collision. They use breathing techniques to help with blood flow instead. The Thunderbird's can use G suites because the F-16 has a side stick to control the aircraft, so it doesn't effect their arm / hand movement.

Some of the info and video used is crap...... Drills???? How about practice. Also they do not use hand signals while flying to communicate. Death defying STUNTS... they dont do stunts. There is only one person that is communicating... #1 Boss. Well , I just wasted 20 min. of my life.

Umm...sorry to inform you, but neither the Blue Angels, nor any other sane flight demonstration teams fly formation in fog or clouds. Not only can they not maintain their accurate visual separation in those conditions, but nobody on the ground would be able to see those maneuvers! The Blue Angels have several demonstrations they train to fly. If the sky is clear, the usually fly their full altitude demo. If skies are cloudy but the ceiling is above I think it's 4000 feet(perhaps 6000), they fly their low altitude demo staying below the cloud layer. If the ceiling is too low, the cancel their demo and wait for clearer conditions. Yes, these jets can fly by instruments in certain conditions, but aerobatics are not flown under IFR (Instrument Flight Rules), only under VFR (Visual Flight Rules). Perhaps you should hire someone who actually knows aviation regulations and technical information to both write and read your scripts. This clearly unknowledgable script gives me no interest in either liking or subscribing yo your channel.
