I moved here as a nurse from Ireland last year Nanelle, and I got back over $12,000 tax refund 😳 I was surprised tbh. My tax bracket is below the poverty line because I moved towards the end of the year (worked just 3 months). I have two kids also. This really helps my savings and I treated myself too😂

Anyone with kids always gets back a big tax check. The more kids you have the bigger the check.

I will say it again AMERICA IS A BUSINESS!! on the surface one would believe this is a good thing its most definitely not. In most countries these taxes are done for you, as its done on CONSENT ! what does this mean? it means governments like the UK's trust their citizens and are not trying to take extra money from them. And the main thing that even most Americans don't know is they have what's called *citizens based taxation*. This means when you leave America you still owe her. So as a US citizen if you move to another country and make nothing in the US, you will still be taxed on what you make abroad. So to everybody wise up and really understand your governments and what they are really doing to you.

A close friend of my mine got an employment offer from Canada 1 year ago, luckily he opened up to me how he became successful. There is tax filing in the UK too, just not done by the individual but HRMC (for a regular employee). Most of the time, they let you know when you owe. I have had tax refunds couple of times from HMRC when I was in school. Ever since I realised that they don’t contact everyone who has a refund, I started calling them after April to find out if they owe me. You can also check this on their site. Everyone’s refund or amount owed is automatically calculated, you just may have to contact them if you’re due a refund. Although sometimes they automatically send a check to your address on file.

Because it works both ways there, and everything is automatic. You will get child tax credits etc automatically it might not feel like a lot because it given to you over the years period. But the key thing you need to understand is they are not looking at your 'personal' income so they can tax it, that means when you sell your car for example you don't owe them money. A good way to understand this is, when you go shopping in the U.K your final price at the till is what you saw on the shop floor. In America you pay more because the whole country in a scam 😅

Married filing separately or married filing together which is better for a couple living together

either way, they will still take the money due, but remember to file separately as married people have limitations. for America you can never cheat the system, even if is 100years they will still take what is due them, so just do the right thing especially with taxe

If you think about it the tax system was set up by British people who left the UK and esb. New England so it is given US tax system is better when it comes to returns . But if you think about it Taxes in the UK are slightly better because it helps in sectors like NHS etc. the system wouldn’t work in the U.S.
