for anyone who’s recently watched this video just so you all know regarding the sound, at this particular time I didn’t have a microphone and hopefully in my more recent videos, you can hear me a little better 💗 thanks you all for your support and feedback!
O Hell ... I was listening to others reactions to this song , 😏 ya a few times today. But anyway I ❤u. You not only know the artist singing but your the only one that knows Quincy!! You made my day😁🌺
Lizzie I know u posted this vlog a year ago.but what is stupid about it??Micheal Jackson and Lionel Richie wrote this song for charity!they raised millions of dollars so that people living in poverty can just get a slight better chance at surviving the challenges in our day to day lives!!
The real boss on this project was Producer Quincy Jones who told all of artists to leave their egos at the door and he got them all to work together for a bigger cause than themselves...
Near the end, in the Springsteen/Wonder duet, if you look closely you'll see Bruce has a tear in his eye. Anyone notice legendary singer and humanitarian Harry Belafonte in the chorus? He got the ball rolling for this project when he was so moved by the crisis in Africa with so many starving and dying in the famine that he sought out a music manager he knew to see about starting an all-star benefit concert. The manager instead suggested a record with top artists singing together. They went to Quincy Jones who, with Michael Omartian, ended up producing the event and its subsequent USA for Africa album, and the single "We Are The World," which featured the gathering of this supergroup. Quincy asked Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie to put together the key song, and then pulled everything together, arranging for all the artists and musicans participating. It was well-promoted and astoundingly successful in raising both awareness of the famine and money for the so-needed relief.
Right about the same time this was recorded for the drought relief effort in Ethiopia they also did Hands across America. Many of the artists who participated in USA for Africa were also involved with that. It was to show how Americans can come together for a common cause ( to fight against hunger and homelessness ) and involved 6.5 million people holding hands in a continuous chain from Battery Park in NY to the RMS Queen Mary pier in Long beach, Ca. They held hands for a solid 15 minutes and it made it into the Guinness book of world records. I remember wanting to do it, but the location was too far to drive from where we lived. I was only 10 or eleven at the time, so...
Great reaction, and to the people who think that it's a stupid song..... It's helped to raise 10s of millions of $, for famine relief. You do better. 💕
Lionel Ritchie did call Prince to do this song. In an interview Lionel said when he called prince wanted his own room to record. Lionel said that it was impossible (since every singer that joined is putting there pride aside to do this group song). So prince just said THEN I'LL JUST DO A GUITAR SOLO. Then lionel just had enough and said I'll just call you later and that was that lol.
Younger people don’t know who those artists are; you’re awesome for knowing! I’ve watched other reactions, yours is great! They have wide eyes not knowing who is singing. Ha! You’re wonderful!
May 1985. I was about to graduate and join the Army. My mom was dying from Lymphoma. We were watching this video and I heard my mom crying; it was during the Tina Turner part. She was on the verge of her own death and shedding tears for the rest of the world. I will never forget that. My last memory of her. She died 11 days after I left for Basic Training.

I know you know most of the artist Lizzie and here's a list of the artist from who had a solo part in order from beginning to end and I edited in a hit song by them by their names so you have a list of songs by them to react to or even listen if you get the time. Happy Holidays to you!
Why would ANYONE consider this song stupid?? It was a beautiful and fantastic collaboration performed by the best musical artists of that time, and arguably all time.
I've listened to this a thousand times, and always try to understand my own reaction. I guess it's because in our current world, people are hating on each other so bad. In that world, everyone is sharing their voices, spirits and souls. Are we ever going to be able to do that again?
The world needs the togetherness that this song created again. The mid-1980s "African Famine Relief Concerts" are legendary and as they were the first ever, they paved the way for the concept of "Disaster Relief/Benefit Concerts" becoming even more popular straight into the 21st century. I love your reaction to this epic song and all the legendary singers/actors that are still here and those that have left this world too...RIP to them. I was born in the early 1960s and it makes me happy to see young folks checking out and enjoying all of the awesome music that I grew up with. A group that I would highly recommend trying out is Playing For Change (PFC).They are a non profit band that promotes world peace through music education/appreciation. There are a lot of "old-school" songs and even well known musicians donated their time and permission to use their songs. They have been doing these concerts for 20yrs now and all of their "covers" are awesome because musicians/singers/dancers from all over the world play one song together at the same time. They also help other non profit organizations help to end poverty, homelessness, hunger, etc. All of the songs are 'fire' but I would start with "The Weight", "Peace Train","Stand By Me","Listen to the Music","War/No More Trouble","When the Levee Breaks","Imagine"and"All Along the Watchtower" and "Ripple". Even my late mom loved them and the hope/love and message of world peace.Music is Universal and timeless. It transcends all races, genders, cultures, language barriers, etc. A friend from Maine, USA 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕🖖🖖🖖🖖☮️☮️☮️☮️👍👍👍👍👍👍
Hey beautiful! I love love that song and what it stood for! What an amazing uplifting and unifying song! Absolutely awesome! Girl thanks for sharing such a special song! Your reaction to it was so nice to see 👍🏽🥰❤️
Impressed that you know all the artists.. It's actually how I learned about all these guys.. Bought the single 45 record back in what?? 83? Like finding a greatest hits!!
Three things. 1) it’s so refreshing to see a younger person know most of these amazing artists 2) I get a kick out of your reactions! 3) You’re the most beautiful reactor I have ever seen. That’s not a creepy come on line. It’s a statement of fact. Keep it up!
Stevie Wonder at the end there is my favourite part. I always love when he brings his hands up when he's really going for it, one of the best things I've ever seen in all my years of watching and listening to singers. Cyndi Lauper's moment of erupting like a little firework always gets me emotional as well. Dione & Willie were such a perfect pairing. And I loved seeing Bob Dylan and Ray Charles. I adore their voices so much, very different voices but it's what music is all about.
Its amazing to see you feel such a special moment when the musicians of my time stood together to make a difference, why don't the so called musicians of your generation do the same? Especially in a time they're needed so much
It’s so crazy cause I watched the music video before watching your reaction and I was thinking, “yo Cyndi Lauper went off” I love her voice. But I just subscribed 🔥 I love your reaction and your style 🙏🏽 thanks for sharing, everyone in 2020 needs this energy!
I love your commentary 😂 This song is legendary, everyone sounded amazing and the song just flowed. Very well sung and very very well produced. I’m gonna check out your other reactions.
Some of the greatest music artest ever to be on stage in one place so glad you reacted to this and I'm amazed on how you know all the singers by name very impressive my darling
Wow! Sub and like from me 👍 Thank you for putting this out there to the younger generation. I'm 54, so I was around when all these people were big but you recognised more of these people, by face, than I did! And you seem to know every lyric! You look very, very young for a 60yo 😅😂 You know your stuff! Thank you ❤✌️
My mother would play this record at home alot when I was 4 years old at the time of its release. My favorite part was and still is the Stevie Wonder/Bruce Springsteen mini-duet.
I'm amazed that you know all or at least most of the artists! This video was when I truly appreciated how good Cindy was. If I remember correctly, there was a donation plan every time they played it. There wasn't any Venmo back then. I think we actually mailed in 🤑
Soooo much talent hear it's crazy. It's super cool they put all their egos aside for a cause. Cyndi Laupers voice was underrated, Dionne Warwick pretty much killed it.
You are a loving, feeling person it is obvious. I have listened to this song / video since it first came out, yes, I’m old, and still goose flesh pops up and tears flare up. My soul is so touched by the vibes in music as you also feel. I thank the Universe every day for my talent and singing voice as it is my solace always. Keep on doing what you feel and thank you for all you do. You are the new world and it gives me hope. Love to ya, Rob
thank you so much 😭💗 this song is such an amazing staple in music history and everyone was so passionate with beautifully unique vocals I’ll never get tired of this song 🥺.
Most everyone had a very unique sound and you could tell who was singing just by their voice - nowadays? Eh. Not so much. It's mostly about having highly produced music with computers. There is still good music today but there's just something missing. But I love how much you appreciate the voices. 😊
There once was a time in our not so distant passed when one was down we would lift them up. You my lady are one who just reminded us of this❤️ peace to all our sisters and brothers 🌎❤️🌎
I been meaning to watch this since you posted it....I remember when this was new and thinking that grownups really care us (kids) but the powers that be wanted to keep effing up the world. Was this your first time watching? MJ is forever the man....RIP to him and the others who have passed....oh you watched before....ayyyyy gravy.....I thought Ray Charles was 100 years old back then....RIP Kenny
We were part of the line of people holding hands, creating the line running through Flagstaff, Arizona, when they played this song around the world, all at the same time. I had the 45 single vinyl record of the song, and had everyone in our group sign it. Was amazing.
This is not the same damn world anymore, no f-ing cares about each other, all they do is fight , lie, diss, hurt, and kill each other. What the hell happened? Talk Radio....I just wanna cry....
Why would anyone think this song is stupid? During the 70s in school all we heard about was starving kids in Africa, and finally these talented people got together and did something about it.
Idk 😭 I’ve heard people say how the song did nothing and how the lyrics were cliche but I always thought the song and message was beautiful and powerful
That’s so cute...you said Michael asked can he bring his family.....they walked in there bossing....damn...of everyone...no Ray was the first I believe died.....RIP to Kenny Rogers, MJ, Al J...❤️
