Orange is a city located in Orange County, California. It is approximately 3 miles (4.8 kilometers) north of the county seat, Santa Ana. Orange is unusual in this region because many of the homes in its Old Town District were built prior to 1920.
The small city of Villa Park is surrounded by the city of Orange.

These guys are amazing and perform a great teamwork everyday and night across the roads, streets and highways in order to keep a high standard of traffic security.
Everyday, the City need to maintain, replace, or setup new direction arrows and speed limit pavement marks on roads and streets
across the city. This is a very complicated task. The safety of the kids, people, pedestrians and traffic has the first priority for each county and city.
Most of the projects starts after midnight or during vacation period so there are less traffic on roads.
Project performed by Superior Pavement Markings on behalf of City of Orange, CA, USA.
Thermoplastic material is known for its reflective and long lasting properties, and is used by contractors for striping roads and parking lots. Graco has three models of ThermoLazer thermoplastic stripers:
For the reflection purpose of the direction arrows and thermoplastic marks like speed limits pavements glass oxide from Potter Industries LLC is applied.
About Potter Industries LLC.
A leading producer of engineered glass materials serving the oil and gas industry, polymer additives, highway safety, metal finishing, and conductive particle markets.
Through its research and technology advancements, Potters has developed product lines that include hollow glass microspheres used as weight-reducing fillers in fabricated plastics, automotive body putties, as extenders in adhesives and paints/coating formulations and are used as sensitizes in industrial explosives.
Potters is the largest producer worldwide of highway safety marking glass beads, metal finishing beads for cleaning and strengthening metals, glass media for grinding and dispersing, glass microspheres for friction and weight reduction in oil drilling applications and metal-coated particles to provide electromagnetic shielding interference of electronic parts.
On November 7, 2015, the U.S. celebrated 80th birthday of the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways (MUTCD). Whenever you see an easy-to-read sign, a bright edgeline marking on a foggy night, the countdown timer at a crosswalk, or a well-placed bike lane, take a moment to reflect on the more than eighty years of progress and innovation that the MUTCD embodies.

How much does it costs?
If you know more about the cost of these kind of projects know how much these costs in California, USA let us know.

U get a gd driver n the operator in bk can let go. We use laser pointer to run long line. Makes alot easier. Adjusted by remote once truck lined up. Set pointer on premark n run.

Now I see why some states prohibit the use of the ribbon method for applying thermoplastic striping. It appears to be inherently messy! I have often seen the results, and always wondered why it was such a mess. I assumed it was because the equipment wasn’t working right. But I don’t see anything malfunctioning here, and all the lines are consistent. No matter which position or width or color is being applied, every line starts with a blob and ends with a dribble. Better to use the screed method, or one of the newer extrusion methods I’ve seen, but this one is junk.

We call it a dragon tongue on the end. His beads are really wide and coming on way early as well as being weak in the middle. All truck work does not appear like this. There are a bunch of factors that could cause these effects including something as simple as material temp. These trucks do great work but they really must be tuned in by a very experienced operator. I was unaware that some states prohibit ribbon. We do alot of it in NC. But our product is ALWAYS of the highest quality. Small family owned and Operated business and all of us care a great deal about our product. For myself its not just a job. Its honestly a passion for me. I spent 18 yrs in a cabinet shop so quality and accuracy and attention to detail are of the utmost importance to me.

Would you happen to know how much longer thermoplastic lasts on an average road compared to old style street paint?
@MasterWorkers
@MasterWorkers 5 лет назад
It the hot weather, under the California sun, I think thermoplastic Hotmix will last around 2-3 years, I suppose.
@ethanlamoureux5306
@ethanlamoureux5306 5 лет назад
I have seen thermoplastic last the life of the pavement, sometimes more than 20 years. It depends on how it’s applied, the type of pavement, weather conditions, methods of highway maintenance, and how much traffic the road gets. On the other hand, I have very often seen paint wear off in less than a year.
@2wheelsOrDieNC
@2wheelsOrDieNC 4 года назад
@@MasterWorkers the product we use in NC is estimated 3 to 5 yrs for .120 mil i believe but often exceeds that estimate. Like another response i agree sometimes road gets repaved before thermo is gone. As far as the paint goes the retroreflectivity wears out long before the paint itself. Ive seen the lines last 3 to 4 years but terrible visibility at night.

The process is fully automated but the operator at the back of the truck can at any time changes or add tasks to the operation.

@@MasterWorkers they have whats called a skip timer that measures the line as its applied. If your doing skips you calibrate the skip timer to the length of line and length of break then basically hit the go button. Operator still must pay attention to alignment, obstacles , or debris on road. If the driver is worth his weight the operator shouldn't have to adjust the carriage too much just focus on flipping switches.

Is being a street line painter a hard job or no?
@2wheelsOrDieNC
@2wheelsOrDieNC 4 года назад
Yes its a tough job. You not only deal with the heat but also the droves of traveling morons that dont give a fat shit that they ruin your work or make you have to scrape up brand new lines and reapply. Long line trucks are hot. If you a loader on top the kettles run anywhere from 425_450 deg Fahrenheit. So in the day sun beating down working next to hot ass kettles loading 50lb bags of powdered thermoplastic on a moving truck is def hard work. Running the hand machine for arrows, crosswalks, and such is basically pushing a 450 deg oven on wheels in the heat. Not as bad but def more likely to get burns. Its a hot hard and dangerous job but i honestly love it. On my 4th year now. I cant imagine doing anything else. Pays great too.

That is very poor quality with the over spill at the end of the line. Either the product is too thin or the equipment is faulty.
@mikel9567
@mikel9567 5 лет назад
That tends to happen with Thermoplastic moreso than with paint. But yeah it does look kind of bad and seems excessive.
@ethanlamoureux5306
@ethanlamoureux5306 5 лет назад
This product is not thinned, it’s a solid which is melted. Assuming the temperature is correct, which it appears to be, the product will go on as intended. Having seen similar results many times, I believe the mess is normal for this type of equipment, known as the ribbon or extrusion method. Most videos I see from equipment manufacturers show lines being applied but don’t show the end of the line. I believe this is on purpose. It may be the only way to get a crisp end of line is to use masking, which typically is not done with long lines.
