I'm from Dresden / Germany and I remember this match very well. The entire crowd in the stadium, without exception, was on the side of the U.S. When the goal fell shortly before the end of extra time, the cheering in the stadium was so tremendous loud that it could be heard throughout Dresden

Still one of the greatest moments in USA soccer history was that goal from wambach. The entire stadium turned on the ref and Brazil for not only the bull calls from the referee but for wasting time after their goal and flopping. USA by far deserved the win that’s what made this moment even more special! The entire German crowd became Americans for a few minutes 😂🇺🇸🇩🇪

That goal is one of the greatest in soccer history! The pass from Rampone on the left foot is superbly accurate and then Wombach perfect timing and use of the space. Work of art really.

Saw this live at a bar filled with US fans..and this was incredibly tense..even more than some of the men's semifinal and final matches. There was a lot of skill and determination in play..Marta,Wambach and Solo in particular.They just did not want to give an inch to the opposition.

Eric Shick That's true, but the ref didn't call it since the US players scored every time ANYWAY. Why make the US kick again after they scored on Andrea the cheating goalie? 'Bout the only decisions Malchem made fairly all game. At least Solo played fair, so US had the moral high ground. And, we got the win anyway! :)

Nah, they might win more, but the top level of men's football is a lot lot higher than women's football. The men's USA team isn't even that bad, it's just football is a huge sport in South America and Europe and the players that play for them are the elite of the elite, so in comparison the US doesn't look great.

+Toby Kuo This is almost never called. This happened a split second before the shot is taken. A totally bogus call, but consistent with sending off a US defender when both she and Marta were getting equally physical with each other.

I think all keepers should be a specific height. Its not Chile, or Japans fault they are all 5ft tall. Hope Solo must have appeared like a god dang Giant to them. It should be fair. Like Horse Jockeys. Although no max or min in how tall...you have to be 125lbs or less. Jockeys avg is 4ft 10" to 5ft 6". Keepers should have similar standards. To keep it fair.

@@vinnewiede4935 - It was about the Swedes playing a very conservative style when they eliminated the USA in the Olympics, I think. Anyway, that was the straw that broke the camel's back. Her long history of running her mouth (trashing Scurry in that fiasco in the previous World Cup) and all the off-field stuff contributed a lot to her being dismissed.

I know I saw that too. In contrast to this years World Cup... Ive seen probably 10 Pentaly Kick retakes cause the keeper didnt have atleast 1 foot on the goal line. Ive also seen so many PK's cause they went to instant replay and almost all were incidental kicks to opponents leg. They were inside the box and went to kick the ball and accidentally got the other girl and they give them a PK. Should only use replay for goals and out of bounds. Not for whiffed kicks. Not one that I saw looked intentional.

That first retaken penalty was absolute bull, she didn't move off her line at all. Thank god for the second though, the Brazilian goalkeeper stepped off her line every time. When you look at, for example, Scurry's save in 1999, you just can't call Solo on that one. Not to mention so many other keepers that step off their line way to early today.

Martas move before the penalty was a good move but the call for the 50/50 challenge was a mistake by the ref...both players went same time for the ball both have their feet up in the air even worse Marta did a double footed lunge which is more reckless and dangerous than Amy Buehlers 1 foot block.

I live in a town south of Buffalo, NY where the Western New York Flash lived while they trained at a soccer/sports complex here. It's a small town, literally around 6000 people and it blows my mind that the team they had that year (Marta, Alex Morgan & Christine Sinclair) trained at the same place my 9 year old nephew plays. Two of the best women's players ever and Alex Morgan.... and that is my anticlimactic story to all you strangers out there.

MinecraftSheepGod Because here there's no different associations for women and men, only for men. CBF stands for Confederation of Brazilian Football and its 'logo' carry the (men) titles. For sure, if W-BRA win a World Cup none star would be add. Funny fact that USA W-football/soccer it's more popular than man team. Cute. Unfortunelly USA squad here last year didn't get a better luck, but was best US team in years and we were supporting them too!

If the US Men had the same interest in soccer (football), I definitely believe the US men's soccer team would be one of the best in the world too. That's not me just being biased but considering how well the USA does globally in many other sports.

Buen gane. Es una verdadera lástima que una tan efectiva selección brasileña haya perdido la partida. Sin embargo, ese hermoso "sombrerito" que le hace la tal Marta a la chica gringuita (que parece que a la chica no le gustó y por ello le cometió falta) es para grabarlo en el album de los recuerdos como una de las obras de arte en el futbol femenino. Es simplemente bella obra de arte.
