When US (population 333million) beat China (1.44bill) its great triumph.Or Brazil (214m), Russia(145m)etc. When playing countries like Canada(38m) and Australia (26m) its a total mismatch, understand the enjoyment of those countries when US has to pull out all stops to win. Congrats to those countries!

I think that the population has little to do with victory. I rather think it's the sports system : In the US they really have this sport culture, sport is taken very seriously in their country at school .... And the most played sports are basketball, American football, baseball etc ... While in Europe it's the opposite, we don't have this sport culture but we are very good at football ( soccer ) maybe this is why we are better than the US at football

What about the players that don't live in the country they play for? That's why population don't matter.

@@e-man5654 Doesn't matter. The point is that a smaller country was able to produce a team that beat a more populous country, regardless of where their players have moved. There are some extremely rare cases where a player plays for a country they are not from such as U.S. player Becky choosing to play for Russia despite having no ancestral ties to the country. But that is a rare case like I said.

@@turtleislandlac1490 You don't have to be born or even grow up in the country in order to play for them therefore making it irrelevant the population of that country. For example, most players on the Nigeria team not only were not born in Nigeria, but in many cases has not even been to the country they played for. By the way, it's never embarrassing winning the gold medal.

@@verdiernoyama9681 It was broadcast on ESPN Plus. So only ESPN had the rights to show the game live. Although I think they will put the full game on this channel after a day.

Citron should have been the MVP not Clark. Although both played well for the USA. Looked at the stat sheet. Clark led Team USA with 14.3 ppg and Citron had 13.7 ppg in slightly fewer minutes. But Clark shot 39% for the tournament, and Citron shot 56% because she was taking the ball to the hoop more. Citron also had a higher efficiency rating. But I'm also an ND fan so I'm biased.

Almost all of Australia's points came from three-pointers resulting from the USA's horrible habit of unnecessary double-teaming on the ball which does not result in any turnovers. The USA should just play the three-point line against the world teams because it is OBVIOUSLY BLATANT that their only chance to score is on three-point shots. The USA needs to stop giving up so many three-pointers. Even with the three-pointers, Australia, and the world overall, keeps getting blown out. If they score, make them EARN it offensively. I think it starts with the mindset of the coaching staff.

true...almost all of Aussies points came from open, 3 point shots, don't know what the USA's coaches are thinking, it should just be man to man & switch defense , they are just thankful that they are deep & better overall team otherwise it could be a disaster

@@doods20fer41 It's the coaches poor mentality on all levels. It's as if the USA is doing everything it can to help the world beat them, or, give them competitive games. You are 100% correct. The USA should play more man-to-man/switching, and high pressure defenses. The world teams struggle badly when the USA employs these pressure-type defenses. They can barely score. It's the USA coaches mentality of we'd rather give up a three-pointer (3-points) but not a layup (2-points). It's just backwards thinking. We should not be trying to help the world teams beat us, or, slow us down.

What happened to the Russians? Didn't they beat the USA in the U19 final in 2017? They must not have any up-and-comers and were just a one-year wonder.
