Shashi Tharoor is indeed very eloquent and articulate and very knowledgeable. But he is unfortunately rather biased against British colonialism to the point of thinking that India should abandon one key vestige of British influence which is India's use of the Westminster Parliamentary System, and mistakenly thinks that the Presidential System would be much better for India. He's a little too focused on his anti-British fixation that he doesn't understand the systemic technical implications involved with a shift to the Presidential System. He does NOT realize that moving to a Presidential System will greatly exacerbate the popularity-centric aspects of politics to the point that India will end up becoming dominated by Bollywood and Cricket stars. Most REAL EXPERTS in India know very well that the Parliamentary System is way better. There is actually a major counter-offensive being done in India by those who know that the Parliamentary System is superior to the Presidential System which is why there are lots and lots of RU-vid videos in Hindi and in English made by Indian academics for Indian audiences explaining why Parliamentary Systems are better than Presidential Systems. Shashi Tharoor is totally wrong on his insistence on going for the Presidential System. He isn't thinking based on how systems work and what features will get emphasized by which systems. He doesn't know the technical implications of using a presidential system in India.

Multi party coalition is better than single party government. In a single party rule the powers are concentrated in one hand, that is the PM, which increases the chance of the PM to become autocratic like the case during Indira Gandhi rule. Indira Gandhi won around 2/3rd of the seats of Lok Sabha which gives her immense power that makes her go crazy and later she imposed Emergency in India. There is a reason why the Constituent Assembly - during the making of the Constituent - was made up of members of different communities, parties, religion, caste, sex or creed so that everyone is heard equally. The same goes to the multi-party coalition government. In Multi party government every strata of the society gets heard and everyone has a say in the government which is the true meaning of the government.

@laxmikesharwani8993 3 года назад
Can you explain what is the difference?
@MrPrandhir
@MrPrandhir 3 года назад
@@laxmikesharwani8993 it is very well explained in the video itself. What we follow is Parliamentry system. It is UK system. In this kind of system a candidate stand for Member of Parliament seat from a particular region. In Federal there is no such kind but voters being voted by public. Here, we public are direct voters. In Parliamentry system there are two heads, nominal and real head. President is nominal head and Prime Minister is real head. Whereas in Federal system, there is only one head i.e President, though there is post of Vice President in America, but President is more powerful. In Parliamentry system Prime Minister is more powerful than President. In America there is dual citizenship one citizenship of the of the nation and other citizenship of the state. Dr. Babasaaheb Ambedkar was of the opinion that UK is small country so, parliamentry is ok there but India is a vast country and diverse in culture in every region that is why he was of the opinion that American type system will be good for India. One more, In federal there is only one house i.e house of Congress. In India, there two houses Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. So, many bills gets pending unncessarily. Still, there are advantages and disadvantages in both system.

A very mediocre explanation of the differences between the 2 systems, although there were some crucial points covered like the fact that the constituent people choose unfit candidates as their MPs in order to see a particular individual win a prime ministerial position in a parliamentary republic. And not even wholly accurate. The US president is elected, not directly by the citizens, but through an electoral college. A very important distinction between other presidential republics and the US. Secondly, the executive branch is not wholly unaccountable to the legislative. The US congress can summon a bureaucrat or even a secretary of a department for questioning. A federal officer can be held in contempt of US congress and questioned by the members of its oversight committee. Another thing you should have brought up is the fact that there is a much frequent rotation in office of legislative branch compared to parliamentary system because the lower chamber of US congress undergoes a complete change as well as 1/3rd of senate (upper chamber of congress) midway through a president's 4 yr. term in office. Through Something known as midterm elections. So, if an individual from party A holds the presidency and party A also happens to hold the House-chamber of Congress, this may not necessarily be true 2 yrs later during the midterm elections, so that party B can go on to hold the house majority and maybe gain some senators in the senate as well during shuffling of the 1/3rd senate seats. Now that the congress becomes more in control under part B, the preseident of party A will be more restrained and accountable.

For making any decision government needs majority. There will only be a majority for a candidate if most of the representatives belong to the same party. So, there is nothing wrong in voting for BJP because they are portraying Modi as PM or as any ather party. I am from jharkhand, here is a collition govt. at the time, I am feeling that the government is unable to act properly because it is bond with congress. Because without them they cannot get a majority, so for me presidentialisation of parliamentary form of government is not wrong. It is good for decision making.

While the Indian system is unstable, its executive and legislature's power is greater than the American republican system. The constitution of the united states heavily constrains the government to not impead the rights of the people, while the Indian system allows any majority party to easily change laws as it pleases. Thats why India can just ban imports or exports levy massive taxes and tariffs, subsidize or hand out freebies without as much as a lokh sabha vote. The federal system is extremely broken because the states are way too big and communal parties hold monopolies in several states with vote banking strategies. The best compromise in my opinion would be an even stronger constitution that heavily limits the central government from intervening in trade and business, limiting its ability to tax, and limiting state's ability to tax and borrow money. And breaking up of large states such as Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra and ideally having only around 50 million people per state. China already has very small states and despite not being a democracy in reality it still has way better state governments than us.

India is going in the wrong direction. the argument is flawed when u say strong PM will solve all issues in states. The videos is exactly on the same topic that,bcoz the way we started to follow presidential style election for Modi, it made undeserving MP and MLAs get votes,its a fact. The issue here is that these guys dont serve the demand of the indigenous people. And since center is taking the decisions without research on local needs, the ground issues are not resolved. Thats exactly the reason why BJP lost Jharkhand. Same issue with Orissa ,west bengal and even Assam,these states have their own problems with several tribals and associated local needs. Which the centre doesn't understand, forget serving right. On the other hand, they will vote for Modi for center but not for state or Vidhan sabha elections. Regarding power dynamics, both state and center have enough power and enough funds. if the govts concentrated on development,they will definitely be able to do it without losses and debts as done by Kejriwal govt in Delhi.Jan 2020. Its very important we vote a party with a unifying agenda concentrating on development and happiness of the citizens.

@@TaranMahal343 state already have much power in view of decision making as they can make and Even can amend laws which are imposed by the union goverment...and if union goverment will be coalition of regional parties or states then there will be conflict of intrest between them as the party which will have highest seats will take unfair advantage for their particular states... 😐 and there is proberb in hindi "Andha baate revadi apne apne ko de" 😉 P.s :- Pardon my english i am shudh hindi wala just trying to improve my english

@@vickygiri1138 federal structure is already in danger. Look whats happening in Kashmir its now a jail leave aside state powers(no more a state), Human rights are violated. We have a population of 135 crore, 22 official languages, hundreds of cuisine, dresses etc, i.e. diversity in all aspects. We are a country not a nation. Making a single agenda party to govern our country as authoritarian will ruin all.

@@TaranMahal343 kashmir was an exeptional case as it had some special powers just because of our self acclaimed "the best prime minister of india". And which is rectified now...things will be normal soon and this is not the people who want saprete constituion for them its their politician and some partionist..but comes to our main argument the perfect example of state egoisem is bengal which just because of their political rivalry preventing their people to take advantages of central ruin schemes and not participating in the central state meetings...so how it can be true that they will work as a unite goverment in coalition goverment if their demands (whether its lawful or unlawful) will not fulfill..?

I think Parliamentary system is for the states with high population but people our country need to change their mind by voting the correct representave instead of voting for a party But I believe Honest executives are more Important than the educated executives because every executive is provided with many educated officers who can do everything executives just need to say yes or no honestly

You are wrong?????👺👺👺👺Multi party coalition is good .actually in 1996 only they brought this.state gov. Should have power over central government then only the state can be benefited or else centre may dissolve state government
