VIDEO INTRODUCTION : On 1st of September 2023, a committee headed by the former president Ram Nath Kovind explored the possibility of something called "one nation, one election" in India. and ever since this thing has come out in public, political parties all across the country have been fuming with anger!! Rahul Gandhi is calling an attack on the Indian union, Kejriwal has bashed this move and even DMK is opposing this idea!!! and while all this is happening Amit Shah has been named as one of the panel members to work on this one nation one election initiative!! So with the general election of 2024 closer than ever, on one side while it is being hailed as a revolutionary policy on the other side, it's being criticised as the abuse of power and a BJP's secret instrument to win the 2024 elections!! and as usual, our media channels are debating on useless matters instead of explaining the logic of the subject!!
So in this episode today, let's cut through the bullshit and try to understand,
What is this one nation one election initiative?
Why is it considered to be a revolutionary concept by some parties?
Why is it considered to be a terrible concept by other parties?
and most importantly, what are the study materials to help you understand the One Nation One Election idea better?
Think School is a Digital School that we all deserved, but never had

One Nation One Election is good for Ambani's and Adanis and other crooked industrialists like them but it is very very bad 😞😔 for the overwhelming mass majority of the common people of India because the issues of common people like Roti, Kapda and Makaan will get ignored under the system of one nation one election and this will directly result in no more essential freebies and subsidies for the poor people of India which they are now getting from different political parties for their valuable votes under this multiple election system which gives rise to multiple regional political parties which looks after the interest of the people of that particular region for eg SP and bsp in Uttar Pradesh, RJD and JDU in Bihar, TMC in West Bengal, DMK and AIDMK in Tamilnadu, Shiv sena in Maharashtra, BJD in odisha etc etc. One nation one election will only favour one or two National Political parties which is BJP and Congress at the cost of regional political parties which looks after the interest of the people of that particular region.

I never thought about the drawbacks of ONOE. Now that you have explained it, it’s more clear. I think it’s important that we go for ONOE understanding it’s importance for smooth governance and development plus reducing expenses. However, the ONOE concept should also include policies to keep the Governments in check about their performance every 2.5 years or so. We need to try and see how we can solve the drawbacks rather than objecting against it.

One biggest advantage is that the parties only spend once instead of twice. I feel one nation one election is important and should be implemented. People are sensible who to vote for centre and who to vote for state, we have seen this happening in recent times. I feel this will help Bharat as politicians will work hard to try to bring new things in their manifesto rather than throwing freebies in every state. They do a random testing in one state with freebies and replicate the same formula in other states. This should end. Full Support to ONOE ❤🎉

Implementing a "One Nation - One Election" policy in India would indeed face challenges initially, but it aims to streamline the electoral process and reduce political distractions. Over time, it could potentially lead to cost savings and allow for more focus on development. However, its success depends on careful planning and addressing various logistical and constitutional considerations.

As usual this channel hide many disadvantages about onoe to project this as great policy by bjp 1. What happens when state mla's resigned from their posts or dissolve assembly until next elections My suggestion for bjp is to leave this useless and high publicity things and make mla based elections into direct voting elections for cm & pm candidates by people . Mla & mp's should only be responsible for passing laws in assembly because of this cm's need not to worry about protecting their seat by luring or giving mines, contracts, money to their mla's and he could peacefully focus on his work and there is also one more advantage by this policy If any mla or his family members or his supporters do wrong doings cm could take immediate action without fearing about loosing seat . Every person who is in cm seat wanted to do good things for the people but this mla system is stopping from that to happen

One significant downside of holding synchronized elections for both State and Central Governments in India could be the risk of consolidating too much power with one political entity for a fixed period of four years. This could potentially lead to a situation where the government has little to no accountability toward its citizens, as the absence of frequent elections might reduce the pressure to perform or respond to public concerns. For example, in the current staggered election system, the constant electoral cycle serves as a regular check on governance, compelling authorities to be more responsive to issues like inflation, petrol prices, and welfare measures. In a scenario where elections are held only once every four years, the government could potentially ignore pressing public issues, knowing they won't face electoral consequences for an extended period

I mean unless we have a model that assures that state and central tenures stay in sync, what's the point of all this change, especially when state governments are so unstable. plus we should think about the psychological effects of campaigning. An ideal voter should cast their vote for the most suitable candidate with a national perspective in mind for the central seat and a state-oriented perspective for the state seat. However, when asked to vote for both positions simultaneously, many individuals may struggle to differentiate between their choices.

Dear Think School, The analysis you made predominantly revolves around features like Election expenditure, Governance process stuck due to MCC. It seems like acceptable. But the entire nation rest on the value of democracy which has various principles and important among that is ' expressing dissent ' and freedom of expression (freedom of choice/chance) which is needed to accommodate all stakeholders. By implementing ONOE , it leads to curtailing the freedom of expression (number of times/chances expressing people's opinion through vote). As you told during Indira Gandhi period, this choice of expression or chance given to people helps them to express dissent to her government in state election which can make leaders accountable. So undermine the value of democracy for saving money through ONOE is meaningless. Instead reforming or amending MCC can help in fluid governance process. You have mentioned that we are OFFICIALLY we are spending 3870 crores for loksabha and 4 state elections in 4 years. Roughly assuming 80 crore voters in our country, (3870 crore/80 crore= 48.375) So expenditure of 49 rupee per voter for 4 years (12 rupee per voter for one year) is very very miniscule. Even NITI Aayog report mentions overall we will save 5 rupees per voter when we implement ONOE. As a 3.75 trillion economy spending 5 rupee per voter for 5 years is very very very miniscule. You are mentioning the report that election expenditure is 60000 crores. But it is NOT OFFICIAL. It means political party spending unofficially. So please mention it as POLITICAL EXPENDITURE and not as election expenditure (BECAUSE IT SEEMS LIKE YOU ARE MANIPULATING). As per your mentioned NITI Aayog report, it leads to Black money circulation, politician-businessman nexus. This problem can be overcome by disclosing the political party spending, auditing the political party through independent body and by bringing transparency in ELECTION BOND scheme and strengthening Election Commission powers of monitoring. Simply BY EMPOWERING and REFORMING THE DEMOCRATIC INSTITUTIONS like Election Commission, CAG(audit) can bring the desired results. Even these things required political will which is always lacking at any regime irrespective of any political parties. ONE NATION ONE ELECTION IDEA IS TO CUT THE POLITICAL EXPENDITURE AND NOT ELECTION EXPENDITURE. So ONOE is a fascinating thing and not a essential thing for our vibrant democratic country.

As you shown in graph within just 6 month the chances biggest party likely to win state election reduces significantly

Let's strive to normalise using the word 'Bharat' even in English terminology. We don't want a misspelt Greek-English word to define our nation. It may appear as a mere replacement of a 5 letter word with a 6 letter one, but deep down it is a very serious decolonisation exercise.

not necessarily . There are many countries like that . Would you like to remember their name all over again ? for example - Zhōnghuá is China. Miṣr is Egypt. Aotearoa is New Zealand. Hrvatska is Croatia. Magyarország is Hungary. Nippon is Japan. Daehan Minguk is South Korea. Chosŏn is North Korea. Hellenic is Greece.

@@gtkgaming5595 they dont live on validation of others like you . Like a person can have two names. A country can have two names too . Nothing wrong with it . India always had bharat as its name in every place be it constitution or even the Indian rupee note.

@@ShivamSoni-uz5xw and ? Of all the major problems in the country. This is your biggest concern ? Nothing will change like that . Even if you choose to say it bharat , others would still call it India . In the constitution it will still be India. Just like other countries call their country but what they call it , you and me still call them by a different name. So its not a big deal. Just an attention seeking move.

The crux of the matter is, opposition will hate this decision and the ruling party will love this decision. Us, the citizens need to be the ones who do the logical thinking.

The government should regulate the expenses spent on Elections & also the Electoral bond. One nation one vote is not a good idea for a country like India where we barely see our leaders once the voting is done.

In my experience, before elections the potholes are fixed, street lights are replaced and some other basic inconveniences are addressed. If we have lesser election, they will do lesser work. Imagine, waiting for road fix for 5 years every time. And, the cost reduction and lost effort of government employees only applies to sincere administration, not in India. Think of it in this way, all the same logic of effort and cost optimization also applies to College. If they conduct exam only once a year, it will save money, students will have more time to read and professors will have more time teaching and educating students. But, do you really think, students will learn more in this way? No, because our students are not sincere. They will not use the time to study, they will sit idle and relax in this time. Same goes for our Govt. and administration. They only work when there is pressure. The pressure is exam for students and elections for politicians.

One important benefit of this approach would be frictionless governance. All the centre policies can be seamlessly implemented at the state level and it would actually push the government at centre to support and treat all the states in an equilibrium approach. This would reduce religious political approach and rifts between states as well.

Just because you argue against the ruling party you become a 'Deshdrohi'. Just because BJP proposed this, many people came to support it then say why we were called 'Andhabhakt'. These are the same people who got independence in 2014 and constitution in 2023 (for amendment in IPC, CrPC, IEA). I also voted for the ruling party but when we don't have a single Hindi channel to criticize the government then we should start expressing our views.

In my opinion,One nation one election is beneficial due to following reasons - proper implementation in synchronisation of central and state government various schemes and policies for the public - reduction in cost of taxpayers'money for conducting elections - people will start to take more interest in their collective necessities among themselves rather than the formation of government in other states. As per current scenario,One nation one election might get influenced by the central ruling party because oppositions are repeatedly targeting that various govt. and independent's agencies are hijacked by them😀
