The main destination was Usal Beach in northern California. One of the few places in California where you can drive right up on the beach and set up camp. If you don't mind the deep sand, you'll have a great time like we did.
First, I made a big detour on my way to Usal Beach. I headed to my favorite camping area I've been going to for 45+ years. Just north of Oakhurst, and just south of Yosemite up in the High Sierras off Highway 41. I had trouble with my Go Pro the first day so I had to put up some still photos instead.
The rest of the trip went great. The coastline in northern California is absolutely breathtaking. If you haven't driven it at least once, you owe it to yourself to do it.
I found the best breakfast place on the planet called Eggheads in Ft. Bragg. There's also great Mexican food and margaritas in town also.
We got to help out a young couple who got stuck in the sand with the tide quickly approaching. They didn't really take our advice about camping near the surf, but were very lucky not to get stuck again.

In a way, the trip home was even better. Our group split up after Usal so I drove down the coast solo through San Francisco (ugh, the traffic!) by myself staying at various campsites including ones in Santa Cruz and my favorite place Morro Bay. One of my most enjoyable trips ever.
Hope you enjoy the video!
