Kudos Marques for being big tech evangelist. Currently got one USB-C port on my Dell XPS 15, connected to Dell's WD15 USB-C dock (thats the USB-C model not thunderbolt 3 model) . 3x1080p monitor, mech keyboard, mouse, ext. drive, headset, plus charging all thru one port. One critique, you should point out USB-C is the interface, not the underlying tech. My Dell USB-C port is a thunderbolt 3 tech(10Gbps) whereas USB-C port on my One+ 3T, is usb2 speeds. NOT ALL THE SAME. (ie. Is your raid device Thunderbolt3 on USB-C, otherwise it will be rather slow)

This future would come much slower than you think... You will see no Micro-USB ports in new products only after 2020. Think about all the bluetooth peripherals using Micro-USB for charging. NONE use usb-C.

I got a new motherboard for my pc ( Msi z170 sli) because it has a usb c port! Even gaming pc's have usb-c ports!

I get that it's better... but just looking around my room and seeing how many things use the current usb and the fact that I'll have to change them all is making me anxious lol

You know Sennheiser is going to release a pair of USB type c(and lightning port) headphones/earbuds,its basically IQ Buds+Sonys earbuds(its a model that has 3D sound,that is the only way to explain that,and it uses the 3,5mm headphone jack)+usb type c/lightning port=Sennheiser AMBEO SMART HEADSET Revealed on CES 2017,tested in april,sales start in september after IFA in Berlin(there they will be officialy revealed to the public).

Wireless charging is currently terrible. It can only charge at 51% efficiency(on average) and wasting the rest. If Tesla continues with wireless charged cars, every charge to drive with take the equivalent of three average American homes. It awful for the environment and I will be avoiding for now until we get a huge upgrade.

I really am not ready for a world where USB-C is the standard. As someone who likes to work on computers, I like the option of using a UHS-3 SD Card to transfer data and using bulky 32GB USB drives to have all the portable tools I need to fix a PC. USB-C is an emerging technology, so I don't think something like a 128GB USB-C Flash Drive will take off, since it took even modern USB drives a long time to adapt the technology. I am also worried about the potential of having everything in the future ONLY be USB-C. I love my HDMI port, especially when using a higher speed cable. USB-C may make it more difficult to have HDMI sync with the television refresh rate if being used with an adapter. Not to mention that people will have to use USB-C hubs if later-tech does go the MacBook route and has only a USB-C port on it. These hubs will greatly reduce the speed of USB-C because the data will have to be shared with a multitude of devices at once. I feel like going the MacBook route and having later-tech have only a USB-C port will actually be degrading the evolution of our technology rather then improving it.

I dont have a Type-C phone or PC, but I do have a Type-C controller and bluetooth earphones, plus the Switch charges with it as well. I'd say it's a good mix for me atm.

What I want is a phone with 2 USB-C ports on it, so I can listen to music and charge it. I know wireless charging is the future, but thats what would be most convenient to me right now, while migrating toward future tech

I imagine a day where all smartphones will only have one port, a USB type C, D, E or whatever... and that's all that will be needed for anything. Charging can be done through that, headphones can be plugged through that, moving some files from your phone onto a USB stick or an external hard drive can be done through that, data transfer to laptops can be done through that, connecting your phone/computer to your TV can be done through that port as well, and the world will be a beautiful place (apart from war, politics, famine, and all the other nasty stuff).

I still find it fascinating how we're having to add things to these very expensive laptops just to make them as functional as last years models. I'm a mac user, love my pro for my photo editing but I really can't see a future with them until the entire market has shifted. Luckily I've got a pretty good specced pro so I can always build a nice PC and use this as my strictly on the go machine.

Would be nice if manufactures would put two Type-c ports on their phones. Some of us might want to use their headphones while their phone is charging you know.

I'm calling it! Apple's iPhone 8 is going to have 0 ports. Meaning no headphone jack and no more charging port. What no more charging port? Yes, no more lightening cable. Why? Why not. Why should Apple make people's lives harder by making them carry adapters for their headphones with the jack and carrying those lightening cables? They shouldn't. With 0 ports, everything will be wireless. Wireless charging would become standard for the iPhone, so no more carrying that lightening cable every where, you'll just have to carry the cable and the wireless charger to charge the iPhone. Oh wait, you don't want to carry that? No problem. You guys heard of that Apple Battery Case right? Yeah it wasn't good. So Apple is going to make a case that would have wireless charging capabilities to charge your phone automatically when placed in the case, just like how some battery banks include wireless charging. Slap that battery bank, onto a good case, and done, you have a wireless charging case for your new iPhone. Who says you need an adapter to listen to music through your ancient piece of tech headphones. You don't, because there won't be any. Instead of using your ancient piece of tech, called a headphone jack, its all going to be bluetooth. No need for anymore wires, no need for any adapters because bluetooth is the only way. Oh Apple also didn't forget about how they are going to improve the thinness of the new iPhone. Its going to be thinner then the iPhone 7 and its going to have a smaller battery. That's what everyone wants these days, thinner is better, smaller is better, compact is the future.Say you want to sync files or pictures to your new iPhone, well you can't through a port since there is none. Everything is cloud base and that's how you are going to have to sync everything through. Until the world has gotten smarter and create a way to wireless sync files/music/videos through a laptop/computer, kind of like nfc, until then, syncing will have to be done in the cloud.

Here in 2020, and I'm incredibly sad and frustrated by how prevalent micro USB still is. I've gotten to the point where I contact companies and tell them that I was going to buy their product until I saw they put micro USB in it instead of USB C. I'm done with micro USB, get that incredibly fragile garbage out of here. If they use it, I'm not buying it.

They need to make refreshed versions of the Xbox one and PlayStation 4 controller with USB-C

I don't know about you, but if all my rechargeable widgets used USB-C, I wouldn't have anywhere near enough USB-C power sources to satisfy them all. And you talk about bringing one cable and charger - do you really only charge one device at a time while traveling? Do you then serially wait for a device to charge, then switch to the next device, then to the next? I've got plenty of USB-A stuff (USB 3 and 3.1), but because USB-C *can* supply so much power, my charging devices don't have a whole bunch of outlets like my USB-A chargers do. And let's face it, most things don't really need that kind of power output, but because any given client *can* absorb that much power, you don't have devices which offer to charge eight of them at once.

"its not going to fall off" thats what they said about firewire. and USB-A. and the headphone jack. and the RJ45 jack. notice those are all things that are not common on laptops anymore? there will be a day when USB-C dies, and it will be when something better comes along to replace it. my money is on some kind of optical jack.
