USC is still a great football team, as a Penn State fan, I had this game circled before the season and I thought this was going to be a very hard fought game, regardless of the winner...2017 Rose Bowl left a sour taste in our mouth and I know this may have the same for USC fans as well, I think USC is still in this and prevail the rest of the season, and win out, if they continue to fight like they did today, they have a chance to be competitive against anyone in the country

I bleed cardinal and gold, and I’ll tell you what: USC is NOT a great football team. Far from it. The Coliseum is a difficult place to play, and the Lions found that out. But wins on the road needn’t be beauty contests, and Penn State played determined, winning football in the 2nd half. Well earned.

Kind words, but SC is fool’s gold. We have multiple deep rooted issues that need to be sorted with poor coaching at the root. We need to make some tough decisions but it will NOT improve to our expectations until something changes. We are one of the most successful and recognizable programs in the history of college football and our track record under LR is unacceptable. Fight on!

It is truly unfortunate that USC fell short today, especially after building an early 17-3 lead, only to lose 33-30 to Penn State. Watching our team fight so hard, only to see the game slip away, was disheartening. The defense played valiantly against the #4 team in the nation, giving everything it had. However, it was disappointing to witness Miller Moss overthrow his receiver once again, resulting in a costly interception that handed the game over, marking the third time this season. With this loss, our hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff are likely over, but we can still salvage a respectable season by aiming for a bowl game. As a lifelong Trojan, I bleed cardinal and gold, and no matter if this team finishes 3-9, I will continue to stand by them. I may not have the answers to fix our current struggles, but I trust that our coaches are working tirelessly to find them. Fight On!

@@oaktreet4335 Joyner averaged 25+ yards on his 3 carries. Yes it was mostly on one run but it's the longest run by a USC back all year. Pete Carroll had Bush and White sharing the load one year and both ended up with 1,000+ yards rushing. That's what Riley needs to do.

This loss is absolutely on Coach LR and Coach D'Anton Lynn. They BOTH need to own this loss. We're 3-3 now, so there's no hope for making the Playoffs. Might as well start Jayden Maiava and see what he can or cannot do in live game action. Side note: Since coming to USC, Lincoln Riley is now 4-11 versus teams ranked in the Top 10.

Through 3-years Helton had two 3 loss seasons, a 4 loss season and a Rose Bowl win. Riley has already tied Helton in loses at 10 through 3 seasons and we’re only half way through year 3 for Riley! If Riley follows this trend it’s all downhill from here.

The stupid timeouts had nothing to do with anything the play call was great. Deuce was wide open with room to run and Miller threw it over his head

The stupid timeouts would have allowed a more well thought out play call and strategy. There was 18 seconds on the clock at the time of the pic and they needed a lot of yards to get into field goal range. It was 4 down territory once they got to midfield. Easier to throw 7 yard outs and get closer in 2-3 plays than one 15 yard throw. It was terrible game management and LR is a dufus.

Unfortunately we/Riley just doesn’t know how to win. Our guys played their arses off, and Riley’s coaching decisions and clock management cost us the win. He’s officially on the hot seat for 2025, and I don’t see anything out of him that gives me confidence that he’ll right the ship. I’m tired of “Moral victories”. He’s paid $110 million, and at this point in year 3, he shouldn’t be learning on the job. Good win, and good luck the rest of the season. As for us, all we can do is Fight On!

I have zero rooting interest in Penn State or USC. Miller missed that throw. Lincoln wanted to end the game with no time left. I understand what he was trying to do. The defense was tired and he didn’t want to leave anytime on the clock. Moss unfortunately missed the throw. But he also missed it high allowing an interception. If Miller hits that throw we kick the field goal to end the game. Players have to make plays.

@@MrSoupbone1969 Lincoln trusted Miller to deliver the ball. Miller threw a pick when he needed to stand in and deliver the ball. If he missed the throw he needed to miss low not high. Miller got away with another poor throw earlier that should have been picked off. Miller had an off day yesterday it happens. If we complete the ball we potentially kick a game winning field goal with no time left on the clock.

Pete Carroll had his own issues losing to team he shouldn’t have, but one thing he was very good at, at get the players to play without thinking too much, without worrying about making mistakes and just play fast and trust their abilities. This team needs a sports psychologist more than anything else. When the game is tight coming into 4th quarter, it almost seems like they’d rather not be there. Pete is supposed to be coming back to SC to teach a course or something… would be good for LR to spend some time with him.

2 National Titles (played for a 3rd), 7 straight Conference Championships, 7 straight Top 4 finishes, 7 straight 11+ win seasons, 7 straight BCS bowl appearances (Pete literally funded USC's current facilities with BCS money), 3 Heisman winners, 10-1 record vs Top 10, 4-0 vs SEC, 2-0 vs Michigan, 2-0 vs Ohio State, etc. If the playoffs and nil happened during Pete's era he would have won more National Titles. 🙄

@@SportZFan4L1fe if the transfer rules were what they are now, he might not have been able to stockpile talent 3 deep. Pete’s best asset was his recruiting. He recruited better than anyone and had top 5 classes year after year after year. And he had norm chow as OC, whom if he had tried to keep from leaving, he would’ve won a few more NC’s instead of handing the offense to the kids (sark and kiff). Pete was awesome but his wasn’t a perfect coach (remember losing to 50pt underdog Stanford???). He could’ve won a lot more. I’m willing to give LR a few more classes of his own top recruits before giving up on him. But he needs to bringing in top classes year after year. If he can’t recruit, he won’t win. Class of 2025 and 2026 are critical.

LR did a good job being creative in first half then went back to Vanilla calls. It’s like he’s intentionally positioning the game to be close. No killer instinct. This opens the door to bad calls by the refs, which they are doing on purpose. We need an OC who is creative and tricks the defense, or at the very least can hides our weaknesses and expose the other team’s weaknesses.

You wrote exactly what I did on another board. I think the coaching staff did a really decent job in many ways, but when they get a lead, they just take the foot off the gas. the o-line was much better, but is still not good. they had to scheme around that o-line.

To critique does not always mean you're not supporting. Truth, week after week now riley has failed to put this squad in position to walk away with the victory. He let clock run off and called Chickenley in hope of a field goal. Championship coaches attack the moment and not leave the moments destiny to chance. Skid-row is littered with the carcasses of us who allowed hope/chance and fear to dominate our decisions. Our coaches, players and fans deserve better.

Thanks, Marc, for giving us your usual excellent show, this time after the gut punch that knocks the wind out of you. I was at the game yesterday (from Hawaii…was hoping to meet you in person😢), and my NEW feeling is that LR needs to give up play calling and pay attention to all the unexpected twists in the game (like telling Coach Lynn to freaking put a guy on their TE after the FIRST quarter, not the end of the third! Allowing him to catch all those passes allowed Allar to find a rhythm. A head coach MUST manage ALL facets of the game, not dedicate all his time to figuring out what play to call. I think he should try to lure Coach Chow out of retirement (I see him at Honolulu Airport from time to time)! Also, maybe we could plan and practice for when we need to adjust our defense to cover the TE better without creating other blown coverage situations.

Marc mentioning CLR turtling at the end of regulation. I'm sure no one was more shocked to see this level of ineptitude than the PSU sideline. Don't think the players aren't picking up on their head coaches lack of confidence in them? Is this what real leadership looks like? You ever get the feeling that Riley would be happier head coaching at a mid-major program while making USC level money? Easy schedules, he could get away with only recruiting well at QB/WR, live in his offensive playbook, and probably win a lot of games with little scrutiny.

Based on how we couldn't stop them in the second half he was dealing with what he saw on the field!! Miller Moss had his worse game of his career!! He didn't want Penn ST. to have the ball which he explained. If Miller makes an easy 10 yard pass to Duce over the middle we are probably talking about a great victory!! Not making an adjustment at half time on 44 is a big issue as well!

My first thought is recruiting. They are going to keep losing the big 5 star lineman recruits and others to Oregon if they don't win games. Oregon is winning because they out recruit us EVERY year. Now we will lose recruits to many teams in the Big conference. The struggle will continue until we can put a string of wins together.

How could we let that TE dominate us like that? Lack of time management Refs didn’t call the illegal procedure nor the two pass interference penalties. The roughing the passer call was awful. Their adjustments after halftime were better than ours. Our 3rd quarter sucked. The offense was trash and was completely shut down.

The payrolls for some teams is tough to overcome. Ohio State and Oregon currently have the best payrolls in the 10. LR is probably not in the same class as Ryan Day or Dan Lanning coaching wise. USC is still a top 25 team even though the record doesn't seem like it.

Mark, I don’t disagree with Riley’s time out use. After the Michigan game he was heavily criticized for not running out the clock and giving Michigan the ball with time left on the clock. Penn State was moving the ball well and could have easily scored with some time on the clock if we had a 3 and out. And, LR got James Franklin to use up his time outs. Playing for a walk off FG is ok.

Looks like we have to build a coaching staff around LR like we did for Helton. We’ll have to pay $100M for him just to stand there with his mouth open. SC’s bad luck with hiring head coaches then having to hire other asst coaches to take over most coaching responsibilities reminds me of the story “Stone Soup”. Thats not a way to build a coaching staff.

Refs in the big 10 usually don't make as many calls especially late in games, sometimes it helps you, sometimes it hurts you, one or two of those big USC plays probably should have been called back for holding but it is what it is

Watch the 4th quarter interception where the ball is overthrown to Deuce. The cheerleader known as Elijah Paige got spun around by the defender even though they had a double team on the guy. Moss saw the defender split the double team and break through forcing him to throw the pass a half second too early. Reminder people, Matt Leinart used to barbecue steaks while he was waiting for his receivers to complete their routes. Miller Moss can't even sneeze after the snap, what a crock of shit. Let's recruit all the elite receivers when we have zero pass protection. Miller has been made to look like a fool all because of Riley is NOT a head coach. Riley looks like a pudgy cabbage patch doll because he is one. God damn fraud.
