Repeat offender Kartje back to stumbling in print yet again. This time, he makes the same mistake as his colleague, Mr. Harris (and, in truth, almost every other sportswriter these days - as most now in the business are long on the "sports" component of the appellation, but fall short with regard to the "writer" part). Namely, he refers to Eric Gentry as "lanky" several times in a recent story - unaware, no doubt, that Lanky doesn't mean simply "long-limbed," but AWKWARDLY long-limbed. While some who know the word's meaning may well find Lanky an apt descriptor of Gentry (or Tyler Glasnow, as Harris would have it), surely Kartje wouldn't knowingly insult a young man over his body type. It is therefore, in kindness, we give Kartje the benefit of the doubt in saying he simply didn't know the word. (We'll extend the same courtesy to the Editor.) Also, and again just like Harris, Kartje makes the error of saying such-and-such an event WAS a "sigh of relief." A sigh of relief is something one Heaves upon the occurence of some event; it is not what the event itself IS. (And yet again, no Editor in sight to stop this blunder.) Mr. Kartje clearly has potential as a writer, but at this point in time he's acting as an exponent - abetted by the Times' sports editor(s) - of a spiralling mediocrity epidemic in journalism (esp. sports), through failing to have honed his chops sufficiently.
@@Jaime-u5m look at Michigan's run game last year, they ran at will on everybody including Alabama. The historically elite USC identity is we run the ball hard when we want. Reggie Bush, Lemdale White, O.J., Marcus Allen, Ricky Bell etc... Running the ball when a defense allows it is soft football.
Just as you exploit/test/pound opponents young DB's, Monheim will also be tested. "It's one of those positions that's hard to predict until a guy does it". Will be interesting to see how he reacts after purposely getting hit on the mouth. Will he start hiking the ball like the love of Helton's life? The shortest distance to a QB's destruction is still up the middle. I hope you purchase insurance through the portal.
Coach, you’re the BEST, and this year will prove it. The team will surprise these big 10 teams. The Pac12 was a strong, underrated bunch. Gone forever.
