You can go and read their terms so that you will be more comfortable. That’s what I do. To answer your question, yes. Here is from them “ Subject to your compliance with these Terms, OpenAI …. You have writing and illustration. Both can be either way depending on the level of changes you make. I do assisted, base on the changes I make.

Is there away to find that same "character" again another day when you use that site. Or do you have to think of all the books you want to make with that character and save all the photos in one day? Well unfortunately one can take anything you made with AI and use it for free. AI work is not copyright protected and free for the taking even if you paid for it.
