Guys there is a lot of sharpening devices out on the market that are a flat gimmick some of them work halfway some of them work the way they say they do and this just so happens to be a very simple way of learning how to properly hold an angle and hone a Blade to a razor sharp edge.
Very good product, i would definitely recommend this.

Chris, Mr. Dan says, good job! very informative, we appreciate all the kind words. The EZ hone isn't just for novices, great for anyone. The packaging includes the stones & oil which makes it great for back packs to kitchen drawers when & where ever its needed! Just add dull knife! lol thanks again!

Dan's Whetstone glad to see the comment! I appreciate it, and also intended to add that. But didn't, i was enjoying using these fine stones! This is indeed a great package deal. lots of bang for your buck here. would you mind listing the available sizes here?

As one who is wanting to learn how to sharpen my knives my EZ Hone arrived just today. Appreciate the video. As a new beginner my greatest concerns are 1) having the correct angle and 2) learning how many passes I should do per side per stone. Luckily a friend of mine gave me some old knives that will allow me to practice before ever attempting to sharpen my Buck 110.

I was looking at buying one of these so thought I'd check out the review..glad I did..going to grab one. Just have to decide which one now..I do mostly folders so a 6 would probably be fine..if I like it, I can always buy an 8 for the few fixed blades.I use. The prices are very reasonable.

Great video on a set of great stones, my only question is since they're mounted on the wood how would you flatten the stones after a lot of use? it doesn't seem like the stones rise above the angle guides. would we have to manually remove the stones to flatten?

Here is an oversimplified explanation of what makes an Arkansas black stone black. It is the crystaline structure made of super fine conjoined crystals that are so infinitely varied in their facets that little to no light in the visible light spectrum is reflected back to our eyes. This is a limitation in of the human eye. If we could see in infrared or ultraviolet, we would be some freaky looking creatures to each other. All color that we see is reflected light in a specific spectrum like red, green and yellow. When little light is reflected we see grays and blacks. The blacker and more even the color of the Arkansas stone, the more pure its crystal structure. Don’t tell amybody, but if you have a pure black Arkansas, you have one big gemstone. I don’t want that to get out and drive the prices any higher than they already are, so, lets just keep that to ourselves.

Nice video. I bought one of these and have no idea how to use it. The stone didn't come with very helpful instructions. I emailed the company and they referred me to Dan's video on using this. Again, not very helpful to me. So what are the different sides for? I noticed you started on med then fine and ultra. Why did you do it this way and why didn't you start with coarse? My kitchen knives are so dull!
@recoil53
@recoil53 5 лет назад
Hello, your post is 7 months old but I don't know if you found an answer yet. The sides are different degrees of fineness - how fine or coarse you leave a blade has to do with your purpose and tastes. You can get an edge that shreds newspaper easily with the coarse stone, but you may want a finer edge. Which stone you start with depends on how dull your blade is - the duller the edge, the coarse the stone you start with. If you already have an edge, but want it sharper then starting with a medium stone keeps you from removing too much material. Using a coarser stone wouldn't keep you from getting a sharp edge, but does remove more material than necessary. Even starting with a dull edge on a finer stone won't keep you from getting a sharp edge, but it will take much longer. Some experience develops the judgment needed.

Robin Walker well thank you. And first off $70 won’t cut it for a good set. If I were you I’d buy a good soft to start out. I know what a budget is like lol. Their is a soft and black combo stone dan sells for like $130 I believe. I have one and love it. Of your wanting to start with Arks I think that would be the best choice in my opinion. This is a great hobby. But it’s not super cheap. And ask away that’s what I’m here for.
