Hmm well what's going on behind the scenes in the progression of going from "I don't have location data in my app" to "oh now I have it!" On most browsers, there is a permission that must be granted before a requesting party is granted location access. Next there are different technologies used for determining location data -- GPS for mobile device, IP address for larger devices. Also, was there a VPN on? In my limited understanding, IP addresses can vary depending how the internet service provider handles them, so that could be what's happening.

@@NoCodeAcademy Actually the IP part makes sense. And no, i dont use VPN. The strange thing is, when i used actual google maps page and clicked the detect my current location, it shows my EXACT location as is when i use my mobile device when i used this plugin.

@@gdmt sounds about right for google maps page to know exact vs whatever technology the plugin is using to detect location, likely by ip from the sounds of it. There's more than 1 plugin to get location so the good news they all do roughly the same thing of getting a location but can different in how they accomplish that. This video is pretty old so if you find this plugin is not suitable, best to try a few others. Hope that helps.

Hey thanks for the kind words. Are you doing in on a phone or in a web browser? It does depend though on what you mean by "sometimes", it could be that the browser blocks it and the icon is so small it's easy to miss. Or maybe you already enabled it in a a specific browser? So if your testing happened to be in a few browsers, maybe thats's what happened. But if you tested it in the same environment 5 times and the 2nd and 4th time it didn't work and the 1st, 3rd and 5th it did, then next steps would be to (a) double check your implementation or (b) rebuild it. If it is still being inconsistent, if I were you, I would reach out to the plugin owner or consider one of the paid options from Zeroqode or Apptastic. You can test a paid plugin for 1 day on the $10/mo option and it if you cancel, Bubble pro-rates it back so you end up spending like $0.30, maybe give that a try if it gets you to the finish line faster.

Hi Alexander, check at the 2:17 mark and play around with Start and Stop tracking options. I don't know frankly as I've never done that, but will update this post if I'm able to investigate some other time.

Hi Andrea, good question. My understanding as it relates to the setup shown in this video is that once the device allows access to location, you can run a workflow to get an updated location without any additional interaction from the user's side (aka they don't see a permissions popup again). However, I don't know for a fact that if they have left the app in the background that this would work because I don't have personal first hand knowledge testing this. There are other plugins out there that offer live tracking mode such as zeroqode.com/plugin/gps-live-geo-tracking-plugin-for-bubble--1528977963662x371980082044993540 or bubble.io/plugin/gps-tracking--distance-matrix-1653052484819x136248231080755200 It'd require a bit more investigation into how to complete the setup, but a good option to know about. Lastly, I'm going to take an interpretation of your question as "if I choose to go down the road of using Bubble, can I be sure to get live GPS tracking in a mobile app" not sure if that's what you mean, but I have asked a friend who has a delivery app like Uber Eats built on Bubble and am awaiting his reply if he's achieved this or not.

Andrea, if I were you, I'd reach out to the folks at www.buildnatively.com/ as they have what appears to be the functionality you're looking for. In the Bubble world, it's always best to check with someone who has successfully implemented the exact feature set you're aiming to build prior diving in, though they appear to have that here docs.buildnatively.com/natively-platform/features/geolocation.

​@@andreasperti2087 generally speaking, yes. On a paid plan you can run a thing called backend workflows, which can be scheduled or triggered (based on other conditions being met) to run in the background. But the more specific you can be about the processes you'd want to run, the better, so you can research it out. Because a backend workflow can run in the background but if it's making a request to a mobile app that's been closed, as one example, it'll make the request but perhaps not get the data it's requesting. But if it's running a nightly workflow to re-calculate something within the Bubble database, then sure, running in the background is no problem.

Hi John, thanks for the comment. Yep, there are often times a few ways to accomplish the same thing in Bubble. The Current geographic position blue expression to use as a data source as well -- manual.bubble.io/core-resources/data/data-sources#current-geographic-position and Bubble will ask the browser for its location, etc. One of the nice things about this method is that at 3:50 there are also error handling triggers in workflows that let you know if the app was successfully granted permission by the end user to access that data.
