Downblocking is an essential skill for wrestling takedown defense! Your head is your first line of defense against shots. Your hand/arms are the second. Understanding the concept of having a defensive arm and how to use it is CRITICAL! Especially when competing against explosive/athletic opponents! Downblocking is when you use your arm to create a frame between your opponent's arms/body in your legs. The frame keeps the separation between the two and uses your opponent's shot momentum to push your body/legs away from them as they try and enter your legs.
