Just watching for this great British bulldog accent😅 I use left hook twice low and immediately high afterwards. But I trained that. As you said stay balanced when moving back protect ur chin and do not blink. Or hang around with nice people at chill places so u do not get confronted. Worked for me last 30 years

Hey boss, I've been subbed to this channel for a long time now. It was this channel that made me want to take lessons and join a real gym- and I'm thankful for that. I don't watch your videos much anymore but the QUALITY and editing have gone up SO MUCH. The effort you put into taking concepts and hammering in the importance with tons of examples will always be why this channel is one of the best. Just want to say thanks for making such a positive and helpful community on youtube around the sport- You're a gem.

What's up tony, I'm a subscriber of yours and Im also a boxer . I appreciate everything you do. Thank you. Speaking of street fights , I had a recent experience that is still itching at me. This guy next door (me and family are in a motel in a program to get me and my kids into a home) so I have a lot to lose if I get caught beating up my neighbor. I choose to walk away. For the sake of getting my kids in a stable home. This guy has got in my face and squared up on me (just because I'm smaller than him) but he literally sags his pants to the point where his belt ties his knees together and he squared up to me like that with his hands down in his stance. I box/trained for 13 years now, so obviously If I choose to I would have destroyed him. But I swallowed my pride and thought of my kids. And he felt like he did something now. So the next time he runs up on me like that again, by then I'm getting angry now so I warned him that I will destroy him and he won't stand a chance, he thought better of it and finally went the other way. Now the situation is over (I think) and It is now eating at my pride/self esteem and I know that he is just a bully and I always dealt with bully's pretty easily being I train and box and most don't even know how to fight. But I feel like I backed down in a way, but I made a decision to not have my kids in the cold streets because of my ego. I know this is a long comment but tony if you read this , do you feel I did the right thing? And if so why does it bother me so bad to walk away from this one knowing I did what I had to do for my kids and a wife with colon cancer stage 4 and so they don't have to suffer because of my ego. I would think I should have been proud of myself because I've never walked away from a fight but it has been on my mind bothering me and keeping me up at night, though I was not even intimidated at all especially the way he foolishly approached me with his hands down standing square with knees tied together and dude is on drugs. But I still feel like I backed down. Why do I feel like that? Have you ever had any experiences like that? And how did you handle it? Well it's a long ass comment but if you have the time please tell me what you think Thank you and God bless

Sorry, I'm not Tony but you may consider my opinion if possible. Your question is more of a moral question than a combat-related one. I'd say, if you know you did the right thing, then it's all that matters, because reason and emotion usually contradict. Doing the right things (reason and logic) doesn't always align with how you may feel. Just ask yourself, would you rather have your loved ones protected or your ego protected? Because there're cases you have to pick one, can't have both. Or a bigger question: if you could save humanity like Jesus did by sacrificing yourself, abolishing your ego for a much greater good, then does self-esteem matter anymore? Not to mention you know the reality that you could really wreck that bully should he force your hands, so a display of power is not necessary anymore, for you know what you can and can't do. Reserve that power for when truly needed and let the ignorant underestimate you, so they may one day fear your silence. When you're capable, peaceful measures don't mean you're incompetent, it just means you have power and, more important, your control over it. I know you'd understand as well peace is better than conflict, so if you can solve problems peacefully, then you're already way better than tons of people out there. As for that itching feeling, it's just a matter of time until your heart truly understands and it'll go away. Sorry it's a bit long but hope it helps.
@KennethDuff-hj8ig

Thank you, I truly appreciate that. And I am a Christian, and I love and follow Christ. I understand that I can't protect the "ego" and my kids, I have to pick one or the other. And I choose my kids hands down. Thank you for putting it that way. You nailed it on the head with everything you said. Much respect to you and thank you for taking the time to reply. God bless you and yours
@donniepinns1472
@donniepinns1472 6 месяцев назад
@@KennethDuff-hj8ig Thanks for your blessing as well. Though I'm actually not Christian, but I understand the meaning of Jesus's sacrifice, and if there's something I learn about different faiths, it'd be: the more you can put others' interest before your own (esp. your dear ones), the more accomplished you become as a human being, because by doing that, you're following what Jesus did, only at a much smaller scale, and so the more you will deserve His sacrifice, because you're leading a life of goodness. As humans, we make mistakes, but what's important is to correct them. Sometimes you can try talking and show people where they're wrong if they misbehave, so they make correction and try to build a better relationship with you (of course only talk with those who show signs that they can be reasoned with, and ignore those who're stubborn).

Someone on another channel said something very true. Self Defense is something that happens within the confines of what is legally defensible. Self Defense and Survival are two different things. You weren’t in a Survival situation fighting for your life. You were in a self defense situation - and in that regard, you made the best choice. First encounter you chose De-escalation. Second encounter you stood your ground but avoided conflict. You left with your life and your freedom, and made it home to your family. Ego and Pride gets more people killed than a lack of fighting skills. Then there’s the consideration of being locked up for a long time if you put your boxing on him, and he fell back and hit his head and died or was severely impaired. Now your family is in jeopardy and your life is potentially ruined for, “25-to-Life.” So, as far as self defense goes, you are already a Master with a Black Belt in conflict based decision-making.

In my country, there's a facebook page where people would post fights that happens across the country. I think it would be a nice resource on analyzing street fights. I often see people spam haymakers. Like they won't just throw one and hope for a KO, they would throw dozens of them until the fight gets to the ground. For some reason though, considering the amount of haymakers that I see connect, I seldom see people get knocked down with just one hit, mostly they just get overwhelmed but the blitz of haymakers until they lose balance or simply disengage.

hey tony, big fan of yours. Real good combos and techniques you have taught me man! My question is that on the block with hands method, cant the opponent use a uppercut instead of hook to hit you since your chin isnt covered? once again, big fan of yours tony.
@Rokstarr121
@Rokstarr121 6 месяцев назад
Hypothetically you can get hit with uppercut but not many people, especially drunk idiots somewhere on the streets, know how to throw uppercut so they will rather throw those haymakers. But I would use block only that I don't have any other option because of the risk.
@lance-biggums
@lance-biggums 6 месяцев назад
Uppercut, overhand, straight punch, even a haymaker could get through that high guard, especially with no gloves. It's a last resort. Better to use footwork and head movement if possible.
@CoelhoSports
@CoelhoSports 6 месяцев назад
The back hand has far to travel, especially for someone squared up enough to throw back hand uppercut, compared to the distance a lead left has to travel from someone properly bladed. Also the lead shoulder nullifies much of what the other guy is throwing with the back hand. Standing with shoulders squared and guard high does not really provide any protection at all from someone properly angled and it also takes away your offensive range. You have to learn proper bladed stance and use it and trust it. It isn't intuitive but it works.
@shoxfu_pxrge

25 years ago there was an unwritten rule for street fights where everyone followed it, no punches in the face, no kicking when someone was lying on the ground. After the DDR collapsed and the Eastern Block was open, people also punched each other in the face, knives were now also part of the program. Since the refugee crisis, people have also been kicking people who are lying on the ground.

Hey you always talk about what to do but what about the mindset? How to overcome the fear and the adrenaline rush that you're going to have for someone who has PTSD from previous experience. How do you get your mindset? Because most people don't approach you and to say hey man, let's fight. They're screaming. There's yelling. They're shoving all kinds of slurs and cursing. And what if you're out numbered? You really don't know if they have a weapon so how do you get your mindset there? How do you overcome that paralyzing fear that urge to run away cuz you can't always run away. A street fight against strangers is way different than training in the gym where you're in a safe structured environment
@Kyle_919
@Kyle_919 6 месяцев назад
There’s no easy way to say it but if that’s how you are then it’s best you try to avoid the confrontations completely. You can try joining a few martial arts classes and learn their teachings which will in turn help you develop a better mindset towards combat situations. But if it comes down to it and your fight or flight is telling you to run, it’s best to trust that instinct. Always avoid the fight if you can
@donny9787
@donny9787 6 месяцев назад
Well first of all the idea is to avoid a street fight at all costs especially against multiple attackers. Another thing that's helped me is reminding myself and realizing that despite the person being loud and aggressive, they're also equally as afraid of the consequences of a fight they just don't show it. Sometimes you gotta act tough and stand firm despite being afraid, cause just like a dog that can sense when you're afraid a bully or instigator is gonna latch onto that fear they see in you. Remind yourself your a bad ass mother fucker and the other person is just as afraid as you are
@donny9787
@donny9787 6 месяцев назад
I watched a video of Conor McGregor explaining that when he's staring someone down in the ring he's afraid and nervous but he knows the same emotions are going through the guy on the other end of the ring that really loosened me up and I was like damn if they professional fighters are fighting nerves and adrenaline I'm not that much of a pussy for being afraid or nervous of a confrontation as well. Tony also just put out a short talking about boxing underwear as a way to help train your mind of the stress of holding your breath while boxing underwear to help create an environment of stress like one might feel fighting. It's uncomfortable and not easy that's why drill instructors scream at people and put them in high stress environments to get them used to all the conflict going on in the midst of a battle scenario
@feastmode7931
@feastmode7931 6 месяцев назад
in addition to everyone else's wonderful tips - don't be afraid to run, avoid fights at all costs, bluff being calm and ready if you must - I suggest one more thing: learn how to take a hit. in a safe setting, of course, like a boxing class. and nothing too crazy that could actually hurt you. but the act of getting hit in the face or body is a very, very foreign sensation for most. learning that i can take an "average" punch, respond with intent, and survive has been a great relief to me, mentally.

Best defence in a streetfight. 6.5 min mile running abiltiy. Just get out of there. Pride before a fall. And if you are butt hurt about that. Counter it with training boxing/thai boxing etc and get yourself in the ring for a amateur bout to prove yourself there. I have some accolades from pro bouts in muay thai...im done. I'm proven 😂, I'll just jog on mate, leg it! I have an executive job.
