In this video I will be showing you how you can use your old Joystick, Pedal and Controllers with Modern systems. The good old 15 pin Gameport over to USB.
It's really simple and relatively inexpensive to do so for all you retro freaks like me out there!
USB Nest (Rockfire gameport to USB Adapter) was originally made for Windows 95 back in 1993, yet even in 2016 and 2017 it STILL works with all the newest operating systems like Windows 10, Windows 8.1 and Windows 7.
There are so many games you can play joysticks with and with this little trick you can now play modern games with older joysticks and controllers such as the X- Series, Star Wars Tie Fighters, Elite Dangerous, Microsoft Flight Simulator, and probably even Battlefield 3, 4 and 1.
I would offer links to this item but they're spread far and wide so you use whatever vendor you can find that sells them!

Other products are available that do the same thing, a good example would be the LogiLink USB adapter, Super Joy Box 8 adapter, Super Joy Box 7 and others.

I think it speaks more the quality of modern controllers compared to older ones. I have a Hotas style flightstick from the 90s that still works and plays great yet modern ones only last a few months. Things were made to last back then.

Thanks for demonstrating this adapter; it basically DOES work when using standard analog joysticks with game port connectors, via this USB bridge. BUT: for all I know I cannot use it for my trustworthy V3 (SV280) racing wheel on Win10. Somehow it misinterprets the pedals and more importantly the steering motion, in an weird way: it does proportionally react in one direction, but oddly jumps to max in the other. What appears to be trivial (sense the resistance of the rotating wheel potentiometer and react proportionally) just does not work. I tried all 'game settings' on the adapter, I tried swapping the driver files (WHICH ONE TO USE?). Rumor has it that there is a '"Universal Joystick Driver" from Speedlink; it installs, but does not even show up as USB device to select on either of my Win10 machines. Others claim that a six button controller driver may work, yet I cannot even locate or download anything that fits to Win10. Needless to say that the Win9x driver stuff is not supported by BillyBoy's Windoze - thanks for nothing, dude! Any ideas? I hate to keep a Win2000 PC alive just to play NeedForSpeed 'Porsche Edition' once a year on a 7m2 beamer screen.. Thanks for showing! BTW: This RockFire device can/could be bought at AliExpress for around US$18.

Used this on a Ch rudder pro pedal set and could not get the rudder axis to work. If I flip the switch on the rudder base the axis for left/right pedals works (clutch & gas). I've tried switching the nest with no luck. This was on a new CH rudder pro pedal set.

It works with Avant Garde, Bazooka Fighter & Thrustmaster FCS Compatibles, Maya Fighter and CH Flightstick Pro (and probably some more), but it does NOT work with MS Sidewinder.

Windows 10/11 - Didnt work for the Classic Microsoft Sidewinder 8 button gamepad. It registered but the inputs were auto pressing and some buttons didnt work at all.

Open them up, throw away all electronics except buttons, potentiometers and wires... hook it up to an arduino with the ATmega32U4 chip, and now it works again!

I am pretty sure it works on xp also?Some times they only put new computers on but in blue moon they might work,plug play with xp.

Hello, My name is John. So, I have a Rockfire 15 pin game adapter just as show on your video that I just purchased recently in 2023 online to go with my old Microsoft sidewinder joystick that has three wheels on each side of the joystick. I am utilizing a dell laptop with Windows 10. I plug the rockfire into a usb slot, system recognizes joystick in the system, after going to joy.cpl the setting shows the joy and I start moving the joystick and wheels, buttons to test everything, shows everything seems already calibrated. My dumb question now. How do I actually utilize the joystick to play games like online, or on my system. Because I can't seem actually use it. Like Window 10 does not recognize it? I tried switching different modes too, If I am doing so correctly. Thanks.

yeah but most modern motherboards don't include pci slots anymore. You could also get a pcie to pci bridge, but that's an ugly solution.

Mode 1: Avant Garde, Bazooka Fighter and Thrustmaster FCS compatibles. Mode 2: Maya Fighter and CH Flightstick Pro compatibles Mode 3: Fire Plus, Fire Dragon and other 4-axis, 4-button joystick compatibles. Mode 4: Silver Hawk II, Space Ranger and other sophisticated 2-axis, 8-button gamepad compatibles. I took this information on the box.

Your video is cool and all but do you know if this USB Nest will work with the old CH Products Virtual Pilot Pro Yoke. The Yoke has one male gameport connection. The Yoke has 6 buttons, 5 switches, 4 Axis (Left, Right, In, Out). I just bought this thing cheap on Ebay because I read online that it could be done.

The only thing I don't get working with the CH Virtual Pilot Pro is roll the aircraft in X-Plane 11. All other things (buttons, axes) do work. The throttle works but then only on 1 engine. My CH old rudder pedals do work in X-Plane 11 completely. There are 4 modes on it and I should try all 4 of them. Haven't had the time to do that.

That is not a standard Gameport controller. I also own a 15 pin female connector joystick that plugs into a small convertor box (with a cord with a Male 15 pin Gameport plug coming out of it) that it came packaged with. Maybe you have the same controller that I have.

Thanks so much for that: I'd first come across these a few years ago on a ebay, but really wasn't sure if they'd actually work (like so much Chinese cack found on there that I've bought before and has turned out to be utterly useless)! However, I've got an excellent old pair of Thrustmast Elite rudder pedals for flight sims, but it has a double connection: a standard 15-pin, but which is split with a female 15-pin for a joystick to connect to it...No idea whether this will work with these buggers? (Aiming to get back into flight simming, and don't want to shell out on new pedals if I don't have to!)

I am having that same problem with Sidewinder Precision Pro but didn't check the systems that it works for first. Any one know of the right one for Windows 10? Update. I just saw some that work on Windows 10.

NOw I have one that is made for the Sidewinder and it says it failed for driver...I tried right clicking over it and nothing happened. I guess in the video that is not Windows 10. I just want to check my systems. One said Eve is working for this controller. I guess I should get this game as I heard it works for it and make real money as it pays you to play!! and is fun!! But I think I will get a universal adapter as well. Maybe I can get the Sidewinder to work...and the Xbox joystick for PS2 and PS3 and pc. Any suggestions for one?

Not for my V3 (SV280) racing wheel on Win10.. I am fighting since days to find a driver/setting that can control the pedals and steering mechanism. It ALMOST works, but misinterprets the left/right in a weird way. The USB controller shown is basically OK, controls my Interact SV214 flight stick fine. I am desperately searching for OTHER USB based game drivers that will work in Win10 and can be swapped out in the game controller settings of this adapter. No luck so far. If anybody knows a way to get the SV280 racing wheel to work on Win10, please report! I keep an ancient Win2000 PC alive just to play "NeedForSpeed Porsche"..

Ive tried it on my Ms Sidewinder FFB Pro, wasnt working, it did recognize signals form the stick but obviously couldnt handle digital signals. (at least not Microsoft Sidewinder Interfaces)

It is sad you have to state that Universal Serial Bus, whatever version, works with every version of Windows.

Yes but remember that not every version of windows is promised to have a driver with all USB peripherals. For example some early USB webcams and capture devices do not work with Windows 10 as they removed support. I also haven't tested this with Windows 11 yet ;)

Star Wars TIE Fighter Special Edition on Steam. Doesn't appear to launch without a joystick so was pleasantly surprised and pleased that this works straight out of the box! :D

Maybe it's no conversion; it's emulation. This could explain why some devices work and some do not. And it could explain why there are 4 fixed types of devices, according to the selected "mode". Given this, I am pretty sure it could work with my Sidewinder, but it's more likely going to be hacked to act as a button pad for my future Raspberry Pi handheld retroconsole through GPIO. So I need no conversion, just plain contacts.

@@DavidCu I got one of these adapters and it did not work with my Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feed Back Pro. I guess it is because of the force feed back function. May be it works only with regular sidewinders... but I really do not know.

You could build your own converter with arduino, there are many tutorials... Or you could just hook up the buttons and potentiometers to an arduino leonardo and it will work.
