You have perfectly articulated why I feel overwhelmed and totally devoid of energy all the time, haha. One thing I am taking away from this is to have more self-compassion, adjust expectations, and stop comparing myself to the seasoned RU-vidrs who have been around forever. Baby steps! If learning takes up a bunch of my time, it's okay.
@RobertoBlake

Thanks for sharing!! It was my hope with these last 2 videos to accomplish exactly that and give realistic advice on how to deal with it and move forward. I don't mean to sound harsh saying it, but Small RU-vidrs really need to stop watching people with millions of subscribers. For most it's just going to give them imposter syndrome and impossible standards.

I am a working single mom in my early 40s and I was talking to my friend who is married with kids in his 30s and we both had to come to the realization that as creators with responsibilities we just couldn't devote the time we really want to our content. We would love to put out more polished content but we are learning everything from the ground up...and while it sucks having to sacrifice quality, if we tried for perfection we'd hardly get anything done.

Really appreciated this honest assessment. I'm 50+, full-time job, three kids, and just launched my channel this year. I even know the basics of video production and have decent equipment, and it's still a challenge. One of the best strategies I've found is to do specific tasks in chunks... make 10 thumbnails all at once, film 10 videos at once, edit 10 videos at once, upload 10 at once and schedule them out at regular intervals. It gives you a little breathing room and helps get you up the learning curve faster.

I'm on my 5th year here on RU-vid. I've been watching RU-vid Gurus and heeding their advice from the start. However, 80% of it proved to not apply to my niche. I've spoken to many creators in the guitar gear demo community, and they all say the same thing: average RU-vid advice does not work for our niche. I still watch your channel as it is clear that your advice comes from experience and not just rehashing the same information that others are already serving. Cheers

I constantly feel overwhelmed and unsure, but I know my goals and what I want to do. I used to do more editing after I learned each step, but have since focused more on Titles and Thumbnails. Would it be safe to say that a new creator should consider what commitments they want to adhere to early on in terms of frequency of uploads and the duration? Like a bi-weekly topic/theme used as platform for a 30 minute video, with 2, 5 minute videos that either extend the subject matter, respond to comments, or gives updates/notifications of the next topic?
@RobertoBlake
@RobertoBlake Год назад
I would say they very much need to be realistic about it and base it on aspects of their lifestyle too. Because you can only be as consistent as your lifestyle allows for. Your idea could work but it depends. Maybe a combination of 30 minute videos but also maybe a livestream for the community and if you want, shorts that introduce concepts to people.
@theartfulsage8625
@theartfulsage8625 Год назад
I see, shorts and live streams should be accounted for in the pre-planning in support of consistently making content reasonably. So as an introduction, would it be beneficial to upload a series of videos associated with one another, but stand well of their own? Like a multifaceted mission statement of sorts?

It's always refreshing to see a RU-vidr who is honest and direct. So many others just repeat what everyone else says or they don't remember their own journey. I also like how you acknowledge that many (if not most) of us aren't doing this full-time, so we don't have the same opportunities as others. As a music creator, the easiest thing for me to do was make my beats, upload them to my distributor and let the distributor automatically upload to RU-vid for me on a weekly basis. I claimed my "Topic" channel, linked it to my main channel and if I have the time to make some additional videos, I will. Overall, it's lifted a lot of pressure off of me to constantly try and create content. If one of my beats do well -- Great, if not then hopefully the next one.

I agree partially in that competing with the RU-vid “stars” is unrealistic while working a 9-5 BUT being complacent with marginal quality I feel leads to a limitation down the road. Personally I published a video a week for two years, I recently dropped to twice a month and feel rejuvenated having some extra time to polish the content and get back to making each video a little better than the last.

But you intiially were consistent…. Which means you LEARNED through repetitive and consistent work FIRST how to do better with less…. You can’t just skip that process. Use my 90 D Canon camera as well but you heard not motivating young RU-vidrs at all like this is terrible I feel like quality is a plus you must know quality and editing is not really all that. Quality is not up to par. It looks very dark in the back I mean I could tell you have a nice microphone, but it’s very dark and dim in the light quality is not up to par in your video, but you have very high subscribers I think it’s because you know the proper title to use and talk about the right proper topic and I think that’s what made your channel so popular but this video really wasn’t helpful. I hope your next one will be more helpful.

This comment just proves that subjective quality is not reliable and it’s relative because your opinion of the lighting and overall production… based on the comments and on the numbers and every other data point is the far minority opinion… Meanwhile there are an endless number of creators making extravagant high quality content as you describe it and getting very little for it.

This hits me hard I have 5 K subs channel and my subscriber keep saying that my quality is on par with the top channel in my niche in my country, but I just cant compete with them I have 9-5 jobs family and the top channel : Full time youtube have a team have more resouces bunch of times when that channel uploaded My views stop rising while the video is rising in views , man Idk if this comment will be seen by you but thankyou for making this video and giving the right advise not quality over quantity.

Wow...I completely thought it was QUALITY first. I'm a working-class content creator and it really is a second job. It was taking me 19hrs on average to make ONE video when I first started. 4-months in, I'm down to 14hrs on average per video, today. I'm still not able to upload consistently, yet. Shorts are helping me grow subscribers. On the flip side, watch time is down on the long-form content. Keeping the big picture vision in mind keeps me going! Wish I could do this full time already. Great video, thank you!

Shorts are definitely proof there is an audience willing to consume content that focuses less on quality and the largest creators can make is seem otherwise but many creators are growing today with “ACCEPTABLE QUALITY”… it just can’t be poor quality. A lot of people only live in those two extremes. But perfect is often the enemy of good.

Just watching this makes me realize that I'm the biggest hurtle in growing my chanel. I keep comparing myself to other larger, more experienced channels when I'm still in the baby stages. Thanks for the video, Roberto. There are a lot to take to my channel and start the growth.

So if you are creating content consistently would you suggest focusing on creating searchable content or just create high value content in your niche? How much do the titles and tags help?
@RobertoBlake
@RobertoBlake 4 месяца назад
It’s not either or. Make content that is high value but also searchable and shareable
@Nextgenearningsacademy
@Nextgenearningsacademy 4 месяца назад
@@RobertoBlake Thank you for the response. I asked the wrong question. What I should have asked is, for a beginner should you focus on high value searchable content, or trending topics? I struggle with trending topics and get imposter syndrome.

Excellent video and an extremely hard pill to swollow. Some people are so focused on trying to make perfect videos, they don't post anything until it meets their imaginary margin. And then when they finally post, it doesnt get as many views as they thought they were going to get and they quit early on. You can't sharpen your blade by sliding it on a file just once.

Honestly, you always give one of the best advices here for small content creators on this platform. You say what needs to be heard by us working class content creators. Will definitely try and implement your strategies. Thank you!

Maybe im just not that good of a content creator but every time i try uploading more videos i get little to no subscribers but when i upload 2-3 times a week i gain and maintain subscribers, i think the quality vs quantity argument varies per person per genre. But i do agree with your old advice about everyone doing the 30 day youtube challenge , i did it last month and what i noticed is it help me focus on the type of content i want to make.

Dude the algorithm curated this video for me perfectly. I'm up at 4am to get ready for work and I'm not back home until 5:30-6:00 in the evening at least 5 days a week. I come home exhausted physically and mentally and I'm exactly as new to content creation as you describe.it took me weeks to fix my studio the way I have it. It took me another couple of weeks to sack up and put out my first video. Everything is budget. Camera, mixer, mic, lights, PC, all the software, etc. I'm single so I prepare dinner, eat, clean up, and start working on content for maybe 2-3 hours before bed.

Seeing the Graph at 1:38 I was pleasantly surprised on video count/subscribers I'm currently at 251 videos with 18k subscribers. Full disclosure my content is A.I created 18+ model images in a slideshow format, I started the channel late Oct 2022 & the "content " I created started to really take off mid January this year. Unable to monetise due to the nature of the content I am looking for other avenues to make money if any at all. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

What about making enough content for a few weeks that still fits the audience that qualifies for monetizing with ads?
@SDVGUY
@SDVGUY Год назад
@@RobertoBlake I did qualify last Feb, however with the "content", it was deemed not within youtubes quiteria & format. I have over 100,000 plus watch hours & creeping to 19k Subscribers with a channel view count of 6,000,000. I appreciate the response. I do understand the response now that I've "really" processed it, even with a lighter more youtube friendly format, wouldn't the entire channel still be a reflection of what they would be looking at, rather than the friendlier content that I may have posted?

I work 40+ hours a week, and only have time to focus on creating after work,, then sleep.. and get up to do it again next day.. Maybe one day, I will be able to do videos for a living.. but not yet.. I use an editing software, Filmora.. I payed like $50 back when I paid for it.. for life.. It does okay, but still don't know all the features of it. I am at 577 subs.. It's growing, but slowly.. Only a few hours each night to work on things.. my channel is gaming channel, so not much brainstorming, other than.. What kind of video do people want to see.. and what game do people want to see..

WWWWWHHHHHOOOOOOOOO!!! PREACH IT ROBERTO!!! I'm a mom of four, wife and teacher and I am documenting my health journey plus motherhood, lifestyle content (and my content and lifestyle is not what you see on YT) and you are preaching to the choir. I've love listening to these types of videos, but I take EVERYTHING with a grain of salt. I never listened to niching down because I love sharing EVERYTHING lol. But I loved everything you said in this video.
