If you're reading this - don't give up. Consistency in action will lead you to success. I've been recording for just a month, and I've already had moments of doubt. Every time I face a bigger problem, those moments come, but I keep moving forward, learning, dedicating hours to handle the camera better, and creating better videos. Every problem gives you lessons and makes you stronger; you just have to push through. Don't give up; I'm praying for you and myself - you will achieve your goal! :)
Don't forget that being a RU-vidr is very similar to running your own business. You should upload things people want to see, just like businessman should offer product/service that people need. The most difficult part is starting and growing of course, but consistency and hard work (with a little bit of Famester of course) will help massively and will pay off eventually. Good luck to everybody, we will all succeed one day!!
Started my channel over a year ago and I'm pretty satisfied with my growth. Your advice helped me a lot with that. My main problem is being consistent and putting out videos every week. So my goal in 2024 is to figure out better systems around my content creation and make 50 videos in a year. I also want to try selling t-shirts and my own product in form of folklore/fairy tale book. So we'll see how it goes.
Any advice on fixing a dying youtube channel? i been going strong for 10 years and got over 20k subs but my views are at a all time low and my growth is essentially non existent. Ive considered just switching genres or just starting a new channel from scratch.
80/20 rule. Figure out the top 20% of videos that grew views and subscribers. Make a strategy to make 100 videos exclusively based on duplicating their success
I checked your profile out I seen you have a somewhat reoccurring theme that in your most popular videos and there topic and ideas I recommend strategizing some videos every now and again around those that are a bit different or remastered or improved for today if there still relevant I would look into improving thumbnail quality and how to be more captivating and colorful thumbnails your thumbnails look a bit more on the dry end just constructive feedback!
there is a lady, i wont say the channel,, but her videos keep showing up on my home page, so i watched a couple… she was at 700 subs just a few weeks ago… she walks around her trailer/home and cleans dishes, or makes a simple breakfast, or whatever and that channel blew up to over 5k subs in just a few weeks. she even did one on how someone delivered her groceries and she put each item in front of her camera/phone and people loved it. the filming and sound is all over the place, but no one seems to mind. I bought new mics, updated my ipad, bought some things to make it smoother when i carry it, tons of things and im still under 1k, lol. i just have to smh, lol. 😅
@@RobertoBlake agreed but i simply was “studying” her channel, since youtube kept pushing it, and she is just very low key, one day complained that she didnt feel like cleaning her kitchen, but set the camera up and cleaned dishes and stuff, and people at that up, lol. i do things like ‘a jollibee grand opening” and no one sees it, lol. did a whole review, even had the hubby in parts of it, the place was packed. but i truly think its just what youtube puts out there. people wont see mine it doesnt show up on their home page. i even finally figured out how to do thumbnails, with more “umph” to it. but i will just keep plugging away. i do enjoy it, and am hoping it gets going after years of doing it. i didnt really try pushing videos until the hubby said he loves my cooking, i should put it on youtube, so i do that and more, thus “stuff” is in the name. lol
I got some good insight from this video. Because, I've been thinking about starting a 2nd channel down the road from now in like 2025-2026. Thanks for the video!
@RobertoBlake Definitely the first 4 minutes. Picking the right niche that can give me consistent new topics to talk about is huge. There are some games I'm interested in making content about, but it wouldn't belong on my main channel. BUT, at the same time it wouldn't make sense to make a 2nd channel either because eventually interest in that game would fall off fast since it's a single player game that would eventually stop receiving content. Here's where a dedicated Pokémon or MiHoYo (Genshin Impact and Honkai Star Rail) channel would perfectly fit. You're constantly getting new content from the developers, and the audience is there.
@@RobertoBlake honestly being consistent, not paying attention to the negative comments, watching your videos and changing my mind set on how I wanted to approach my RU-vid channel to make it a full time gig. I always have wanted to be a full time RU-vidr and your videos and books have helped me learn to study my analytics and grow. Best thing I could tell someone who is just getting started to never give up on yourself, and have consistent schedule to upload videos and shorts and just press record. It’s harder to get started at first but I’m slowly getting into a grove of making my videos and content and I have been absolutely loving it.
Unrelated: Roberto seems like a genuinely good person. He has literally changed and saved lives. He is part of the reason I was able to become a full-time content creator on Tiktok after I took his advice and tips over the last 7 years or so. I really hope he finds that special someone if he hasn't already because he deserves nothing but happiness. As a long-time fan, thank you brotha!
I had to step away from RU-vid for a bit, not because of burnout, but because of time. I am, after all, a full time author and publisher. The time I've been spending editing videos, kept taking time from that. Hopefully once I return from vacation, I can get back to author business in the morning, RU-vid in the evening and keep raw footage under 20 minutes. Side note: I love that Mac cover! Every time I see it, all my favorite colors!
@@RobertoBlake Video edits, yes, since we do live in Europe. Since we returned (Jan 23), I've written 3 books uploaded 4 videos and 6 scripts written. Just need to record them more clean to have less/ quicker editing.
Nice one Roberto. A deep dive on stuff and some reality checks for all of us. I was just talking to the missus that I always admire the process of a successful person rather admiring his/her wealth. We all need to believe in a process and constant learning and applying the knowledge into our RU-vid practice. Thanks again mate. Take it easy and most importantly stay Blessed 🙂
I have learned so much from Roberto for the past 3 yrs and I'm still learning from his vids. Always something new and innovative. Always gives me something to work on next. :-) RU-vid is EVER LEARNING ! Thank you Roberto
So I had 300 followers on my former channel, but on my last channel, I could care less about pleasing people. Actually, I'm more passionate about streaming, but let's be honest, Twitch is too saturated. This new channel lets me experiment with new audiences. My internet is too shit, but I really want to stream. People told me in the past, ''I don't want negativity; I want you to entertain.'' Wish me luck. I'm restarting from scratch.
@@RobertoBlake Well, the fun thing with this is when I move out of this guesthouse and the worst internet of all time , finish this contract, and be on my own. Kick is open and RU-vid streaming exists. I think I'm not trying to put all my eggs in the same basket. Well, that's a lie, because I did test Twitch, and yes, you can grow. cause 9 streams in a week, I grew 20 followers, so yes, it is possible, but you are going to stream to 2 viewers, after's 5 viewers and there are so many 1 viewer people. Maybe Kick is the option for streamers; I will see .Anyone can stream. Ironmouse started on a shitty laptop .she had rented model and streamed to five viewers for years. Actually, her story is great to tell. She battle a sickness and worked and worked. She never complained because, ''Oh, I'm sick. I don't have this.'' She put in the work. I need to get rid of that pessimism I have. To finish, yes, I am placing sh*t show content to start.
Thanks Roberto this was a very helpful and informative video that I got alot of value out of even had to watch it twice keep the gems coming peace and blessings.
I love gaming and my two cats. These two are basically where I spend most of my time outside of work. I always wanted to make my own channel and start uploading videos because I feel like positive experiences are more enjoyable when shared with others. Your videos has encouraged me to finally make a channel and upload my first video!
I just started my motivational channel less than two months ago. I spent 5 to 8 hours everyday making and editing my videos within tha last two months. But I do not get subs and views. I am so frustrated right now.
Ikigai is an upcoming multi-video series releasing in January and February that I've been working on! However, through mid-January, my content is only Talking Head with basic edits so I can take 5 weeks off of producing a ridiculous amount of daily content. Were shooting hundreds of shorts and content for two existing channels and a new channel that will start soon. There is something refreshing, yet nerve-wracking, about moving to the other side of the globe, without the high-tech gear, to refresh and discover new wonders to revitalize my motivation and concepts of what the World needs to see and hear. Thank Roberto for all that you do and inspire us to do!!!!
It does seem like a slow progress, but remember! It's quality over quantity. In time we will acquire the right type of subscribers that genuinely enjoy our content. Plus it's easier if you enjoy creating your content to begin with.
Thank you for sharing, I am trying to revive my channel, I watch your videos and follow your advices my growth is super slow but I will keep at it wish me luck
For reviving the channel… look to the top 20 Best videos for views and subscribers and new viewers… Analyze them and find patterns… then use those patterns to turn each video idea into a series or trilogy until you’ve come up with 100 ideas- Then execute on those ideas in a year
Started another RU-vid channel in my niche as the previous channels did not make the cut. Finally this one seems to be growing and much faster than previous, hopeful this time. Thanks for the great advice.
Yes I would like any product recommendations you have, and maybe how to position it effectively. Any other tips you think would be helpful such as what to do in a small space, low budget, glare against glasses, etc.@@RobertoBlake
What’s so frustrating about the storytelling thing in my niche is I see people drone on about this and that and not getting to the point. Apparently (from seeing their views) people like that. On the other hand, friends who have watched mine say they are very professional. I’m constantly trying to level up but I have to figure out what is good storytelling and what is just fluff. Thank you so much for this!!🏆🏆🙌🏻
Perfect info ROBERTO. content pillars/ individual video ideas for those pillars. That's right where I need to work on right now. I just didn't have a word for my thought
Hello im really trying to become a Real and Great RU-vidr but im almost ready to just give up thank you for this great information hope you have a very wonderful and Blessed day Sir ❤
I was doing well with uploading videos until a few months ago and my issue was gaining subscribers and watch time. Need to get back to my content pillars and work on my thumbnail and editing. Most importantly put my audience first.
This definitely helps me as a small RU-vidr my only question is should I delete all my old stuff and start solid or just take this and go with it or start a new RU-vid completely?
@@RobertoBlake the previous content was just random stuff with no alignment my goal is to be able to do RU-vid full time as a travel vloger I think I will keep this channel for my own personal enjoyment and create a channel strictly audience first thanks for the advice
Topic, Title, Thumbnail, and Timing. 👏🏾 Love how you put that. In regards to having a dedicated camera, I would say that a dedicated camera is not needed, particularly if you have something like an Apple iPhone 15, Google Pixel 8, or Sony Xperia 1 V. 📱
There is an expiration date for any niche (even those vapid adolscent entertianment channels--how many TV series made 5 years let alone 10 or 20 years?)
A video on the best lighting for RU-vid would definitely be so useful! It's so clear that you not only love doing RU-vid, but are so knowledgeable on all the behind the scenes aspects. Thanks so much for sharing and have a great start to 2024 ☺
I just watched a couple of your videos on your channel: I’m no expert and I know you didn’t ask me but I’d recommend putting a voice over or some sort of editing to your videos. Don’t get me wrong, watching a few minutes of pure gameplay is a really useful way to get the feel for a game, but I think the viewer might just get engrossed in the game and forget to engage with your video. (I know it might be cringe to ask for Likes, but everyone always does it bc it reminds folks to give a little something for the value you just provided them by uploading the video they just watched.) Also, if you don’t edit or add a cam or voice over commentary, there’s nothing to distinguish your channel from other channels who upload pure gameplay. And if you don’t make jokes or ask questions or anything, there’s not an easy hook to encourage folks to comment a reply or any other ideas they got from watching your vid. I’d also recommend more accurate and specific titles for your videos. Like “Watch me get 4 kills in Call of Duty” or “40 minutes of uninterrupted Aviator Tactics gameplay”. When I saw your thumbnails and titles I didn’t know what to expect bc they were both vague. It also would be a good idea to make your thumbnails more uniform and add your logo to it, so that even on a tiny phone screen folks can recognize your videos. Just my 2 cents. Honestly just intending to help. 🙂👍
@@rapidfire670 there are a lot of free softwares out there for editing and making your own thumbnails. Roberto probably has a video or 2 about it, and I’m sure there are loads of other channels with recommended software. I use Photos Legacy (free on Windows 10) to edit and Photoshop for my thumbnails (I’m really picky about how my thumbnails look 🤣🤣😁)
FINALLY, Someone who tells the truth. I kept hearing start your channel even if you are not ready etc etc, and I did. I chose the wrong niche, I have no talent, I didn't know I was going to have to learn editing, thumbnail making, photography, audio, and spend hours and hours trying to put out a video, only to have two people watch it. So I failed, my channel is an abject failure and I don't think I will even think about starting. a new one until I have some of these skills down to where I'm confident to return.
I'm sorry you feel that way. But some of the skills you will need to pick just by doing them, and seeing what works. Finding videos to help you on these tasks, like editing, will help. But you need to put up a finished product to gauge your own skills and figure out how to do things. It's heartbreaking, yeah. But you won't learn if you don't do. That's why they all say to start ugly, just get started, because you'll learn some of these things the hard way as you go along.
@@manateelocal The point I was trying to make is that he is telling the truth and not glorifying it like some other channels do. A lot of research should be done so you know what you're getting into.
Hi Roberto, I’ve been following your channel for a long time and now I’m ready to start my RU-vid channel. I wish I had started sooner like six years ago, but I really didn’t have the dedication for it and now I do. One of the things that happened to me is that I used to use Dropbox to back up all of my photos and videos but it ruined a lot of them because it didn’t upload them properly so now I switched to iCloud. I’m going to start my channel with what I have (cell phone) but what I’m finding out is that the most important things I really need are tripods to hold the phone in different ways. I plan on getting a selfie camera but for now I’m going to start my channel with old photography, narration, and some new video. My first step is to create the social media channels with my selected screen name, a new email address, and graphics for introduction to each video. I’m going to do 99 Cents store finds, diy howto’s, and blog narrated slideshows from my garden. I’ll let you know how it goes later this year.
"Pretty privilege is a thing." BOOM! Thank you for being real. I've been biting my tongue off about this point. Young and attractive is an advantage in a visual medium. This is the best honest breakdown of the challenges of creating a YT channel I've seen so far.
Good vid! Been thinking about starting up again. Just not sure where to start. New channel or existing channel with a majority of subs that came from a short. 🤔
@RobertoBlake....Great content as always but I'm really interested in where or website did you get that very nice skin on your apple laptop? Are anyone else, please comment on who or what are some great websites for great skins on electronic devices such as laptops. Prefer the skins over a laptop cover but not opposed to very nice laptop covers as well. Much help appreciated. Thanks
I just subscribed! Great wealth of knowledge and I’m glad someone referred you to me. I’m trying to grow my channel that is struggling so I’m glad to learn
Hey bro, can you or someone please help me understand this ? My RU-vid channel was made on the 10 of July 2023, I currently have over 2400 subscribers as of this moment. But before I got a RU-vid strike warning probably three months ago before I hit the monetization requirements, so when I got the warning strike I was not over 1000 subscribers and was not eligible for monetization yet, and also when I got the warning strike, I did not do the policy training training, but then I realized I didn’t so a month after and I completed it. When I did so, it said that my warning would be removed in 90 days (expires on 1 January). As I said I’m currently on 2400 subscribers and have over 4000 watch hours but, I haven’t build channel history to get monetized for my channel. Could this be Because I have to wait for my warning to expire (Can the warning strike be the problem) or can it be because my channel is still too young ? (I made my channel on 10th of July 2023 and it is now 26th of December 2023).
Any info on watch hours? I received 1163 watch hours in last 11 days on 4 videos collectively…finally doing good. My watch hour went up to 1123 but just went down to 500? I can’t find any info on this online.
I ahve been watching your start a youtube videos for years. I love how this one is straight to the point. Thank you! I started my channel years ago but I know the reason it hasn't grown is because i was struggling to find that thing for me. I knew it was gaming but now i have have my thing which is story based games. Now using this video I know i need to tighten my thumbnails up more(even though I suck at thumbnails. 😅) hopefully next by next year i find my target audience. So thank you again for this. Greatly appreciated.
So when it comes to thumbnails@@RobertoBlake When it comes to thumbnails my original plan was to hire someone. That worked for a while but not on my pockets lol. so lately I hve been trying new things. My goal is to focus on the artistic point of view. One thumbnail I saw work was my spiderman 2 finale live stream. where i have Venom as the picture and kind of like a blood streaming on the front of it. I know faces work better for thumbnails so im going to start using that more , also.
I like your points on this topic. I just started a channel and I am working on the branding and topics you spoke on. My focus is leadership and motivation which is based on my military service and experience that transitioned into the civilian world.
Thanks for making these videos! I’m about 2 1/2 months into making content! I’m at 1.1k subs, but need to get my watch time up! I’m learning as i go! Thanks again
@@Santanabvlogs Since this comment I’m currently up to almost 7k subs, getting subs is the easy part and doesn’t really matter after 1000. The hard part is getting watch time hours. I’m only at 1000. You just have to put out content and make your videos a little better each time. You also have to post consistently or at least once a week .
@FloridaNativeFishingChannel hello sir the fact u took the time to get bak to little old me🙂↕️ & gave me all dis advice was so sweet. Thx u so mch not only ave I subscribe I WILL be watching ur videos to get ur watch time up💕thx u so much frm da 🇬🇧
so if i strugle to find what to talk about in my gaming videos adn i have already talked about what im gonna do what ealse could i talk about for like 25 min?
say you didnt want to do face cam stuff right away, would the lighting still be important since nobody is seeing your surroundings? i feel like its pretty obvious but i just want to ask just in case
