You never have to worry about the length of your or anyone else’s videos, Lindsey. Those that want all of your invaluable information will never complain and your dedication is so appreciated. 💖
Well said for sure! I found it very helpful! I especially liked the long video. Thank you for taking your time to show us this. For those of us that enjoy having teachers teach us, we will NEVER complain!
I agree! People spend tons of money on master classes. If I get those kinds of informative videos for free, I just shut my mouth and say thank you. Entitlement is an ugly characteristic, let's learn to be grateful.
I think the most important thing I learned from you I hadn't realized since swatching colors was to put a hole in the middle of it so you can put something underneath to see how it looks. Such a simple little tip that makes a huge difference. Thanks
Oh for the love of Bob. You are saving people years, literally YEARS of trial and error and perhaps giving up . Throw out the length disclaimer and; Let them go, let them go 🎼🎵🎶 the length never bothered me anyway.💙💙
Lindsey, I watched 50 seconds of your video and had to write this. I am of the opinion that education and learning is not possible in short bursts of 15 minutes; that's not education that's an infomercial. To understand a subject requires time, patience and some discipline. I would not worry so much about the complaints of people who are inpatient that a video takes a little time to explore an important subject. Especially since we are given tools to speed up the process (Play Back feature allows viewers to speed up the video from 1.25 to 2 times the speed making a one hour video 30 minutes) or, watch it in segments, a little at a time. Most of those same people have no problem watching a Marvel movie that runs 2 hours and 20 minutes. Lindsey, just keep producing quality content no matter what the duration and continue teaching us uncultured people that we can be artistic too🤓🤓! Lisa
I love your long videos, you can’t absorb good info without lots of examples and tips. I know it takes a lot of time and effort to make longer vids and i appreciate all the time you took for this one. TFS!
I totally agree. I love her longer videos too because they are packed with useful information. I also feel she teaches rather than just rambling too, so well worth watching a long video!
I agree too! Lindsay's depth of knowledge can't be imparted in five minutes. If people don't want to watch a longer video with thorough explanations and lots of examples, well nobody is forcing them to!
Excellent video!! Focus on the positive comments! When you race through because you fear a negative comment about the length of the information it’s not as pleasant to the ear as usual. Those that want fast can speed it up or find sound bite information. Be you!!
Why do people complain??? That's what "pause" is for. duh. You're awesome. Keep doing you. BUNDLE UP THE MATCHING COLORS!!!! Why didn't I think of that??? I appreciate you talking out your process and methodology. Mostly, I appreciate your positive attitude!!
Maybe I am one of the "odd" here......but I actually prefer seeing the demo videos in "real" time. I enjoy setting for hours and watching coloring videos where someone actually takes the time to explain the steps and to see what they are doing, without the videos being speeded up. I have enjoyed your videos for years and ALWAYS get such great tips and information. Please don't shorten your videos. TFS Hugs
Hi Lindsay, You should not pay attention to those people who say your videos are too long. For one, I and many other like the way you explain in detail how to do it right and rush through it. I prefer to have one take a hour and explain it to me, than to have someone take 5 minutes, show it real quick and I got nothing out it. Swatching takes a long time to do. I have the Ohuhu makers and I did my swatch, the same day that received them. The tag idea was great, I will have to do that when I get some time. I want to thank you so very much for taking the time to do what you do. You are one of a kind, with a heart of gold Lindsay.
You put the warning of the long video right upfront, so the Naysayers can go away. Personally I love a long video and I can always fast-forward if I want to, or come back and watch more later. I really got a lot out of the idea of bundling the markers in colour groupings. I have both Copics and Spectrum Noirs and it would make sense to mix the two brands this way if my storage system would permit. Great info in this video and we appreciate your advice and expertise. TFS.
Thank you for taking the time to explain all of this. It is obvious that you have spent A LOT of time prepping all the swatches and planning the examples. We also get to glean from your years of experience and dedication. i appreciate it.
Thank-you for encouraging your viewers to “use what you have” instead of feeling badly that the purchase wasn’t ‘good enough”. Not everyone needs professional quality supplies. The point is enjoying the process.
No complaints here. You can't expect to learn much or have it stick from a shorter videos. I appreciate the world and experience that is put into these videos. The more info the better. The hole punch trick is GENIUS!
1. Thank you for saving me money buying sets that duplicate the medium unnecessarily. 2. Holes! Grouping colors! Who knew! 3. Finally, a method to track my colors AND be able to use them! 4. EH, take the time you need to communicate the subject/topic. There are ways to fast forward a video if one is in a bit of a hurry. I watch most videos from start to finish then save to category appropriate for me and then later zip through if necessary to get to the spots I wish. 5. Thanks for taking so much time and effort to show and instruct. I really love your work.
I've learned so much about colour swatches and matching in this video. I've seen others that use just the hole punched in the middle of a white card, but this is the first time I see it with all the colours already swatched so you can see how things will work together. Thank you for sharing this. I’m going to make some sets of my markers and pencil crayons.
Lindsay I can spend a decade watching your videos. I enjoy each single one. Thank you for helping us be better artists even though I am still a beginner and have little time to do some art You don't know how much your videos help me. So who ever is complaining has a huge problem. They should appreciate that you are giving us a valuable portion of your time. So many thanks.
Ive been meaning to thank you for your tip on coloring rhinestones with alcohol markers. I promised a customer champagne colored rhinestones on a faux cake order and the ones I ordered came more gold than she wanted so I pulled out my ohuhu markers and matched her champagne color. The fake cake turned out great, and she was really happy with her order. I’ve used that tip quite a few times now. Thank you!
Lindsay, you don't have to be sorry!! This video is jam-packed with great info! Plus, the longer the better :) You have spent so much time swatching all those markers, for us as well and I do appreciate it! I really love the swatch card with the holes, it's such a great trick and I need to do that, so I could finally use my markers more. For those who like to complain about the longer videos, well maybe they just don't want to learn. Thank you so much, Lindsay 💖💖💖
Ugh. Why would anyone complain when you are legitimately assisting us beginners out of the goodness of your heart? I am so disappointed by how free other viewers feel to leave nasty comments. 😪 I appreciate every single minute of your tutorials! You are so positive and so kind! I have learned SO MUCH from you. Your voice cheers me up and keeps me company when I’m washing dishes, doing laundry, etc. so, I am sending you a GIGANTIC thank you! ❤ (Also! Daffodils are my very favorite spring flower! Yay!) 🥰
I am new to watercolors and just found you this morning and loved your video on pretty excellent paint set. I love the way you have organized your markers and stamp all the pages and make these swatches. I am only going to use the markers and paints to use in my journals but fully intend in swatch everything once I get some watercolor paper and set up a little better system. Great video.
Great video, not too long at all. We beginners need the detailed information. It's your channel; do what you want. Thank you for showing me how to create art.
First, I love and appreciate ANY video you put out. If time is a factor, I’ll save it for a later time when it isn’t an issue. Second, this is BRILLIANT! I have a similar set of the alcohol markers I purchased months ago and only used once because I didn’t know what the heck I was doing with blending and color choice. My one attempt looked horrid and made me feel like a failure, so I haven’t touched them since. This system is a great “baby step” way to get a better grasp on color choice and blending!!! THANK YOU!
you will get it, there is a steeper learning curve with alcohol markers than other mediums and I think people assume that they would color better if they bought more expensive markers or that they will never get it. Anyone can learn, it just take practice and choosing colors that are in the same family:)
Anyone who says this is too long is nutty!! This was extremely helpful to me as a beginner and I truly appreciate all the effort and time you out into it. Thank you!!
So much info here that is very helpful, thank you! I don’t mind longer videos at all. There is no way to please everyone, I think the majority of people are appreciative of everything you put into your videos.
I must not mind about the time, because I sometimes watch/listen more than once. I'm in my car most of the day doing home health care and I will listen to your videos while driving. Think you are super!
Lyndsay, Nothing has advanced my arts & crafts endeavors as much as the Frugal Crafter videos/tutorials. I could watch them all day long. So too bad for those with little patience & who want great results with a 10 minute instruction. I am happy to take the time it takes! Love you Lindsay! Many thanks for sharing years of hard work & learning with your public!
I like all your videos regardless of the length, I always learn something from every category. Thanks for all that you do. You are appreciated here. Take care and God bless. Sincerely Becky B from Arkansas
I never have problems with the length of your videos. You are one of the artists who fill them with important information that spells things out. The wordy ones that DO annoy me are the ones who include all of their personal off topic information which has nothing to do with their project. They drone on and on with lame personal excuses or apologies which don't matter to the task at hand. I almost feel like I am their counselor and they lack a best friend :) Their ideas are simple and should have been shown in 10 minutes, instead of 25. I am so glad that I view on a desktop, and that little gear icon will allow me to view them 1.5 through 2.0 speed, and I often do!
I don't understand people complaining about long videos. Apparently they don't realize there's a pause button? If I don't have time to watch a long video, I either wait until I have the time or I start to watch, pause it, then come back later. Sometimes I actually save the longer videos for occasions when I'm doing stuff like folding laundry or other tasks that don't require my full attention. I'm sure this 45 min video took hours to film, edit and upload. The way I see it, I'm getting free lessons from experienced crafters. I'm certainly not about to disrespect the RU-vidr or the hours of work that went into producing all that free content. Great info as always, Lindsay, and thanks for sharing.
Thank you for taking the time to make this comprehensive coverage of using our existing supplies, and how to effectively expand our markers without duplicating existing colors. All art takes time, Never so uch as learning how to use a media. Please continue with sharing your expertise, many of us rely on teachers to expand our own abilities. Not having to reinvent the wheel is appreciated.
You are Amazing Lindsay, don't fret over negative comments. They can just move on. I love all your videos no matter how long it short. Thank you for spending so much time to help & guide us in the right direction. Personally I own Copics & Love them but it did take me quite awhile to build up my collection but I do find them to work best for me. All take practice no matter brand. I myself am still intimidated by them 😁. Tfs! ❤😘
Thank you so much for sharing this swatch idea! As someone with quite a variety of different markers (sharpie to copic) I think this will help me immensely with blending. Also grouping the different brand markers together in color groups will help me to remember to use them all.
I know this vid is 2 years old, but I just got my first two sets of ohuhu markers and found this video so incredibly helpful in so many ways. Thank you so much 💓
I tend to pull markers and swatch them next to one another in order to pick what I want....this makes SO much more sense!! I guess that I have been lazy with my markers. I do this with my water colors....why not the markers? Who knows! LOL One more thing for the list. BTW....I have that same stamp. I need to dig it out...it has been a while.
You’re an awesome, bubbly artist/crafter who never needs to apologize for the length of a video or the fact that you spend hours swatching...it’s your passion and your job! Love the long videos, love the practical advice for the non snobs who just want fresh ideas and sometimes permission to just get cheap stuff and play! Thank you for tolerating the crabs to bring joy to the masses!
Oh my goodness...what a great video! There is a little arrow button on everyone's RU-vid that will assist anyone who doesn't want to watch the whole thing. (just in case they didn't know their video didn't freeze on your channel). I SO appreciate all the time you took for us to do this video. You were right there with me while I was alcohol ink coloring! YAY! You're the Best!
You are so brilliant! Nevermind those who think you're videos are too long, every minute is really worth watching! Very informative and useful, thank you for sharing ♥️
I love your longer videos!! Most of us appreciate that you are an expert in your field and appreciate that you share even a small amount of your expertise with us!
I don't mind long videos when I'm learning a technique and it's filled with substance and not just long because of off-topic "filler" or lack of preparation. I appreciate the heads up you give, though, and especially the notes & overview giving some idea of how you've organized the video. That enables me to go to the portion I really want to hear right now. I appreciate your advance work & planning that keeps it from dragging. If it's a topic I want to explore, you're videos are consistently worth my time. Thank you.
Lindsey, first, thank you for the tutorial and the advice, second, please don’t ever apologize for imparting your considerable knowledge, on your own time, _gratis._ (I know this is part of your business but the point is, I didn’t have to pay for lesson.) I hope you don’t feel the need to alter your tutorials because of complaints about the length of them. As you rightly stated, you’re providing information that took you a lot of time and effort to learn. If someone doesn’t have the time to watch a particular tutorial, they have the luxury of pausing it and getting back to it when they have the time. If the problem is their own impatience, that isn’t something they should try to make _your_ problem.
Huh. You know, I've watched dozens of your videos and I've never noticed if they're long or short. I just absorb the information. You pare it down to the essentials already and you impart a ton. So.....and about this one specifically, I think it's incredibly clever to punch a hole in the swatch! Why hasn't anyone thought of that before?!!! Too, everyone speeds up the coloring parts and if, like me, someone is trying to learn, it's difficult to see methods. I appreciate that you did this in real time. You do you and don't worry about the rest.
Excellent video, Mrs W - such useful tips and tricks! I think this video will break “marker block” many of us have because we can’t get the pretty results many folk have so we stopped trying.
Exactly what I was going to comment. Well said!!! I was ready to chunk mine out the door but I'm getting them back out o give em another go. Thanks Lindsay!!!
I don't even work in markers, but I see an upload by you, I watch. Also never worry about the length of your videos. You bring us all this awesome content for FREE! people should be grateful you put so much time and effort in.
This was fantastic info Lindsay! I purchased a small set of Ohuhu markers and love them. Love the card you colored so pretty. Thanks for all the great information!😊👍
Great video Lindsey! I like that you are very through with the information you are giving and if someone doesn't like that then like you said. It's not the video for them, but how else are you going to learn if not by looking at things thoroughly? Thank you, and just keep your videos coming😊💕
I loved every minute, you don't need to apologize for a comprehensive lesson. I am new to alcohol markers, so I learned a lot. Also I already swatched, but not in such an organized way. I love swatches! It is also fun to do. No stress, just filling in blocks and watching what colors develop. Never thought of making the swatch cards on a ring. But I do put embroidery flosses on a ring to match fabric colors, so it makes sense to me.
The swatching board thing (I don’t know why you would call it 😂) I think is going to be the main thing I use I struggle with finding good colors to blend so thank you Lindsay and thank you for taking the time to film this video for extending our knowledge ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Ty very much for all the great instructions. I've been stamping, crafting for decades, but recently got into alcohol markers, distress inks, etc. I have never swatched ny inks or markers, but I see the importance of it now. Usually, I get frustrated with my spectrum noirs bc of highlights, shadows, etc, so I think that doing these swatches will really help. I always have to remind myself that when I first used distress inks, my blending had circle marks from the blending tool, but the more I practiced, those things disappeared & I had smooth blends with months of practice. I, also, do not think your video was all that long, this comment is way too long, lol. If ppl don't want to watch, they don't have to.
Dear Lindsey. You know the 80/20.. I love your very thorough, well planned and well taught video tutorials .... and so generous is sharing ... I’m taking a clay class online and it’s $200 .... and your instruction is just as professional. So keep up the awesome work
i really appreciate the longer videos actually! mostly for the amount and depth of information, like you were saying, but also because i like settling in to watch a video and doodle or whatnot at the same time. longer videos are nice and chill for that.
This video is soo helpful! I was waiting for someone to make a video about the 120 Ohuhu makers set. I just bought my own and I was a little lost. Thank you!
I am glad it helped! I try to get a good photo or scan of my swatch cards for my blog so you can see how I grouped them. I probably will post the article to go with this video on Monday.
Thank you, Lindsay!! Love your colored image, and tutorials, regardless of their length; they are always informative and enjoyable! I do like putting down a light coat of my alcohol markers before coloring with my colored pencils. It cuts down the amount of layering I have to do with my pencils. Yeah I’m lazy!! 😘✨👍🏾
Please ignore people crying about a 'long video'. It takes TIME to master a new skill. The in-depth FREE knowledge is well worth the time spent watching your videos. I've been in plenty of art classes where the instructors barley went into different techniques. Keep doing your thing, it is working.
I love & REALLY appreaciate your long videos, especially the tutorials. I need them. I'm often disappointed when an artist posts a speed paint but labels it a tutorial.
Thank you for taking the time to make these videos and sharing your knowledge. You shouldn't have to apologize for the length of your videos your helping people who are interested in this topic understand and share your thoughts. Im brand new to markers so Im learning as much as possible. Thank you again for your time making these invaluable videos. Have a great day!
Hi Lindsay, I agree with the majority of the commenters in liking your in-depth explanations. I get the notifications via mail and it shows the length of the video. If I don't have the time to watch I mark the mail as "unread" to save it for later. You put a lot of work into your videos and in my opinion it's so rude to complain about the length. No one is forced to watch them, so why do those people believe they're entitled to complain? Especially taking into account that your videos are FOR FREE! Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge and please, don't apologize for taking the time you need to give us valuable information. Love, Tina
Thank you so much Lindsay!!! I think the knowledge you share has a lot of value. I am thankful for your time and efforts. I am learning a lot thanks to you. Have a wonderful weekend!!!
Oh good grief, don't listen to the complainers. Thank you for all you do. I'm wondering how yesterday's snowstorm impacted you? We got 22" at my house. So pretty. My plow guy wants to be done for the season 😜
Thanks for this! I found it super helpful. I have a handful of a variety of alcohol marker brands- and I’ve always struggled to figure out an actually useful swatching method. Really appreciate you and all you do!
Another vote for longer videos. This one is excellent for a relative newcomer to markers, like me. Too many videos on markers are far too brief, too general, or they're almost self-advertisements, not instructional at all. In this video, the way you've grouped and swatched your markers (quite different from the way I've used), those "comparison punch hole cards", and especially the use of colored pencils to supplement a marker "painting" are all very valuable. I learned a **lot**. Thanks.
I LOVE this! The idea of the hole in the swatch is wonderful! I always bend paint swatches to put the colors together because the white border messes up my eyes...having the hole to put the color right against the other colors is great!!! Thank you so much Lindsay! This video was GREAT!!!
I never think your videos are too long. They are very informative. They can always speed up the video or skip around. I really don't understand complaints.
Hi Lindsay, Don't worry for those that don't like long video's, they can just stop watching and do something else!!!, Your video is very informative you learn so much by watching, and the whole in the middle of each colour is such a great idea, you are fantastic, keep up the lovely work that you do for all of us, have a great day, and I will catch the next video, Cheers Anna,
I just started coloring and stamping- thank you so much for this introduction! I did feel that I needed so many more and better quality supplies, but now I realize I can work with what I already have. Thanks!
Lindsay I like long up loads. I watch Dede Willingham, Janet M. Young, and Barb Owen and they are going for an hour and a half up to 3 hours. So you know not everyone feels your uploads are too long, you are well spoken and your voice tones do not grate on my ears, you show enthusiasm for you topic/subject and you give honest opinions. Thank you for sharing and know that the nay sayers are not your only viewers.
You will never know how much you helped me today!!!! I have not used my markers much because what I saw and heard was to use the number system and that just seemed to make it harder as I had to always stop and try to remember how to do it. I love the idea of putting them in a group with rubber bands that will make it so much easier and I will what to use them more!! I love your video's and the longer they are the better for me. Thanks again!!!
Thank you for doing this video. I’ve been trying to decide whether to purchase this set of Ohuhu markers or a few Copic markers. My Ohuhu markers will be delivered on Monday. I’m happy now.
LOVE your video - I learned a lot for someone who has been an artist for a long time. That way to chart your colors and keep them on rings with a hole in the middle is BRILL!! Just for your future information, I'm sure you know, but your alcohol markers will last longer if you store them laying flat - to keep the ink in both ends. If you keep them bundled in a bucket only one side of your two tip marker will get enough ink. You'll think your markers have dried out when they still have ink, they are just all in one end. Again, I love your videos
