Almost 100% rumination, which makes response prevention so hard, because you don’t know which thought is compulsion and which not.

Why do we have to have this? OCD and all its cousins? Is it something thats been around this entire time and people were just better at hiding it? I was better at hiding it when i first felt it, i was 11 and at that time im sure it must of had a name, i just had never heard it, and im sure it runs in families cuz at 4 years old i couldnt understand why my aunt would turn on the light turn it off over and over or why some took electric appliances with them in their car for fear of leaving one on, my lucky OCD is unwanted intrusive thoughts to me, the meaness of all, can u fix me?

I love this, my psychologist calls this the ice bath theory. If you get in an ice bath you first feel pain, but that passes and you get so many benefits from it. So if you put yourself in exposure and feel the anxiety, that will soon decipate and will get easier each time. It's something that really stuck with me and helps me lots of times every day!

i'm not sure if i have ocd or anxiety but i do struggle with these thoughts, so i really appreciate your videos. i've been crippled by sticky thoughts and ruminating for over a month now, causing me to wake up sick to my stomach with anxiety every day and barely eating because of it. after watching a few of your videos i feel like i've really improved over this past week. it's been hard facing my anxieties and allowing them to pass rather than pushing them away or debating with them, but i'm working on it! i'm sure i'll get out of this cycle and i'm equipped to deal with it if it happens again. i hardly ever comment on things but i wanted to say thank you :)

Why do people always talk about sitting with the FEELING of anxiety, but not about the THOUGHT arguments that come in and explain why I'm in danger? I'm ok with feeling anxious and sitting with that, but what's difficult is that I get thoughts that seem logical that explain to me why I have to do or not do things. So why talk about the feeling? My anxiety manifests more as thoughts that are difficult to ignore and dismiss rather than as an uncomfortable feeling. I hope someone reads this and gets what I'm saying.
@3cheeseup

And all of these THOUGHTS wear my mind out. Which leads me to my compulsions....picking my nails, thumbs mostly, over and over as my thoughts run rampant. Until my brain is done getting out that stress...and well, the cycle just continues UNLESS you break it

@3cheeseup They're automatic. They just happen, so I don't see it as a compulsion that I'm actively doing. And they make sense. I don't know. I just don't know why people describe OCD and its accompanying anxiety in a way that I don't relate to.
@3cheeseup
@3cheeseup 2 месяца назад
@@calebscoville2585 OCD in general is a doubting disease. It will question anything and everything until it finds something that makes you so anxious that you do a compulsion. Let me give you an example from my current OCD. I get triggered from for instance being aware of my breathing. My OCD will then start with rumination like for instance: “If you don’t control your breathing actively you will suffocate and die”. Now is this thought true? Technically yes because without oxygen you’d die, but in the other hand I have been living life 99,9% without controlling my breath and I survived. But the problem is that I still get scared so much from it that I get panic because I do somehow believe it otherwise I wouldn’t be scared. And I think this is the same pattern for everyone. If you wouldn’t believe your rumination thoughts I don’t think you would do compulsions. But what thought seems so pressing in one moment can become irrelevant again when I do ERP with it. This is when your OCD jumps to something else that will scare you again. Like for instance: “ERP is not working for you, you are still living a life of fear, maybe you are misdiagnosed”. Then you begin to compulse and search online for alternative diagnosis etc. This is the cycle. Hope this helps.

When OCD thoughts arise and try to induce tension and anxiety in me, if I don't react to those thoughts that my mind demands from me, for example, if my mind tells me to reply back to a certain thought or else something bad will happen, then I have to prepare myself to tell myself that I don't have to do it. And if I give my mind the reply or attention it wants, then I will get stuck in the same cycle again. Instead, when an OCD thought comes, don't do anything about it, just tell yourself that I don't know if this is true or false, but even if it is true, I can't do anything about it, and I leave that thought there. But this doesn't mean that you have to keep checking yourself whether the thought has been removed from your mind or not because then you are giving attention to those certain thoughts that your mind wants and you shouldn't do that. Always remember, everything will be easier and fine in the future. All you have to do is trust yourself, not your mind.

I have OCD for years having to do with doing other people’s dishes, unclean houses and hair, etc. So I had a severe head injury two years ago and had to have a total shoulder replacement. Could anyone please tell me if having conflicting emotions is a form of ocd or not? I'm extremely exhausted and in a painful situation. My emotions are too conflicted. Idk why I think that if I get rich or become successful I will become arrogant and will treat people badly , which I never want to do and want to be but at the same time I don't want to be adored by people or I want to have self respect. Another one that I fight thinking is I feel like I'm dressing to attract boys and to show my body but I don't want that ever but at the same time I want to look pretty and want people to like me (either it's a boy or girl) . I'm so confused, am I bad because I want that? Am I really that person that I don't want to be? Please please do answer.

@rrooster8218
@rrooster8218 Месяц назад
He's talking about the most recommended therapy for OCD which is Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP). You expose yourself to your triggers and then prevent the usual response (like compulsions). So I believe he is saying the more time you can keep from responding and doing compulsions you will change your brain. Just like building muscles with time under tension, if you deal with the discomfort (tension) while not reacting to your triggers you can teach your brain the trigger IS NOT dangerous (like building strength).
