I use vMix call for remote guests and interviews a lot now, it is about time I upgraded to vMix 4K from HD to get the extra callers and multi order, just waiting for the right job to come along :-)
Yeah I think vMix is superb and great value for money. The fact they just let you post the difference to upgrade is typical of their customer-first approach. I've had a great experience with them so far.
Vmix mentioned not to use multicorder for vmix call recording due to the variable frame and audio rates. I always have problem with it. You should use output for iso recording and not multicorder.
Mike if I'm honest it was just an oversight. Since I'm working in HD for the project and for delivery I had 1920 X 1080 as my default and only remembered the max 720p vMix Call will provide afterwards. So yes, the record should be set to 720p. You're going to need to scale up either way if you want that input to fill the frame (or the majority of the frame) if it's a 1920 sequence, but at least the recording will be smaller and should be easier to playback or transcode, if you do that later.
Please note the statement on the vmix website. www.vmix.com/knowledgebase/article.aspx/240/multiple-recording-files-when-using-multicorder-with-vmix-call IMPORTANT NOTE: Recording vMix Call via MultiCorder is not officially supported.
This is an excellent point and I was not aware. Indeed, when I was testing the workflow the day before with a test caller we noticed afterwards that when he turned his phone after connecting it forced a break in the recording file and a new file was started. So that is explained. However it only lost a frame or two I think. We had no such issues during the real interview as I didn't start recording until everything set and the caller didn't drop out. But very good to know there is an alternative even though it involves routing audio and video separately for each guest, which is a bit convoluted.
Yours was very much a point worth making,, Calvin. Thanks for the feedback - I really just love making content and am very interested in production workflows and learning new things.
